Pomona Community Health Center

I appreciate this doctors office. Although you may have to wait awhile to see your doctor, the doctor will always give you plenty of time to explain your conditions and will provide you with educated answers and excellent support. The long wait is because this is office is for low income/​medi-​cal patients. You can’t expect speedy service when most of Pomona is on medi-​cal and visits this office. You can expect overall sincere and excellent service from the front desk/​nurse/​Doctor staff. I see Dr. Helming occasionally and she is awesome.

I agree with Jenny from Pomona, this is the worst place to come for health services! Unfortunately I missed the free flu clinic at my health provider, I wont make that mistake again! I looked up LA County services and they provide the flu shot free. I showed up at 12:15 because it opens at 12:30 I was the third person in line, so I thought it would go fast. at 1:00 they still hadn’t seen the first person! The first person needed about 6 vaccinations I didn’t even want to stick around to see how long that took. Needless to say I would have been there until at least 2 pm. If you have no other choice, or have more time than money this is your place! If you have a job, or health insurance go to your provider or pay the $ 25 bucks for the shot at rite aid! I work for a government agency, so I can sympathize, but man, the employees moved slower than the DMV!

Plus: STD testing at noon for the first ten people. Free services so I really can’t complain. I went in for a TB test but I was actually in a rush to get to work. The woman who was working with me knew this and did her best to get me out of there as soon as possible. She even wrote me a late excuse for being there to give to my employer. They honestly try their best to serve their community. The lady’s name was Olga and she was really empowering when given me advice rather than the usual condescending tone that nurses and doctors tend to have. They even have pamphlets in Vietnamese and Spanish and have nurses who can speak in Vietnamese and Spanish. I even saw flyers in Tagalog which was really nice to see. Generally more accessible than other places.
Delta: The wait can be really long and they close the doors when they get full. So be sure to go there early within their open hours to get the services the same day. Also, they seemed understaffed but I guess that’s just what comes with a public clinic.
I’m generally unaware about community health efforts so I’m really glad to see there’s these services close to my area. :) Glad to see there’s free health services for underresourced communities. I wonder if the surrounding community is aware of these services though.

THIS IS THE ABSOLUTELY WORST PLACE TO GO FOR HEALTH SERVICES!!! DO NOT GO THERE! I went here to do my TB testing for school and this place is absolutely awful! Since I have volunteered at various healthcare settings, I’ve had my TB test done annually. I have consistently come out negative TB results because they look for a bump and not just redness to be considered a positive. I came for the read and the nurse who was there for the read gave me a positive result and kept prodding and pinching at my injection site to insist that there was a bump. Because I seemed doubtful, she took me to the back to talk to a doctor that looks like he sits there and play video games all day to back her up. He barely even looked at my arm and said the nurse was right. So I went through the ordeal of taking Xrays which is absolutely fine, better to be safe then sorry. However, I also went to the minute clinic in CVS to double check and the NP there was appalled that they gave me a positive read. After a week passed by, I went back for my Xray results and they said the reading was normal and I indeed did not have TB but they still tried to tell me to take the antibiotics for TB!!! WTF? This is just crazy. I wouldn’t be as surprised if this place was a regular doctor’s office… then that would just mean that they haven’t done much TB testing. But here, this is a public health clinic, where they are supposed to do hundreds of these tests a month… and they can’t even tell a positive result from a negative one? Please, for the sake of your kidneys and your health, go somewhere else. Pay the few extra bucks to get it read correctly and not face the aggravation.

Pomona’s public health center offers a variety of services including TB testing, an immunization clinic and other health care services for the community. The health center is next to the fire and police stations. Within the same block, you can find the library and city hall.
During my public health rotation here at the city of Pomona, it was a great experience driving out into the communities and doing home visits. The area isn’t as safe but having the police station near by gives you a sense of relief. The employees are very helpful and willing to teach students. Based on the each nurse’s area of service, I had the opportunity to make home visits in both Rowland Heights and Hacienda Heights. Also, the Pomona public health center can refer you to services from the Pomona clinic coalition, which is located in the same building.
