Great Central Steak & Hoagie

It is better than subway I will give them that. It took 35 minutes for 2 sandwiches that we soggy and slathered with what tasted like Rago from a jar. Not my idea of a Philly cheese steak. It was not quite good but it was okay.

Stopped by for first time on our way back from Goleta. Great find111. Had the steak & cheese, hubby had Pepper Steak & cheese. The onion rings are. Yummy, fries were good too. Food is Hot!!! Let it cool a bit, but, not too much.

There pizza steak sandwich is amazing. Love coming here always a great experience really nice folks that take your order.

I was so excited to try this place, because most of the reviews were so good– and I wanted to try something different! Well it was really below my expectations.
I had ordered the pepper, mushroom, cheese, and steak. But the meat was not tasty at all, and it almost seemed dry. For a Philly cheese steak sandwich, they barley add any of the cheese or meat (you can add extra, but what’s the point if it’s your first time and you don’t know, so now you know) I got the marinara sauce on the side, but ended up still using it for lack of taste in the sandwich itself, but it really didn’t help. The bread was perfect almost too much for lack of actual product, and I also got a half order of fries which is actually a more then decent size for one person. Which were pretty great.
On the plus side the staff was very nice, and I liked feeling like I was in a tucked away hidden place I wish I could call my favorite! Maybe I will try again with some extras, but probably not anytime soon!

We love the cheesesteaks from Great Central — they are delicious. The owner is the nicest man, and the staff is always really friendly. It is not a «dive» place, as someone mentioned — it’s a family owned sandwich shop — with a great breakfast burrito, too!

What’s best about this business is that, although you’ve probably seen multiple locations around town… Each location is franchised. With that being said, because of the great customer service I received today for my first time, I will be a returning customer to this location.
The building is in the corner of Ventura Rd and Pleasant Valley Rd. It can easily be missed because it blends in with the motel next door, but it’s directly across a fancy Taco Bell, so let that be your landmark reminder. The building itself is quite small, again it can be easily missed so drive slow.
I was super excited for a hoagie since the last time I had one was…
I ordered the pepper and mushroom, steak hoagie with all the fixings: mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, steak, cheese and marinara sauce. Next time I will do away with the marinara, because a true Philly cheesesteak sandwich doesn’t need marinara sauce. A good sign, the bread wasn’t hard, it was nice and fluffy with just the right amount of crunch on the sides. The meat could be a little bit more moist (ask them for medium cooked?) and with all the fixings together, the hoagie was pretty darn good. I appreciate how they have a buffet style area with different condiments that you can add. Three different peppers ranging from mild, medium to hot are available for you too add to your hoagies. I put a handful of the spiciest pepper in a bag, and put the juices in my paper bag of fries and mixed that all up. I love the fries because they are the thicker cut and have pretty decent flavor– Definitely go well with a hoagie and drink!
The customer service and quality of food is the reason why I will be a returning customer.

Absolutely the Best Fries Anywhere!!! The Cheese Steak is Bomb as well. Been coming here for 25 years and never had a bad experience.

This spot is definitely a «don’t judge a book by it’s cover» sort of deal here.
The setting itself is rough around the edges; but for me, I kinda like the rustic feel of a sandwich joint with a lot of mileage.
It attracts many people from different walks of life; truckers, the hotel visitors from next door, retired military, Hueneme locals (like myself), cops, etc.
This is like, the definition of your local sandwich joint.
And boy, it does not disappoint.
From the classic cold turkey, to the self-​made-​and-​ground hot meatball hoagie, the food here is exceptional.
Everything here is served on the hoagie buns; including hotdogs and burgers.
(Try a hot dog here; it’s definitely worth it. They have it made and styled the same way as any classic sandwich)
&&The sides. Lawd help me.
The fries are like giant versions of In-​N-​Out fries. (YEAH, I KNOW.)
&&I’m not usually an onion ring kinda girl, but this place, I will make an exception for because they are delicious!
As for drinks, you have your typical soda fountain variety, but they also have a fridge with different drinks in there as well that you can purchase at the front desk.
Also, ask for a cup for peppers.
They have 3 different kinds!
Yellow peppers, pepperoncinis, and sweet peppers for you to enjoy with your hoagie.

Best Subs around! parking sucks, but the food is great.

I’ve been to this place a few times now and i keep going back. The subs taste really good and the guy at the cashier is a good guy. Excellent customer service and a great selection of food makes this place a treat for me.

O M G. Their hoagies are always amazing. My favorite is the Pepper Mushroom Cheese Steak. However all of them are great. Parking is a bit tight but it is definitely worth the tight squeeze. The employees are super nice too always smiling.

Having lived in another city with a steak and hoagie I definitely love this one way more. They provide quick service and the food is amazing. I definitely come here whenever I get a chance.

I’m ashamed to say I’ve lived in the 805 just about my entire life– but didn’t know about this holy grail of a restaurant!
Parking is sparse, but once you get yourself situated it’s all good. I got the pepper cheesesteak with a half order of onion rings and picked up a meatbull sub with french fries for my husband. The portions are huge and so delicious! I will say that form now on I will request they toast up the bread a bit beforehand– but other than that it was great!
The cashier was polite, effective and a really down to earth guy. Will definitely be back again!

It’s sooooooo goood !!! The only flaw was the fries could have been fresher but other than that its delicious :)

I’ve personally been to all 3 Steak & Hoagies and this one is by far the best hands down. Manny (owner) is always on staff helping out with a smile. He’s on top of the quality of the food being served and I have never had a bad experience at his establishment.
5 stars all the way around and my favorite meal is the Chicken and mushroom.

Great place to eat in a dinner atmosphere. I ordered a cheese mushroom pepper steak and it was piping hot off the grill and delicious. My Co worker ordered a pastrami sandwich and said it was good but the meat was sliced too thin to his liking. I recommend this place!

I run by this place 3x a week smells so good and had to try.
Just ordered a Philly cheesesteak Togo and just finished it. I was expecting better maybe I got a bad batch? Or it’s late but it was ok. I was expecting better

Every time I see my bf, I always ask to go here! By far one of my favorite steak and hoagie spots! I ALWAYS get the mushroom and cheese steak with a side of fries and raspberry iced tea.
The meat is very tender and seasoned. I always, always get the pepperchini — adds a bit of flavor in my hoagie. The fries are great! Crispy and not too soggy. The hoagies are really great with the hot sauce too!
Oh and of course the price of the hoagie ranges between $ 7-​$ 11. Can’t go wrong with that price for a hoagie that’ll make you full!

The service is great and fast. The employees are really nice! BUUUT the food has gone down. I ordered a regular cheese steak and I took a huge bite of just BREAD I was like where the hell is my MEAT? It still tastes good the flavor is still there its just not full filling or juicy! Bring back the meat guys don’t be stingy.

Hands down! One of the best Sandwiches I ever had in my entire life! I love there Philly Cheese Steak with Mushrooms and Olives. It’s always juicy and delicious and there French Fries also. Love there Hot Pastrami, Turkey, Ham, Italian, Burger and Hot Dog. They use a Hoffy Dog like Pinks Hot Dogs. I highly recommend this place.
