This is one of favorite places to eat in Pleasantville. As much as I’d like to try something new every time I go, I’m hooked on the pulled pork sandwich. The pork is evenly coated with BBQ sauce and the bun is toasted well so that it melts the sauce into the meat more. Sauce on the side is given when asked(I always ask). I’m not sure if the BBQ sauce is homemade but it sure tastes that way! The sandwich is served with shoestring fries, which are nicely salted and perfectly crispy. Fries are usually oily and soggy at many places in town, but not here. Additionally, the portion size is always enough for me to have leftovers!

I usually don’t like to say bad things about businesses and I wasn’t even going to say that they messed up my order and forgot to even put it through. I get things like that happen. I was a walk in and waited a little over 30 mins, had to put time in the 15 min meter twice. The price was a little pricy for my small burrito, $ 9 and change is a little much, but that’s not even why I am writing this. When I got home from all that waiting I opened it up to find a small bean burrito after all that they forgot to add the chicken, also the lettuce was brown and there was no flavor or seasoning. The beans tasted like dirt so I just threw it out. I will not be returning.

The worst excuse for a salad that I have ever been served. The lettuce was turning brown. There was only a couple tomatoes and the chicken was so dry.

I have searched all around Pleasantville for awesome lunch salads and have come up empty handed every single time. Pony Express has the BEST kale salad I have ever had for lunch, and I will definitely be back all the time to get it. It’s perfectly sized, quick, and so delish. Such an awesome lunch spot.

Like many of the other reviewers have stated — Pony Express has fallen off. It used to be my favorite place to grab a quick, tasty bite to eat with my daughter, but not anymore. I always ordered«The Bomb» burger, which was delicious. You could tell the ingredients were high quality. Prices were very reasonable. Over the last year or so, we noticed a rapid decline. Every time we went in, something was different. French fries went from crispy and clean, to incredibly greasy. The beef in the burgers didn’t taste as good. Things started disappearing off the menu. I believe Phil McGrath sold his stake in the restaurant to his business partner, who also owns Iron Horse across the street. Apparently this was a mistake, because the changes that have been made(other than aesthetics) are a big disappointment. The staff could also be better. There is 1 girl, who is always very polite, who works the counter sometimes but the rest act as if they could not be bothered. This is also a popular stop for kids, which I don’t have any problem with, except when its a group of 5 – 10 with foul-mouths. I have been in there on more than one occasion for dinner, listening to kids shouting obscenities. Its a family place, usually filled with small children around dinner time. No place for the foul language. Staff doesn’t address the issue and leaves the customers to awkwardly sit there and deal with it, or they have to do something about it themselves. During the summer they have tables set up outside in a courtyard type area, which can be nice, but this is also seems to be a popular spot for kids to sit and smoke. The downturn really is a shame because it used to be a great place to eat.(If you are looking for an alternative, try License 2 Grill on Commerce St. in Thornwood. Its only about 5 minutes away, the food is great and the owner is super sweet.)

Not the best food, but it is ok. The quality of the food used to be better. The children’s chicken nuggets are so small it is hard to understand how they are even called nuggets. The quesadillas and veggie burgers are better choices. I appreciate the natural ingredients but for the price one would expect better sized portions and better quality food.

Food was okay, but WAY overpriced. Could have made most of it easily for about the third of a the price and a simple trip to shoprite. Delivery, on the other hand, was AWFUL. We were told ~20 minutes and waited almost an HOURAND A HALF! Called multiple times for an explanation but we weren’t given any. When the guy finally picked up, he said it would be here soon(45 minutes later, still not here). We offered to go pick it up ourselves at this point, but he assured us it was on its way. Clearly, it was not. I’m not sure where it was lost in translation the first time we called that we only wanted to do delivery if it could be here in under half an hour(as we were leaving for the airport). I was insulted by their lack of respect for our time and money and will not be returning here any time soon.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen… After Phil McGrath sold the Pony Express, I optimistically hoped that the new owner would maintain the reputation that had been built. Instead, the place has been on a steep decline. I should have known when they replaced the charming, quirky chalkboard menu with a slick backlit one. Also gone: grass fed beef for the burgers, custom burgers like the Charro and the Bomb, Niman Ranch hot dogs, fresh hand cut fries, the home baked rolls from Port Chester, Boylan sodas, cleanliness, and most sadly, service. I was in the restaurant business for years and it’s like the new owner is doing everything in his power to make this place fail. In effort to squeeze every penny out of the place he removed the very things that made it special. He’s doing it at the Iron Horse across the street as well. The man needs a new vocation.

