My wife and I very much enjoyed our experience here. The wines are quite good. The tasting room and its surrounding grounds were beautiful. The view was spectacular. We’ll be back on our next visit to this area.

The wine wasn’t that great and this was our fourth stop of the afternoon… aka we were predisposed to like and not sold on it. The tasting fee was more expensive than other places int he area but the facility was nicer so go to hang out and meander around, if anything. It was a rainy day so we especially liked the big meeting/tasting room and the huge veranda to be protected from the rain. PROS: great facility CONS: not great wine…

Jeff the tasting Manager was a great wine host. The view is spectacular and I was impressed with their table red wine. Prices were great and I was able to taste off the tasting menu. This is always a stop I make when I’m out there. I will return!

I love the membership, the staff is very accommodating and nice. The pours could be a lil bit more. We love the summer concerts, although, I wish they’d bring back the picnic baskets, or allow us to bring them for concerts! We like to bring our cheeses and crackers, which then don’t serve on concert series. We always buy lots of wines the concert days so the very least they should allow is for us to bring snacks. While the dinner offerings are nice, I have food allergies which prohibits me from eating most of their offerings. If I’m paying for the concert, and the wines — let me bring in my own snacks!!!

Great winery! A real gem in the collection of wineries in Amador County. Modern open feeling tasting room. Plenty of servers to give you a little info on the wines, plus they promptly keep your pours coming, and ring you up quickly. My favorite was the Round House red which was $ 18 and that waived our $ 10 tasting fee. The best part is the huge open patio out back with multiple tables and loungers. Many couples and groups were outside enjoying picnic baskets, or cheese and salami platters with bottles of wine. The view was spectacular of the rolling hills, valley, and pond. Will return in a heart beat!

We visited them for the first time today. We tasted through their wine and were impressed at the consistent high quality throughout the line up. The tasting room was beautiful and comfortable. Lewis was knowledgeable and affable leading us through the tasting. We didn’t get a chance to visit the caves or amphitheater but will make it a point to do so next time we are by.

Beautiful location. We made reservations in advance. They charged $ 5 each in advance. When we arrived they didn’t have our reservation in record. W felt like we were imposing. Wine was ok, we bought a case but never felt like we were appreciated. May not go back.

This place has some gems of wine and a knowledgeable staff. Of particular interest include their primativo and their graciano. Much better experience than most in the area.

We have visited Helwig winery a few times in the past and always have a great experience. Today was no exception as Jack made our group’s visit one of the best we have ever had. Jack was very personable with everyone in our group, knew the wines extensively, shared the information in an entertaining and understandable manner and answered any questions we had. Our visit was such a blast and the wines all so tasty that we signed up for the wine club! We look forward to receiving our first club and visiting again soon.

LOVELOVE Helwig!!! This winery has grown and continues to grow on me! Their Jack Rabbit Zin is delicious! Their Rosé is also delicious! I love their grounds! Jack is awesome! The tasting room staff are great! Cory is very nice but his worry attitude can come off offensive! I have brought many of my friends to this winery who have joined thanks to Jack and the other amazing staff members! They have concerts during the summers and I love their cave tours!!! Can’t wait until our next visit!

The wine selection did not disappoint, they had a lot of variety and plenty of whites. Helpful when it’s 105 degrees out Staff was extremely helpful and gave suggestions in pairing food wise. Loved the modern barn deco and the views were breathtaking. I will return!

I’m generally not one to write reviews, let alone poor reviews, but this place left such a bad taste in my mouth that I felt the need to spread the word. Long story short: A few days ago my best friend and I stopped by Helwig to pick up her bimonthly wine package, as she is a member of this establishment. We walked up to the counter only to be ignored by EVERY employee that was working at the time. Literally every employee looked at us and went along helping every other patron; even two groups of five or six that walked in AFTER us were helped immediately! They only stopped to help us once my friend told them that she was apart of their wine club and was there to pick up her order. I assume it was because we were the youngest people there at the time and maybe they were under the assumption that we were just going to taste the wine and not actually buy anything? Or maybe, I’m completely wrong and they just need to work on their people skills? Regardless, I will not be back.

