LOVE this place. Good food, nice and friendly staff, and great environment. Very touristy, but also very fun place to be when you’re in the port area! Only go here if you looooove dessert! :)

I love this place, their ice cream is some of the best I’ve ever had and and it’s never freezer burnt or anything. However, it’s very pricey so I don’t come here often. But I would definitely recommend trying this place at some point!

This is the mother lode of sweet treats, a real embarrassment of riches. Everywhere you look, you’ll find something more enticing than what you just looked at. Candies, chocolates, ice cream, self-serve fro yo, Italian ices, gelatos, sorbets, popcorn, gift baskets, an incredible smoothie bar, fudge, cotton candy, cakes, macarons, croissants, and muffins. Hell, they even have a tower of fancy dog treats. The store is very large and there are wonders and delights to behold everywhere.

This is a huge candy, dessert, ice cream, pastry shop! They have a great selection and variety of sweets to satisfy any sweet/savory craving you may have. Decently priced and a very attentive staff is there to patiently tend to you as you try to make up your mind as to what to get. Quaint store in port Jeff, will be back if we’re ever in the area.

Really cool place! I really wish they would use paper cups instead of plastic for their ice cream

I remember coming here as a kid and loving the atmosphere. It seems like they’ve changed owners over time and it’s just not the same. They don’t allow you to sample any of the ice creams which I think is unfortunate and could potentially hurt sales, especially since my friend decided to go with a cheaper option that she knew she’d like since they wouldn’t let her try something else. I understand why they’d rather not give out samples, but none of the ice cream labels have a description as to what’s in each ice cream. I decided to go with vanilla-chocolate swirl flavor(I’m sorry I can’t recall the name), but when I asked the girl what was in it, you could tell she seemed unsure and after purchasing some, the description she had given me wasn’t completely accurate. On top of that, they, possibly the owners, were standing by the doors giving you the impression they expected you to steal. I hate to say it, but as a place I once looked forward to visiting when I was out this way, I’ll probably never go to again.

I’ve been coming here for the past 10+ years and for the past year or so the service has been declining. The flavors are amazing of the ice cream and the gelatos but the lack of proper service destroys everything. The people working there are always in a rush and seem annoyed when you ask them a question. I ordered two flavors today and the person at the counter seemed annoyed that I wanted a specific flavor and the container was empty and she had to get the new container. hey customer service is key. And if I am paying for something I want what I want. Anyway. Over all the flavors are good like I said. If they just train their employees better we wouldn’t have this problem.

This place has been in Port Jefferson harbor forever and has gone through expansion and renovations. A good spot for chocolates, cookies, pastries and even a nice selection of fancy dog treats. The ice cream and frozen yogurt can be hit or miss but the Frigate is a Port Jefferson institution that will satisfy any sweet tooth.

If there’s a heaven I hope it is EXACTLY like this place. They have a bakery(which includes dog treats.) Then candy and ice cream and shakes. It’s so overwhelming. They have tables for you to enjoy your dessert which is perfect. My Boyfriend’s dogs loved the treats and we loved the candy. My sister said her macaroons were delicious.

Worst ice cream ever. Purchased a pint of rocky road and coffee caramel crunch. The ice cream was iced and had zero flavor. Worst $ 17 ever spent. I would avoid this place, they are on the corner for everyone to walk by and I would just keep walking.

This is the one stop place for an after dinner sweet treat. They have something for everyone. This is a huge store with everything from chocolates, popcorn, ice cream, gelato, yogurt, walls of candy and taffy, and the list goes on and on. I usually have Ive cream or frozen yogurt when I go, but it is very easy to lose your head when you see all of the sweets. The prices are reasonable, and it is right across the street from the ferry, so you won’t miss your boat. Try it!

Love the feeling of being in an old candy shop! Great choices of ice cream, gelatos. Also, a wide assortment of candies. Still have to try out their macarons.

