Man, this place is a dump next to a really creepy daycare facility that looks like the place you bring kids to as a punishment for life. But hey, the custard is luscious and so flavorful and rich, it made both of my kids sick! They were lying on the couch, bowls a-ready for the vomit to flow, swearing through their misery that it was some of the best frozen goodness they had ever had in their lives. They’re still raving about it, a week later. The flavors are very mild, I will agree with that critique, but it’s all about the silky, unctuous mouth feel, yo! I wish it weren’t so far away, because I would take frozen custard any day over the most exclusive gelati and ice creams out on the market.

My previous review of Ruby Rose was fantastic, but something has gone wrong this season. The service has misfired on our number of scoops, but worst of all, the flavors have been either non-existent or extremely mild. Last week my husband & I each ordered single scoops of ginger custard. As had occurred before, we were served 2 scoops each & were charged for 2. We should have complained about that, but our real shock was tasting the«ginger» custard. We each said«this is vanilla.» Husband took cones back to the window to tell the girl the problem but she simple told him it is indeed ginger. We were stuck with the«gingerless» custard. I did not eat mine & again several scoops were simply wasted. we have had the same or similar problem with other flavors. The peanut butter had a faint hint of a nut but definitely not a peanut butter flavor. Both our cones went in the trash. The taste of that(or lack of taste) couldn’t even be described. The toffee had only a very mild flavor of toffee. The chocolate which used to be sensational was now just a mild flavor. What has happened to the custard which used to be our favorite place for delicious flavors? Something’s wrong when a customer goes from 5 stars to only 1. Sadly we will not return unless we hear things have improved a lot!

I make my own ice cream to get the very best flavor and texture, so I’m not big on ice cream stands. They rarely measure up. Ruby Rose is a different story. If you want the very best, stop here! They make fresh ice cream every morning and the flavors change often. I’m afraid to ask for their flavor calendar, tho…

I always thought that«frozen custard» was what New Yorkers called soft serve ice cream. Whenever we had some soft serve, my dad would always say, «How’s your frozen custard?» So, the other day we were zipping through Maine when my friends asked if I wanted to have the world’s best frozen custard. I laughed and said, «soft serve is soft serve, give me a break!» We rolled in to Audrey Rose’s and the joke was on me. Frozen Custard ain’t no soft serve, baby! Creamy, a little eggy, smooth and served with a scoop not a spigot, this stuff is awesome. I had a scoop of Vanilla and a scoop of Crème Brûlée, in a small«Eat-it-All» type cone. A day and a half later, on the return trip, we stopped in again and I had some Vanilla and some«Almond Joy.» The Almond Joy was a coconut base custard with flecks of chocolate and small slivers of almond — a wonderful taste treat. I am told that the special flavors change daily, and that a calendar is available. Prices seem reasonable for this kind of quality and deliciousness — a single scoop, a double scoop, and a Banana Split(3 scoops, a banana and three toppings) all came in at $ 9.00. Take that Ben & Jerry! About the only thing that could make this any better would be the introduction of a higher quality cone. I’ve got nothing against a cake cone, but with frozen custard this good and flavors so exotic, the introduction of a — God forgive me — «artisan» waffle cone could put this place in the icy indulgence pantheon.
