Herve Hair Design

Fantastic. Absolutely the best hair dresser I ever had. He is a bit eccentric and quirky and can take a while to get back to you, but if you don’t mind then I highly recommend his services.

Wow. Made an appointment one day for 11am the next day. Showed up and there was no answer at the door and after ten minutes I just left! Never got a phone call either to reschedule or anything.
Waste of time.
Should have just gone to a real salon.

I hate leaving this review but I have left Herve and want people to know what they are potentially signing up for. I saw Herve for a little over a year. Out of four scheduled appointments, three of them were totally messed up.
1^st appointment: I knocked on his door and he turned me away because he was sick. I get it that things come up, but he couldn’t have called me in advance???
2^nd appointment: My only complaint about this appointment was I had to wait at least 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment start time.
3^rd appointment: I had a 4 pm appointment. I finally got into the chair at like 5:15 pm. I warned Herve in advance that I absolutely had to leave his shop by 6:30 because I was meeting people and had a dinner reservation. He finished up with me at 7:45 pm. What really irritated the sh! t out of me, is that while I was waiting he did one of his friends hair. It wasn’t even another paying customer. I left the salon insanely late and had a lot of people pissed at me.
4^th Appointment: I showed up and he didn’t even have me in his calendar, even though we had made the appointment together, in person.
I left and never came back. I’m sorry Herve, I know you’re a hair genius, but please have some respect for your clients time. I always got compliments on my hair, but I think treatment like that is ludicrous. Especially for how much money I was dropping in there. (And BTW, I definitely don’t think he is affordable… an $ 80 haircut is not «affordable» to me!)

I went to see Herve about a week ago for a Keratin treatment. He was really fantastic! And so affordable. He took his time and did a great job.
I’ve had the treatment elsewhere before and, in addition to costing two or three times what Herve charged, the treatment never turned out as well as Herve’s. I was very impressed.
I also went back to have my hair rinsed and he gave me a great deal on a haircut. I told him I wanted Bridget Bardot hair and he totally delivered. I’ve never trusted anyone to just give me a haircut without explaining EXACTLY what I want and how much they are allowed to take off. But after I saw the results from my Keratin treatment, and the hair all the other women were walking out of his salon with, I just let him do his thing.
This guy is a hair genius. I am thrilled with my new hair!
As an extra bonus, he’s got the most wonderful assistant ever, who gave me a back rub while I was waiting for my appointment. She’s incredible!
Go see this guy. Like, right now.

I would give him 10 stars if I could. I needed a Keratin treatment and he was able to work me in for an appointment the very next day.
He actually cares about the health of your hair and works with confidence and skill. I have had the keratin done before and the brazilian blow out done — neither time did my hair come out as beautifully as it did with Herve. It is obvious that he wants you to look good, and he goes out of his way to make sure you are satisfied.
He is friendly and sweet, and I think I found my new hair stylist.

After a few years of hairstylist hopping — I finally found THE stylist. Earlier this year I originally booked an appointment with Herve for the ‘Global Keratin’ treatment (Hair straightner)… Note ladies — this is not the «Brazilian blowout» brand’ … same type of treatment but is a more natural way. Very shortly into the appointment I realized that Herve is a master stylist that certainly has expertise in hair texture and styles /​cuts. I had ‘aged’ frizzy, dry hair w/​coarse grey running through (brillo pad!). After my first Keratin treatment — all I could do was run my fingers through my hair… it was silky and shiny… and remained so for many months.. I returned to Herve after 48 hours for the complimentary wash and blow out. Note that Herve discusses the degree of ‘straightess you want’ …end result — hair with body & movement. With the different texture I realized I needed a cut. Herve discussed different cut options with me. He pushed my hair into different angles to demonstrate how different cuts /​styles would change the shape of my face /​accentuate cheekbones and down play my ‘chubby cheeks’. I have received so many compliments on my hair. Most of all, after the Keratin & cut, my hair is truly low maintenance. If need be, I can leave the house w/​wet hair… it dries beautifully… The results are even better when I do a quick blow dry. Shiny as glass. I returned 4 months later for another treatment. Herve certainly knows how to make us look fabulous!!! Herve is the sole stylist in his studio and is VERY accommodating with appointments —. Herve is down to earth, no snobbiness /​pretentiousness here… I absolutely highly recommend Herve…

After I saw the results of a friends keratin treatment I had to try it. I have curly frizzy hair and have spent many hours blowing dry and flat ironing my hair. NO MORE! I love the shinny soft results of my «new hair», Herve explains each step and really wants to be super sure you are satisfied. I booked appointment # 2 instantly. Thank you Herve you are amazing!

I also want to share my very happy experience with Hervé. I haven’t been at the hairdresser in about 10 years, having had my hair grown and grown and grown… I ultimately could not stand brushing and detangling my long hair every day, and I decided I want to get myself a haircut for my 30^th birthday, which was exactly one year ago. I also decided to not tell my husband and surprise him with short hair. Don’t men love to see their women’s hair being cut from long to short ;-) With Hervé, hell yeah he did LOVE it!
I coincidentally passed Hervé’s studio (the old one in Berkeley), and decided to go inside and check out Hervé and his prices. I immediately felt his professionalism and after a little chat was convinced he would be the right person to entrust my mane to.
What a great decision! He did exactly what I envisioned, made me look a few years younger and gave me the greatest birthday gift with his skills! I got compliments from everyone I saw after that, and the husband loved it too.
I recently went to see him again, and once more, he did a fabulous job. My hair bounces and looks voluminous, very happy.
He is now definitely my one and only hair dresser.

Color Keratin and an amazing Haircut !
I am from Brazil moved to NYC a few years and was just transferred to Oakland to work for Pixar as a graphic designer.
My hair is long curly and colored. The way i look is everything to me so having the best working on my hair is really important. Herve was highly recommended to me by one of his coworker… He worked 20 years on Madison in Manhattan. When i first met Herve on 4^th street i knew at this time i was dealing with a professional. I needed to be directed and talked through the keratin treatment… He was so helpful and patient, he explained every step of the way what i was going to commit to, next we discussed color and haircut which felt like it was an other consultation. all this time made me feel comfortable and safe enough to trust him with my hair.
My experience was very unique. Herve Hair Design studio has a very intimate relaxing atmosphere. I felt like i had my own private hairstylist… what a treat !
I also have to say that with all of the traveling i have done over the years for work Herve hair design was probably one my best experience. As soon as you will consult with Herve you will realize how focus and talented he is.
Also to mention that when i went to pay the bill, it was so modest and affordable for the quality of work that was invested in to my hair.

I love Herve’s creative and expert skills. My hair is very straight and I usually wear a simple bob, a difficult style since it will show any imperfection. Herve always makes me feel and look perfect! He is a true artist and has great respect for his art and his clients.