A great tasting room though the portfolio of wines was just okay. My favorite ended up being the viognier and this is coming from someone who prefers reds all day, every day. Best of the reds was the barbera IMHO, everything else would just do well as affordable daily drinkers to go with a good meal.

Came here for a free private tasting(perk of being a wine club member) with friends for my birthday recently, and it was outstanding! They made us feel right at home, and the tasting was really informative without being pretentious. We even convinced another couple we’re friends with to sign up for the wine club, too! Their wines are so delicious, reasonably priced, and you can’t beat the view or the quality of customer service here. Love Helwig and expect to be back many, many times!

A-OK. Many wineries to try in the area. We were directed here by someone we knew. Mr Hewlig is originally from Chicago and was the leader at BCBS of Cali –took his penison and started this place! Very nice – all estate wines. Some very good – we missed the Jefferson Starship performing here by one night. Fun if youre around – understand they only do about 9000 cases a year.

We’ve loved this place, then thought… ehhhh… Well, gotta say that they continue to create some excellent wines. We tossed around the idea of cancelling our wine club membership and moving on. After the last few wine club pick ups, we ain’t goin anywhere! Their Jack Rabbit Flat Zin is frekin amazing! They’re Syrah is great. Sooner or later, everyone will recognize the excellence that this winery is producing. It’s in our top two. Oh, the staff? Jack is great. They’re all super friendly. Thanks, guys!

This place makes some seriously good wine and the venue is out of sight! We are big Paso winos so we came here with our skeptic hats on. We arrived to the winery and we’re blown away with how pretty the grounds were. The staff was super friendly, we brought our two kids and they enjoyed the patio quite a bit. We were lucky enough to see the caves and ampithere. Great place for a meeting or wedding. Took home a case, can’t wait to return!

Very very rude vineyard with limited signs of where to go and check in. The employees are completely disrespectful pompous jerks. Not buying or recommending. On to the next one.

I’m part of a large motorcycle group which travels all around Northern California. Recently, we visited the winery with about 30 motorcycles, and at least 40 friends. Yes, we inundated them, but conversely, we were bringing them a ton of business. When we arrived we were not greeted kindly by the staff. Immediately we were confronted by the owner/manager demanding we pay him $ 10/per person. Not for wine tasting, but just to sit & enjoy the view. Throughout our visit of 90 minutes or so, many of our group partook in wine tasting and bought wine too, yet none of the staff thanked us for coming. Their scowl was evident when we assembled tables and chairs on the patio to accommodate the group. We ignored their distain and focused on the beautiful day and friends. We were well-mannered and left the establishment clean. There was another group on the patio who came in to enjoy the view and taste wines, who were nicely catered to by staff and they arrived via limo. Interestingly enough, many of us know the limo service and its owner quite well, he was aware of what happened, and has since tainted his views on Helwig, and may very well take them off his list of recommended wineries. We left, and went to Deavers where we were met with open arms and who took the Time to set up a wonderful outdoor tasting just for us, whereupon many followed up by buying wine by the bottle and case load! Customer service is so vitally important. And should the folks at Helwig read this, I hope they reconsider pre-judging potential customers based on what they drive. Limos or motorcycles…

On one of our many wine tasting adventures in Amador county, we spotted this little beauty up on the hillside. I gave my honey the puppy dog eyes and said, «Just one more please?». He had to give in and we are both glad he did. Helwig Vineyards is home to many fine wines, friendly staff and one of the most beautiful views I have seen in Amador county. Let’s just start by saying the architecture here is gorgeous! Love the building and landscaping. Even the driveway of this place is fantastic. We were greeted immediately upon entering through the large, engraved doors and glasses were already placed on the bar for us. The gentleman taking us through the flight was funny, kind and very knowledgeable. As we tasted, we had wonderful conversations about all kinds of things. He even brought out a bit of chocolate to pair with the last wine we tasted. I loved them all, but we ended up purchasing a bottle of the round-up red. So delicious, I highly recommend it! After the flight, we went around to the back patio to have a snack and a glass of our new purchase. The view is… Breathtaking to say the least. Rolling hills as far as the eye can see. Wonderful deck equipped with comfortable chairs and sturdy tables. Apparently they do a lot of events here, I will definitely be coming back for more!
