I called early in the week to make an appointment for the following Saturday, specified that I would be coming in to have my makeup done, full face, and I would be selecting my wedding makeup. I specified all this because I understand the time involved, possible extra expense on my hand, etc. Arrived at my appointment time, and the woman working the counter told me that she was working the counter alone and wold be with me after she rang up other customers. No prob. When she returns, she tells me that she won’t be able to give me much attention and can’t do my full face as planned, because she is the only one working.(Thanks for letting me know this when they scheduled my appointment!) So instead of having my makeup done, I ask her how she would do my eyes differnetly? She says that I did it perfectly. I ask her if she was going to do it, how would she have done it, to give me an idea of what I can try out on my own? She says I did it just fine and she doesn’t have any suggestions.(Gee, thanks for nothing.) She does, however, take the time to help me with a foundation. I told her that I needed a foundation that would stay on in high heat/humidity. She selected a long-wear item and put it on half my face, and I HATED it. I told her so, and she said, «But it’s our most popular foundation!» I told her it didn’t matter what was most popular, but what looked good on me and worked with my skin. She again told me it was the most popular item and said how much they sell of it. Again, doesn’t matter to me. I told her that this product emphasized my pores, made tiny lines on my face stand out like a magnifying glass, and that I hated it. She pulls out another product, removes the makeup and switches it to the second product. I hate this one even more. She is protesting how popular the first item is. Meanwhile, a woman from another counter had been observing us on casual strolls past. She approaches us and tells us that she has the same kind of skin as I, and recommends a different product. She fetches it, returns, and applies her selection while the Estee Lauder woman is ringing up someone else. The products she selected was a Smashbox green tint to diffuse the red tones in my face when I get hot /bashful, and a Clarins foundation. They look GREAT and I feel BEAUTIFUL and the Estee Lauder woman comes up and says, «Well OURS is long wear!» The other lady says, «So is this.» And this begins a back-and-forth banter that was quite amusing, at one point I was biting my tongue and turning my face trying not to laugh. The Estee Lauder woman was trying to convince us that her product, which I hated, was better, in a whiney protest approach, and the other woman replied calmly, coolly, to every protest the EL woman made. She finished my foundation(both sides of my face), handed me the mirror again, and I said, «WRAPITUP!» It turns out that she is from the Smashbox counter, and sold me one item from Smashbox and one item from the Clarins counter, because she felt it would be best for the customer. Imagine that!
