I was pleasantly surprised by this BAM, considering that every other location I have been to anywhere in the country has been in a mall and been pretty dinky and/or cluttered, often erring more toward sidelines/gifts than actual reading material. Not so here!(Though I did find a memoir among the fiction books — it was by a novelist — and had to give that back to the staff, so I hope it got reshelved in its proper home…) There were plenty of fun goodies(including a big section of Star Wars stuff in honor of the recent film), but also lots of reading material, including their own attractive hardbound versions of classics at affordable prices. There’s a HUGE section of periodicals along the back wall, and the magazines have plenty of space so they’re not all overlapping each other(ahem, Barnes and Noble…), so you can actually see what is there. Rather than the usual coffee shop or bakery there is a little frozen yogurt outpost up front, which in a hot climate I guess makes sense(just don’t melt all over your new book!) Overall, an impressive store!

I’ve only ordered books from here online and was very impressed at how large the store is. BAM has it all, books galore of course, but even more, they have all kinds of things I didn’t expect to see. Lots of gift items, vinyl records and old school stereos. If you can’t find something here, then you are clueless! There is even a Yogurt mountain for your froyo desires. This particular BAM is quite spacious and well thought out with rows upon rows of well, millions of books and a whole lot more. The reason I didn’t go 5 star is for as large a store that it is, there weren’t alot of seats and what seats they did have were not comfy cozy. And no coffee shop, just the Yogurt Mountain. There weren’t alot of employees so if you get stuck behind someone with an issue, then you are waiting til resolved. I would revisit this store in a NY minute when in the area. Not sure if all Books a million are set up equally, but this particular store was great for browsing.

I love book stores, and I love stores with a huge variety of books, gifts, notebooks, magazines, yogurt *yes, YOGURT* and friendly employees. I could sit here for hours. Its very clean, well laid out, and welcoming.

I found every single book I was looking for. That never happens! This place is giant and has a great selection of books and different literary genres. I lived in a college town the last few years and could rarely find was I was looking for at Barnes and Noble. I expected to have the same issues with BAM! but that wasn’t the case. The only thing they could use are shopping carts(haha) since I always end up with an armful of books.

I am a huge fan of Books-a-Million, no doubt. I was also a huge fan of the café, though. The removal of the café and it’s replacement with Yogurt Mountain changed the feel for me. I do understand why the change was made and can see just how much more busy the store is while also seeing the increase in younger clientele. I wish they could have kept the previous aesthetic while introducing new product. Oh well, I still love the store overall.

I am not a book reader, but went to purchase a book for my husband. There was an older gray hair gentleman that assisted me. He was excellent and made me laugh, even though I was not having a great day. I ended up signing up for the three magazine free for 2 months deal with him. I am very happy I did. Its not something I usually do, but thanks to him I now enjoy seeing National Geographic every month! If I can ever recall his name I will update this posting. He deserves a raise, not many people can turn my day around as he did. Now I have a reason to go back. Thank you!

As a new resident of Florida, coming from a small town in Michigan, where the NEAREST bookstore,(not even Books-A-Million) is two hour car drive away, I am soooo happy to live so close to a Books-A-Million store. I vacationed here in Englewood once a year until we bought a permanent home here in 2011. While on vacation, I’d make many trips to the store in Venice, and when I was home in Michigan, I ordered quite frequently from the Website. I enjoy my time in the store, the atmosphere is very welcoming and the shelves are ALWAYS neat and orderly. The people who work at this store are HAPPY to assist the customers, and I can’t THINK of anything that needs to be done to improve the look or atmosphere. ENORMOUS selection of books and magazines, highly recommended by me!

This is the only large bookstore in Charlotte County. BAM, as its known, has a large internet presence and a huge selection of books in its large retail store. They have a large selection of discounted books which include all kinds of topics including both fiction and non fiction. A number of local clubs meet at the small coffee shop and there are sales from time to time. They have a discount club which has a fee to join but provides some decent discounts. If you are after a certain title and don’t mind waiting a few days, their internet site sells books at a considerable discount over the in-store price. Add a discount club savings to that and you are looking at substantial savings. They have an ereader also to compete with the Kindle, however I have noticed a steady rise in ebook prices and in some cases the ebook was more expensive than the discounted retail price. Apparently greedy publishers are trying to capitalize on the new trend a bit too much. Nonetheless, if you are interested in browsing through plenty of books without obtrusive salespersons constantly asking you if you need help, BAM is the local choice for you. Please also note that the county has several small, individually owned booksellers who deserve your time as well.