The ice cream is so good here but it’s all ruined by the service and the price. The person who served us night have been the manager, he acted like we were bothering him when we asked about 1 flavor of ice cream. Besides that, he would not let my daughter taste a flavor. As far as prices go, they weigh the ice cream and the scales have a cone holder on them. We ordered cups but he did not take the cone holders off of the scale. So I paid extra for that. Awesome. Honestly, if I was not with my 3 children, I would have told him to stick the ice cream up his snotty uptight self important ass.

I went there yesterday me and the family looking for some ice cream in a hot day… Store was empty we thought it is just a middle of the week so we got our cones, all different flavors, unfortunately their ice cream was melting before handing it out to us, I even complained and asked why? They said weather is too hot which is not a valid reason we eat ice cream because weather is too hot. Anyways taste was not creamy, the flavors were ok and that is where I have the 2 stars on flab our and variety but what is good ice cream is if it is not creamy and not cold?! I will not eat there again for sure. I took a pic of my receipt to document my purchase but cut off my info.

Talk about a kid in a candy store place! Always I finish my night in Port Jefferson at the frigate, sometimes we even start the night with getting a bag of candy. The candy selection is self serve and weigh and pay. They have so many different types, old, new, chocolate, sugar anything you want! Also have about 8 flavors of frozen yogurt with toppings plus any candy bar or sugar rush you could think of. They do ice-cream but don’t do free samples so how am I supposed to know what flavor I like? Parking, as you know if you have visited Port Jefferson is horrible so be warned but that is not a knock on the frigate or any other place on Main Street. So many kids come here, obviously and a lot of teens who can’t drink on main street head here for late nights.

At some point if you’re spending the day in Port Jeff you’ll wind up here. They sell a wide variety of pastries, ice cream, smoothies, frozen yogurt and a stunning array of candies. Crowded, touristy and pricey. It’s not good to come for ice cream because it’s often freezer burned but the pastries are usually very good. The staff can get a bit snotty too.

I’ve grown up in Port Jeff and I have watched the Frigate evolve over the years. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worst. The current set up is a pretty good one I’d have to say. There are doors on both sides of the building so it’s easy to slip in and out. On the right half of the store is a WALL and a half of just serve yourself candy. They also have self serve frozen yogurt with tons of toppings and serve yourself slurpees. On the left half is gelato and all of the truffles, baked good and even dog treats. The staff is always friendly and willing to help you out and answer questions about anything in the case. They always have at least 10 people working so you never really have to wait which is totally a plus. Nowwww for the stars I docked: First star: Holy cow the prices here are crazy. Absolutely crazy. Over $ 3 for one truffle and the same price for one macaroon? Come on now… muffins around $ 5 and the gift baskets can really run you dry. Second star: This is sort of a combination of a docked star. So I won’t say names but some moons ago I worked for a chocolate ’boutique’ and they happen to serve that same brand here at the Frigate. When we sold our chocolate we sold it by the weight and the pieces would come out to a lot less than what they are selling them here for and they sell them for a price per individual piece. Another thing I’ve noticed is that they are not even fresh!!! The other thing is the dog treats. I find them to also not be as fresh as other places I’ve gotten them. I’ve brought them home to my pups and had to cut them in half with a serrated knife. On a side note, I like to support real local business like Fetch which is right behind the Frigate. Don’t get me wrong I understand Frigate is also local and home grown but they make is much revenue off every other item in there and it takes away business from Fetch.

Shoot me I have gone too heaven. Oh my god all this candy and sweets in one massive place. The store is right on main street in Port jeff. The place is huge and has different counters for everything. They have hand made candies, cookies, ice cream, Godiva chocolate, And tons more. As the expression goes, Like being a kid in a cantcandy store ohh yeah it is a candy store oh well. Got some dark chocolate covered orange peel and it was delicious. not the best I ever had but real good. The staff was extremely friendly and eager to help.

…yet very little happiness in the actual store. The staff was decidedly brusque and unfriendly. No smile, no greeting. Very terse. The food itself was decent. I got cannoli gelato, and I liked it quite a lot. The boyfriend got a mix of pistachio and chocolate hazelnut gelato, and he said it was good. He also got a bag of candy — the candy selection was so so extensive, and there was so much to choose from. The Swedish lobsters were something we both really liked. It was pretty expensive though($ 6 per half pound).
