Kumon Math and Reading Center of Pleasanton

I’ve come to expect that public schools can only do so much, especially with a 35:1 student to teacher ratio. However with this particular center which we PAY directly for, the outcome is almost the same. Lack of attention to students and parents (who are waiting patiently in the waiting «agony» room.) Case in point: Overall wait time from scan in to scan out is roughly 1.5 hrs. This is for ONE student (pre-​5^th grader) whom finished their test in under 35 mins yet still have to wait for another 30 mins for corrections! Absurd and unacceptable.

This is not the first time this has happened. I get it, sometimes parents don’t follow their «scheduled» time but c’mon, I see two floaters doing absolutely nothing behind the desk besides giving you vexing looks. It’s called teamwork people, get it together. Not sure if they strictly hire family members or high school kids, but something has to improve.
PRO TIP: Have a monitor on the wall for all to see where it outputs: Current wait time for corrections = 10mins or 15mins or 30mins, or 60min, etc… This will give parents some freaking clue on how to appropriately allocate their time besides skulking about nearby. Maybe, just maybe by doing this, there will be less parents taking up space in the GREEN (less than 30mins) parking zone.
Overall, we’ve found this extra effort of time and money has help minimally with our kid’s education. For the shy kids who do NOT ask for help, they need a little nudge and TLC.

The staff is awesome. They really cater to the children’s needs.
I have four children, and I enrolled them into this Kumon a few years ago. One of my children has been accepted to Harvard. The other three are currently attending UCs. Thanks Kumon! You guys are awesome.

New Management here — here is my story. I send both my kids here for the last 3 years. They include lots of repetitions say 3 times for math and english.
I sent my kids to Kumon for 9 years in MI and NY and did not get into a situation like this and this is unique to Kumon Pleasanton in California.
We asked them to test more often and reduce the repetitions at least 3 times and once they put it in the system (computer) and now on sticky notes to their review book.
Nothing seems to bother this Kumon center due to the high influx of Asian students here, many Bay Area companies work with you for their Unilocal ratings and this one seems to not get the message at all.
Since they own the center in Dublin as well not much choice here. Hope somebody from Kumon looks into this.
What is consistent for the last 3 years is higher prices and sub-​par performance.
Will update my review if things get better or I hear back from the center or corporate.

My daughter started 1^st grade way lagging behind! We tried to work with her, but she was confused and I knew I needed trained help! Someone suggested Kumon. So, I made an appointment for an orientation. My daughter and I went there, while I learned about the Kumon system, my daughter got tested in language as well as math! We signed up for 6 months…
Your child will have homework every single day! Even on their birthday, even on Christmas! The homework is timed and corrected! The goal is 2 minutes for each page, with 100% results. Your child will repeat homeworks many times, before it is time to test them for advancement. Your child will mind! Your child will hate Kumon! Your child will throw tantrums! BUT then your child will start to notice how they are improving in school and to your surprise the child will know where this improvement came from; KUMON!
In 8 months, my daughter has gone from below Kindergarten level (being at 1^st grade) to advanced 2^nd grader (she meanwhile moved to 2^nd grade). Yes, advanced! And she is expected to be at 3^rd grade level in 2 – 3 months! You don’t believe me? Go on any given Tuesday, Friday or Saturday and ask the parents, they will confirm! Their kids have improved drastically!
The thing about Kumon is that they do not follow school curriculum! They seriously don’t care about it! They teach your child the right way. One step mastery at a time. when the child masters one skill, they move the child to the next level! I recommend it to children who are not even behind! Why not give your child an edge? I know I am going to start my second child on this program as soon as he is the right age!
