This is one of my top go to wineries! Love it!!! There are a couple great areas to sit outside and enjoy some great wine. They also have a section with beautiful art that you need to check out.

I had so much fun here on our anniversary. The lady who assisted us in the tasting room was so lovely. We also met the nicest couple there. They were very generous with our tasting, they had a cute cat on the property, and even a neighborhood dog who wandered over to say hello. This was my second time visiting this vineyard and I will be back for a 3rd in no time at all.

My own opinion but try for yourself. Didn’t like ANY of the wines and learned nothing about them since the hostess wasn’t talking. Too bad, not a bad looking establishment.

Shenandoah Vineyards in Plymouth Ca. I have visited this little winery a couple of times and it never fails to produce quality wines. I was wine tasting with a small party of friends and was eager to let them experience this overachieving little winery. The party was welcomed by Jaclyn and shown right to a spot that had just opened at the wine counter. John was our knowledgeable and witty host. The party expressed a wide appreciation for the wines that were offered. Multiple varietals were being praised, and complimented. The 2011 Vintners Select Zinfandel, 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2010 Select Tempranillo and 2012 Zinfandel Special Reserve were the parties favorites. I would recommend each of these outstanding wines. The Zins are bright, fruity, a little pepper, and a dash of earth. The Tempranillo is arguably one of the best in the area. It is a difficult wine to capture with all of its Spanish influences. A wonderful effort by Shenandoah. Their Cabernet and Barbera are both very tasty wines and are more true representations of what this winery has to offer as far as big wines in flavor and character. The bounty here was a full case of Reserve Zin and a mixed half case of the others mentioned. I would place Shenandoah Vineyards on my short list of must visit places in the Amador county /Plymouth county area. Life is short, drink the good wine first!!! Salute Stephen P.

Came here as part of a limo tour/bachelorette party. The kind hostesses offered great tasting advice and were patient with our giggling. Spacious tasting area & beautiful grounds… but watch out for snakes!

Snakes on premises warning! Her name is Judy! A group of us went up to Amador wine country to celebrate a friend’s 50th birthday. This place was our second out of three stops. There were 7 of us with the oldest in her early mid 30s. As we approached the tasting room there was a woman standing outside. We all thought how nice it was that she was going to greet us. Instead she started pointing at several of us demanding to see IDs. I’ve been going to wineries since 1987 when I moved to CA. I have never been carded. Next year I will reach half a century. Three of us refused to go in, one because she did not have er ID on her, two because I was so taken aback at the way we were received. There really are signs that say«Snakes on Premises». Well it’s true. One of them is called Judy!

It is mechanical here. No presentation, no discussion, no soul. Here’s what we are tasting today… hand me the sheet. Do you want to try? Put up a glass. The wine is poured — it sucks. Show me the fancy label that has a vicous dog cartoon on it. Repeat until customer has had all the open bottles. Vicious Red, Vicious Zin and Vicious Petite Sirah. Total Wine and More sells these for $ 11. Crap in a bottle with any label is still crap.

Love this place. Taste the reserve reds for $ 5 and get to keep the glass. This Vineyard seems to be the last stop every time were in Amador County. We watched the sunset come down over the Vineyards as they were closing, simply beautiful. Organic wines and passionate wine makers. Large property with a fun museum tour. our pourer was EH… we are a younger group so we kinda get the shaft in service every now and then but once we start chatting attitudes change. If you haven’t tried them, do yourself a favor and drop by, you wont be disappointed.

C.A. Bernet continues his steady tour of dissapointment in himself as he tours through the Amador county wine region… Plese read in a ridiculous french accent Mais, I have flabbergasted my self once again with the how do you say, Amador’s county red wines. Yet another occasion where only my pre existing bias and my passive hatred for your United States keeps me from enjoying some surprisingly fantastic wine. Shenandoah Vineyards is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills that reminded me of the French countryside if not for all the silly SUV-tanks the Americans were parking outside of the quaint wine tasting room and gallery. Fortunately for me Shenandoah specializes in Italian varietals grown in America so my old world racism becomes very confused and allows me to taste and actually enjoy the wine. As I was swishing a barbera around in my mouth in a moment of quiet reverie I thought, «maybe these americans can actually make good wine.» Thankfully I was able to promptly dismiss these feelings as the act of spitting brought me back to the real world. If you’re taking your SUV-tank out to go wine tasting please taste the wonderful Italian wines at Shenandoah before you deservedly drive off the road in to a ditch and die, American pig-dogs.

I really, really wanted to like this place. I love the fact that the wines are organic and reasonably priced. Plus I had a 20% coupon that I wanted to use. Unfortunately, the coupon went unused. We didn’t care for any of the wines and the staff was indifferent, at best. I hate when a pourer just pours a wine and says«here’s our Zinfandel» and doesn’t tell me anything about it. I gave them a second star for being organic. Maybe next year…

There are a lot of wineries in the Shenandoah Valley, but most of them are ordinary and very few of them combine unwavering dedication to respecting and protecting the planet with thoughtfully developed grape growing and wine making techniques. One might think treating the earth the grapes are grown upon and the natural resources that make it possible to turn the grapes into beautiful wine would be common sense to a wine maker. But unfortunately, too many of the wineries I’ve visited in the Shenandoah valley resort to the use of synthetic fertilizers and petroleum based pesticides. Many of the wineries offer beautiful grounds and breathtaking scenery, but the truth is that pesticides are applied to the grapevines which eventually damage the soil and make it into the wine that is derived. I spoke with several employees in the tasting room as well as a member of the family that owns the winery. Their commitment to the stewardship of the planet resonated with every word that was spoken about the operation. To know that beautiful wines can be produced while having a minimal impact of the environment is comforting; but to know that beautiful wines can be produced while restoring the environment is something to be commended with a review exceeding the five star threshold allowed by Unilocal. Now on to the wines… Their zins are unique in their profile. The pungently earthy after finish found in zins from the delta and central California wineries is nearly absent. Rather, the after finish is smooth and somewhat fruity. They also offer a Zinovese, which is a combination of zinfandel and san genovese. This is an ideal blend(it’s 50⁄50) because the smoothness of the san genovese grape tames the spicy profile of the zinfandel grape. It’s a good marriage of profiles and I’d highly recommend it. Their dessert wines were excellent as well. Their port did not finish itself with a sugar bomb explosion, which is found in many ports. This was one of the first domestic ports I’ve tasted where it didn’t feel as if I was drinking alcoholic grape flavored candy. Rather, this port was smooth and finished itself very nicely with a subtle hint of citrus. The black muscat was bold and had a very berryesque profile. I’d highly recommend visiting this winery if you’re in the area. It’s one of the few gems in the region! Note: As of 2007, they are not certified organic. However, I see little benefit to having the blessings of an organic certification organization(more like company disguised as a non-profit) when a wine maker’s commitment to the stewardship of the earth rests in their hearts.
