Quite a few PH locals not only suggested, but highly recommended this place to me. Taco Tuesdays is all the rage in the area. So we tried it out, and we were both highly disappointed. The salsa comes in a ketchup bottle… a ketchup bottle. How does salsa fit through such a small opening, you ask?! Yea I’m not so sure I’d actually consider it salsa, I mean. isn’t salsa supposed to be kinda thick and chunky? I ordered the chicken quesadilla, but it most definitely wasn’t anything I’d brag about. It was extremely dry and flavorless. If it weren’t for the massive amounts of ranch dressing I used, I wouldn’t have even bothered eating it. On another note, I’m not quite sure that the restaurant was all that clean. I didn’t notice anything in particular, so perhaps it’s just a really old building or something… But it’s one of those places you walk into and wonder about. Everyone who worked there was very nice though, which is why I gave it two stars.

We just ordered a few orders from work, not only was the lady who took the phone order extremely rude and unprofessional when we asked for seperate orders, she stated this is very inconvenient but when our runner got there to pay they said their credit card machine has been down for 2 days, which they neglected to tell us on the phone. Their customer service is horrible and their food is bland. Almost any other place in the area is better than this. I’d rather have fake taco bell.

This place was recommend to me a few locals. I asked them for some real mexican. I sorry to say I found them horrible. I received chip an salsa an the salsa was in a squirt bottle. It was pure tomatoes no onions it wasn’t even close to salsa. Then the tacos, the only thing going for, them that are cheap. No flavor dry. Had to choke them down.

We rarely go for taco Tuesdays since they are pretty skimpy, but 50¢ is a good deal. Homemade chips and salsa are good. My husband and I like to split the combination nacho platter, it is so much food! The chicken enchilada is another favorite of mine. They are a dollar off on Saturday.

[Edit: Perhaps this review was read. The tacos now come with flavor! The cheesecake burritos with ice cream are awesome, and huge. So don’t eat too much before enjoying one.] That third star is in part for Taco Tuesday, the wait staff and the bean dip. Want a meal cheap and quick? Come here.

Great food at a low price. I also love the chips and salsa that they give you for free. There are also amazing taco Tuesday deals. Make this your dinner next Tuesday.

I have been driving by for years, but had time to stop this evening. This restaurant is unpretentious, offering a family-friendly atmosphere. It took a few minutes for the wait staff to notice me and offer a menu. My drink order was taken and delivered quickly, along with complimentary corn chips and hot sauce. The chips were noticeably salt-free. I ordered a beef burrito combination meal and it came out pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I didn’t taste anything extraordinary or exciting. It was good food, and probably healthy too. That said, the burrito meat was devoid of Mexican flavoring and spice I have come to enjoy over the years. The refried beans and rice were good, and probably cooked with an eye toward healthy food, as well. I had a solid meal, for a good price, but nothing outstanding. Good food for the price.

This place had the worst food we’ve ever encountered on the road. Their version of Mexican food doesn’t resemble anything you would expect from a real, authentic Mexican restaurant. I can’t really even begin to describe how sad the food was here. Our first tip off came when they gave us the obligatory chips, stale and flavorless, from what must have been one of those giant economy sized bags you buy in bulk. NOSALSA! Only two squirt bottles of something that resembled hot sauce, one which was fairly decent and the other which tasted like catsup. The waitress took our order and said she’d be right back with our food. She wasn’t kidding. I ordered the pork tamale plate, which came with three tamales that resembled Slim Jims and were about as dried out and tough, and came with reheated rice and canned refried beans. My wife ordered the chicken nachos, which came with the same stale chips, dried out shredded chicken and canned cheese sauce. If Unilocal provided a minus star rating, I’d give it a minus 5. Skip it and search for something better.

If you live in Port Huron, the Red Pepper gives true meaning to Taco Tuesday. Boasting 50 cent tacos it is an homage to cheap eats! The dining room is beyond kitchy and straight on in the dive category. My family can eat heartily on Tuesdays for less than $ 5. Sometimes you don’t need 5 star dining… all you want is a cheap taco :-)

I don’t know what the deal is with this place. The only time I could ever think of eating here is when you are wasted late at night. This is not authentic mexican and not even close to americanized mexican. I will give them a good effort since your only option for mexican is taco bell.

I was in town over lunch and decided to give it a try. Red Pepper serves straight-ahead Mexican without getting too fussy or fancy. It’s not muy authentico, but did you expect anything else for small-town Michigan? The menu is fairly big, but really it’s a lot of variations on a theme: tacos, burritos etc, done with beef, chicken or beans. But everything tasted good, and the price was definitely right. Chips arrived at the table with two squeeze bottles of salsa. One had a red top but for the life of me, I couldn’t taste the difference. It’s a tomatoey salsa with some nice jalapeño flavor, but not too much heat. Chips tasted homemade but would have been nicer if they were warm. I opted for the lunch special, which gives you either one bigger item or a pair of smaller items, plus rice and beans. I got an enchillada and tostada. Both were pretty yummy, and for under $ 5 before tax and tip, it seemed like a heck of a deal.

Chips and salsa were brought to the table, but the salsa was served in a squeeze bottle normally used for ketchup. There was no salsa dish, I guess you were expected to squeeze salsa onto each chip individually. I tried that once, but the salsa tasted like it had been sitting in that squeeze bottle for a little too long, so I stopped trying that. I ordered the«Enchilada Combination» for $ 7.59. Service was fast and friendly. The food was below average. I think all of the Mexican places I’ve been to in Denver were better, so I don’t think I’ll be back to Red Pepper.

Oh this place was such a find! Open until 4am on the weekends and dirt cheap, authentic mexican food! Whether it will be drunkenly stumbling here after a night out or taking my mother to lunch, I will definitely be back! Only con is that they didn’t have margaritas(which usually isn’t my deal, but that day it was).

The«original» Red Pepper on 24th Street isn’t fancy at all. But they serve good, tasty Mexican food that’s easy on the wallet. Plus they’re open very late on weekend evenings, so it’s a great place to stop after a night on the town. Recently, the American Grill on Lapeer Rd. burned down. The owner of the Red Pepper invited the cook and waitstaff from the American Grill to use his restaurant in the mornings until their place is rebuilt. The cost: nothing. That’s worth supporting, especially in the economic conditions of 2009.

The only thing that Red Pepper has going for it is the price. And remember that you get what you pay for. For anyone that has ever even seen a picture of real Mexican food, you should avoid this place at all costs. Well unless your only other option is Taco Bell. This is about 1⁄25th of a step up from that. The smell alone was enough to turn my stomach.

Nice and friendly restaurant. Cheap too! The employees are fun and great to talk to. I love the chips and salsa they give you. They also have specials on(Taco) Tuesdays, like 50 cent tacos. If you want some nice Mexican food, either eat in or take out. It is a very great restaurant.
