I absolutely love Port Gamble. It’s a favorite place to go, just to get away. The houses are so quaint and historic, and the fact that there are so few of them just adds to the tiny quiet town vibe. I love to amble along and look out over the water just past the grass park. There are quaint little shops to wander in and out of, and a little museum. It’s a bit out of the way, which is what makes it such a nice getaway with much less crowds than other places. It’s a peaceful little town. Really not much there, so you might want to bring a snack or plan on a tailgate picnic. Or just stay a little bit and move on. Once we visited around Christmastime, and there really was no one there… probably because it was quite cold and just not a fun time to travel and be outside weather-wise. But we walked the empty streets that were decorated with old-fashioned Christmas lights, and there was this holiday music being piped into the town via loud-speaker, very old-school, vintage-style, a bit crackly. We kept laughing because we saw no one – I mean no one. The place seemed totally deserted with this blaring crackly old holiday music playing in the streets like an old-fashioned gramophone… it was a tad creepy because you just wanted to whisper, «Where are all the PEOPLE?» None were to be seen, as if they all had been abducted in some weird science fiction movie. Love, love this little adorable out-of-the-way town!

Cutest little town. It’s only two blocks long, but has fun artist shops, a couple of tasty restaurants, a museum, and a spectacular view. I love that every business is in an old logging town building to keep the ambiance going. If it wasn’t so expensive to rent the church and wedding pavilion, I would get married here. I guess I’ll have to settle with having got engaged here instead. :)

I absolutely LOVETHISTOWN. My folks live just outside of Port Gamble so every time I go to see them I have the best excuse to stop in Port Gamble. And every single time I am overwhelmed with love for this little town. There is not a whole lot here, so if you are looking for chain restaurants and loads of people keep going this is not the town for you!!! However, if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful, fun, cute little city MUSTSTOPHERE. I promise it is worth it. From the small but beautiful chapel, to the adorable doll like houses to the beautiful sunsets on the beach. Plus the quaint but awesome strip of shops on their Main Street. This has to be one of my favorite cities in the world. ALSO — -good to know fact, they have 3 weekend/week rental homes that are close to the water, a bit pricey but SOOOOOO worth it. As its a house you are paying for not a hotel room!!!

All I could think about when I was here was«Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!» This town reminds of the movie, so for me, «as good as it gets» describes it perfectly. Beautiful place to live, beautiful place to visit, beautiful place to get married. Get away from the chaos and breathe in this calm, Winter River, RI vibe town.
