I was in and out faster than I thought I would be, considering the line. The guy who was working was friendly and greeted everyone with a smile.

The Walnut Creek Waste Management Recycling Center has closed in September and I have been driving my recyclables around in my trunk for several days. It’s sad that Nexcycle doesn’t accept bottles, but I still give this place a 5 Star rating. I just drove by and saw the place was open despite the rain. The young man assisting me politely told me to go back in my car to not get wet. He took care of everything. He went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable in this miserable weather. This is true customer service. I will be definitely back, even so they don’t take bottles.

This is where my wife and I return our bottles and cans for the CRV deposit. The California Redemption Value is currently 5 cents for containers under 24 oz, and ten cents for larger ones. That means a 12-pack of soda returns $ 0.60. It can add up really quickly! Once our recycling is ready to be returned, we brave the often long lines at this center. You separate plastic, aluminum, and glass into garbage bins they provide. The young man always working is very helpful and does his best to keep the line moving. He quickly weighs out your items and prints you a receipt, which you can validate for cash inside Safeway(his stand is in the Safeway parking lot). The last time I was here a man became irate after learning the station was not accepting glass because their own giant bin was full. The police ended up being called. It wasn’t fun to reload the glass into my car and think about having to come back again, so I could almost understand the crazy man’s frustration. We usually leave with around $ 10. Sure, that’s not a lot of money, and perhaps isn’t worth the time and effort for some, but it’s a deposit that we’ve already paid, and it’s nice to get that money back.

now part of rePLANET which is much better than the former management. this is a very small operation so there are many times when they cannot accept glass bottles due to their limited storage. there is sometimes an annoying wait if you go late in the day.(especially during summer months) the half hour lunch break moves around daily depending on how busy they get. if you have a lot of cans, there is often a coupon in the Penny Saver which will get you $ 2 a pound instead of their regular rate(which is around $ 1.60 i think) they give you a receipt which you take to Safeway next door for credit or cash.