Great food and great atmosphere. I always get the Chicken Saddle Bags with fries. I love that they don’t use any oil that has trans fats to cook anything with and that the chicken they use has no antibiotics or hormones. One of my regular go to places.

I just ordered from here today and have to say that this was literally the worst burger and fries that I have ever eaten in my life. It was beyond gross, I’m not sure what they put in the burger but it tasted like chemicals and old meat. The fries were a soggy mess. Disgusting. I threw it out. DONOT recommend.

Horrible, unhealthy greasy crap food. Went in for a snack and my burger was oily, watery and fell apart in my hands. Fries were heavier than McDonalds. Felt like a vaseline coated brick in my stomach. I would in fact eat McDonalds. This place calls itself«naturally good fast food» but is more or less on par with ghetto fast food like Kennedy Fried Chicken and Planet Wings. Also not air conditioned. What type of restaurant doesn’t have AC when its 32 degrees celsius(91 fahrenheit) outside! This has the potential to be great, like a five guys style burger place but instead is crap. I have no idea why so many people love it. Go to the Black Cow next door and get a tea and save yourself the heart attack.

Meh… not impressed at all. I like that the food is organic and«healthy» but they really have to work on how it tastes. The first time I went I ordered a burger and asked for it to be cooked medium rare. Well, apparently the person that cooked it must have heard burnt to a dry crisp because that’s how I received it. Figured I’d give em another shot just to be fair so, the second time I went I ordered a lamb burger but couldnt finish it because it was full of grease and oddly very very spicy. Probably won’t be eating there again and I don’t reccomend it unless they have a serious talk with their cook/s.

Used to be a guilty pleasure, but now it’s just guilt. I’ve been a loyal customer for years, but I can no longer recommend their food to anyone except perhaps my worst enemies. Gone are the days of perfectly crisp shoestring french fries with a side of pony sauce. the new french fries are thick cut and soggy. Even the pony sauce is subtly different. They just renovated and it seems like they paid for the new furniture by cutting back on the quality of their product. If this were just any dive, I probably would have eaten my food without complaint, but knowing what I was missing out on made eating my meal the most disappointing part of my week. Spare yourself the grief: stay away until they’ve brought back the old food.

Service was good, food was good. Dessert was a train wreck. Place has a lot of potential, they just need to tweak the menu a little. Also a little expensive but a nice place to eat I would say. Get dessert somewhere else.

We have been patrons from day one but, sadly not anymore. 1. Lobster Roll– used to be really good now a wet mess with almost no lobster or crab. 2. Shrimp roll– Lots of lettuce and sauce barely any Shrimp. 3. Burger — Did they change meat, not as tasty. THEFRIESCHANGEDANDTHEYAREOILYANDTERRIBLE. To be clear it used to be great, a bit overpriced, but excellent. How did they screw this up? It worked, people loved it and now I need a new quick and tasty place to go. The staff did not answer the phone when I called and I was worried they went out of biz. When I got there they just were not friendly and just joking with each other. I did see some of the same people cooking not sure what happened. Sad to see this go so far downhill.

New owner– had the worst lobster roll, which was always my «go to» treat, as it was mixed with crab and no fillers– and reasonably priced .Now no crab, almost no lobster(2 small pieces) and the rest was a ton of celery and chopped up tomato! And lettuce. Only thing the same was their hot dog roll, which was always not very good. And the price was raised! There are several great places to get great lobster rolls — but this is definitely not one of them. Will miss it!

What a disappointment. This place used to be great, I have been a customer for years. They have changed their hamburgers, the buns and the fries, all are now subpar. I know it was taken over by the fellow who owns the Iron Horse across the street. Does he think trying to save money with inferior food is the way to go. I know I will not be returning.

Let me start by saying that I used to enjoy this spot. Burgers are good. They have spruced up the menu a bit. However, the service is poor at best. Often spend LONG amounts of time waiting for food that is simple to throw together. Busy or not, it seems that the last ten times I have visited my order has been wrong. And if it is missing extras that I have paid for, it becomes frustrating. Add to that the wait and the staff’s seeming indifference and lack of energy and it becomes a dismal experience. Sadly this place was great even about a year ago. I do not know what has gone wrong but for a place that has overpriced but decent food, there are way too many glaring issues to continue to visit. I urge others to reconsider. Hopefully business will show that this place is fallen. I keep coming back but after three TERRIBLE experiences I am done trying.

Decent burger and fries. Nothing to write home about. Completely inappropriate employees yelling«69» loudly and obnoxiously to a group of teenagers. While I’m not bothered by that kind of stuff, I could tell lots of people were bothered. No reason to return.
