Super divey, a little unfriendly, but just what we were looking for. I was in town with coworkers for a work retreat and we stopped into this place because it was right across from our hotel. It is cavernously huge, with at least four pool tables, cushions in the window seats, a large bar area, and it was practically empty on a Tuesday night. Service was amazingly slow, considering hardly anyone was there, but they had a decent selection. We played pool and were only mildly harrassed by the locals, some of whom seemed like maybe they were trying to pick a fight, but mostly they were just funny(one guy went on and on about his love of Pauly Shore…). The music was hilariously terrible, and when I plopped down in a window seat, I discovered it was not actually soft — it was just a concrete bench covered in a thin layer of carpet. However, the drinks were strong, the pool was free, and they stayed open until 3am on a weeknight. Later, the hotel staff told us that R Bar is known locally as «Stabby’s» due to its reputation for fights, but we were a big group and didn’t have any problems. I could definitely see how a smaller group or a single person wouldn’t want to come here. Some of the local kids that were hanging around the pool tables were obviously talking about us, and approached us a few times like they were trying to intimidate us. But overall this is just a regular small town dive bar. We had a good enough time.

This is a straight, but very friendly place. I have been there two years in a row and they remembered me. Drinks are good, and always served with a smile.

I was curious to check this place out because of its bad reputation– I’ve heard that it is generally a world-class dive(I often enjoy hanging out at dive bars), but that its often filled with shitheads and troublemakers(there was a stabbing here last fall). Alas, my group did not actually set foot inside because the jerk-offs running the place were charging a cover just to enter! There wasn’t any live music going on as far as we could tell, and that would make this the only place in town to be charging a cover without a band. Retarded. This must be the fabled army felcher joint of the Olympic Peninsula.

The guy who gave this place, a bad review. Is obviously some kind of loser, or army felcher. Or he is just a miserable blackout drunk. He might have the R Bar, confused, with the bar, at the Red Lion. Every time myself, and my Shipmates arrive. We are treated extra special, by ownership, and bar staff. They always seem to run a $ 2, or $ 3 special. The karaōke is a blast. DJ spins great dance music. They have live music, from great, out of town bands, regularly. Maybe, our attitude is good. Maybe, we actually tip the bartenders; for providing great service. None of us; really need to go anywhere else! Thanks R Bar!

This place started as a nicer place than the over-the-top Other Side that existed before, but then became just as socially inept. There is hardly a smile upon arrival or ordering, and their selection is rather limited for the space available. Other customers try to intimidate newcomers, and staff/managers do nothing about it, even when alerted to problems. I’ve never had a great time there, and trust me, I’ve given my fair share of chances. I recommend spending your money at the scummiest place you can find over R Bar, cuz you’ll get better service and patronage.
