Best breakfast in South Jersey. Try the Messl, a signature breakfast sandwich made with egg, choice of meat, cheese, and their delicious home fried potatoes all on a fresh Kaiser roll. Pancakes are also delicious, light, and fluffy.

Omg! A secret little treasure that everyone prolly drives by everyday and don’t even notice. Their French toast is the best, love it here, never disappoints.

A true Atlantic city treasure. Simple breakfast and lunch done right at a fair price. Unfortunately they do not have my favorite corned beef hash(wife was happy though as she insists it smells and looks like dog food) there is plenty on the small menu. Like a well worn pair of jeans Essl’s isn’t much to look at and many may be put off by the shabbiness, to me the place just felt right and was very comfortable. Like Lucile’s in Warren Grove this is one of the small south jersey places that is ever more precious as they become more scarce. Do yourself a favor and stop by.

Essl’s and the Messl are part of the Atlantic City experience. Even if it’s a ride to get there. I’ve been going for a decade now and there’s no better hangover cure than a hearty Messl. Prices are fair and they don’t skimp on anything. And who doesn’t want to eat in a place that could pass for a 10 year old boy’s clubhouse!?!

Nice little breakfast joint. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The walls are adorned with memorabilia from the golden-age of baseball, featuring local athletes. Coffee is served in varying mugs you may find in your own cabinets. Their signature breakfast item is The Messl. It is fried eggs, cheese, hash browns, and your choice of meat served on a kaiser roll. It’s a tasty sandwich. I take my potatoes very seriously and i find their hash browns to be a bit bland. They serve lunch but I’ve never had it. Overall, Essl’s Dugout is a great place to grab breakfast. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
