The Makeup Institute

I haven’t been able to get a hold of anyone and their information is all over the place. Horrible to work with. No respect or valuing their customers just out to take people’s money. Now their website is conveniently «down» and I’m pretty sure I’m screwed out of my money. The only positive reviews on here are probably from two of the school’s EMPLOYEES

Having been an instructor at the Makeup Institute for over 3 years, I absolutely love working under Michelle. She goes above and beyond to make sure the students are provided the best information and curriculum. And I look forward to more years to come with this school

…Almost a year later and still cannot get a hold of anyone. Soo disappointing that a makeup school I have previously attended (and really enjoyed) just stole my hard earned money ($ 295).

Taking the JumpStart Makeup Certification classes right now — I really like that they are held in Pleasanton & that they offer payment plans which makes it easy to pay. A ton of new classes added this year.

This institute is completely unprofessional! From start to finish; the owner Michelle is completely biased, caddy, and lacks overall tact. The makeup they provide is nothing more than flea market quality. The school emphasizes the need to know ingredients of products so as not to harm a client, yet NONE of their products are labeled. We did have an instructor that saved the week from being a complete disaster, Portia Spencer. She was kind, understanding and listened to our dissatisfaction. The photographer on our shoot was also a God-​send, taking awesome shots. I can only hope that I actually recieve them from the institute along with a certificate. The way the week went I am far from optimistic.

I signed up for the Unlimited Student program at the Make-​Up Institute and found the organization and management to be entirely unprofessional. While the hired teachers themselves were overall pretty good, once the management has your payment for classes, you may as well not exist.
Classes are infrequent and difficult to sign up for, the staff rarely to never responds to your inquiries and nearly 8 months in, I could have learned what I have here by watching a few you tube tutorials.
Don’t waste your money here.

I enrolled in the unlimited program in this school, and highly regret it! It was definetley not worth the amount of money I paid for! I could of gone to LA, and taken classes with better schools for what I paid for. At the begining I learned great things from 2 great instructors, but everything went down hill after that. They promised classes in San Jose, and those never happened untill the last month I was enrolled. Once I was enrolled they sometimes would not answer my emails or get back to me. I felt I was a niusence to them, and they made it clear in thier email language back to me.
The photo shoots they offer are not worth it at all! It’s just a boring white back drop and pictures are not that great in quality. They would also tell me photoshoots were booked, when in reality they were not, and now unlimited students can not enroll in photo shoots. It would take 2 – 3 months to recieve photos, and when you did finally get them they were very dissapointing.
They also cancelled classes on me last minute (the day before) twice, and since I was unlimited there was not compensation. I would simply have to take the hit, and loose money since I had taken time off of work to go. Then when I tried to notify them that I would not be able to assist class 1 MONTH IN ADVANCE, they informed me that I would have to pay $ 100 fee for not attending, and that I would not be able to attend another class untill that was paid. I found that to be very unfair.
I could go on, and on. I was not the only student with a bad experience. Hopefully others will take the time to infrom people, because they are charging way too much for such awful service, and quality of instruction.
