Came here for dinner one night and wasn’t that impressed. The food we ordered was okay and the drinks were pretty expensive. I’m an adventurous eater so I wanted to try the frog legs. My friend had them before at another location and agreed we should order them. They were soo gross. The texture was so chewy and they were not good. My friend said the last time he tried them they weren’t as chewy and they must have cooked them wrong. So much for that. The service was okay. We had to wait awhile before we could put in our drink order. The place is really cute inside but you have to go outside to use the bathroom which is pretty gross. Overall disappointed with this place.

Ate breakfast here on Easter. The eggs Benedict were good. The bathroom is a single unisex and located next to the tables outside which kind of ruined the experience for us.

This place is very cute and small. Located right on the corner of the street it can easily be missed. I drove past it at first and wondered why I was heading into a residential area. The parking is horrendous… very small lot right next to the restaurant and also street parking. The restaurant itself is very nice looking… well kept and quaint. I was waiting for my party to arrive and went in to ask if anyone else was there yet. The server and hostess at the front weren’t the most welcoming or polite /: I simply had asked if anyone else was there and the gentleman stated, «You can’t go back there yet, it’s reserved at 3». Mind you, it was 02:45. I wouldn’t have minded that answer if he didn’t come off so abrasively. I had a few things that I had brought to lunch with me and asked if I could place it in the back or at least just sit back there to wait. I don’t know if there was mis-communication at some point but he just kind of started blankly at me and then pointed to the outside patio. It was cold that day so I ended up going back to my car to wait instead. My group finally arrived and we were sat in the back. The service after that wasn’t bad. The food was alright… I had the salmon salad but it was nothing to rave about. I think the best thing about the restaurant is the atmosphere. I was looking through pictures on Unilocal and it seems as though maybe breakfast would’ve been better here. I’m always up to give food a second chance… I recognize that sometimes you just end up ordering the wrong dish which is what I think I ended up doing. However, I don’t think I’ll be back only because of my first impression with the waiter/hostess. They were just very off-putting and left a sour taste in my mouth.

Extremely boss eggs benny and stuffed french toast. They also have a wonderful quiet ambience and a view of bugattis driving along vista del mar.

Im a big fan of Egg Benedicts so, when I crave them I come here n they dont dissapoint. I love the décor n the big windows along one side of the walls. Its small n quaint. The only negative thing could be the service, there have been times were they are quite slow n thats why I cant give it 4 stars. But if u are a fan of Eggs Benedicts you have to try it atleast once.

My wife and I had the pleasure of dining here for the first time last Saturday night. The menu is filled with classic French cuisine with a few interesting twists added in. Each dish was delicious. We split a salad and an order of escargot to start, then had the boeuf bourguignon and coq au vin for our entrees. The wine selection was modest but adequate, and definitely not overpriced. In fact the entire meal was reasonably priced. If you’re looking for classic French food without the attitude, this is the place to go!

This place has been in it’s location for years, so I thought it must be good to be able to maintain the high profile location a block from the ocean. Overall review, all was ok. Details as follows: Parking is a SMALL lot located behind the building. When we arrived around 1pm on Sunday, the lot was full, as was the uphill sidewalk adjacent. We drove slightly further up the street and parked on the street just short of blocking a driveway in this residential area. Not bad in arrival, but when we left, someone decided to actually block that driveway, boxing my car into it’s spot, on the already narrow street! Once we walked down the hill and into the restaurant, the surroundings were simple — dark woods and some simple art pieces. They have a specials board, but do not do anything to highlight the specials for the day. The brunch menu is simple and has a nice selection of breakfast and lunch items. My brother decided on the Steak and Eggs Benedict, while I selected the Scrambled Leo(Eggs scrambled with lox) and the Goat Cheese Salad. We both ordered Diet Coke, only to realize this $ 2.50 offering is served in the can — next time water or ice tea, as that is THEMOSTEXPENSIVE can of soda I’ve ever purchased! My brother enjoyed his breakfast but felt the quality of the steak was along the lines of a Denny’s. I enjoyed the breakfast scramble, though serving the bagel and cream cheese on a separate plate would have prevented the soggy delivery. The salad was very tasty, the best part being the croutons topped with goat cheese and drizzled with lavender honey. The mixed greens seemed a little wilted, but since it was served with the dressing applied, I could not tell if the greens started out sub-par or softened before arrival at our table. Let’s talk about that for a moment — dish arrival and service. There seemed to be 2 waiters on board today for brunch service. The location not being too large, most of the filled tables were parties of 2. If I had to guess, the whole place had 30 – 40 people — unless there was another waiter for the patio, that is way too many people for 2 waiters. When we arrived, we were asked to wait a moment before being seated — no problem. Once we were seated, as previously mentioned, there was no mention of specials, or inclusion of a specials menu. The black board listing the specials was not even pointed out. We placed our order and waited. Yet the people seated next to us, after we were seated, who also ordered after we did, were served before we were — and as we listed to conversations near by, turns out they were served before the people seated behind us, who had been seated prior to our arrival. Overall, the service provided the basics — and no more. I could easily give more stars if there was more excitement about this restaurant, but with the parking, service, and cost factored together, my expectation was far higher for what I was paying for the meal. «Brunch» — $ 44.95 plus $ 7.00 tip… That’s a lot for a little!

My husband and I ordered the goat cheese salad, lentil soup and the poulet grenobloise– grand total of $ 32 for dinner. They serve a delicious garlic spread and bread before the meal — great taste and flavorful but not overpowering. The server split our plates without an extra fee which was a nice gesture. Overall, the lentil soup was flavorful and as good as lentil soup can be. The salad was fresh and simple but jazzed up with a creamy goat cheese drizzled with a lavender honey. The chicken was cooked just right — which I find hard to achieve. The chicken was served with creamy mashed potatoes, fresh grilled veggies and a lemon caper sauce. The sauce was delicious — not too overpowering as lemon and capers can be. The sauce was flavorful without being too powerful. The server has been the same man for the last year and a half we have been going and he is a nice man who is very attentive. We no longer live in LA and make it a point to stop here for dinner whenever we pass through LA — we highly recommend this little French café — romantic, delicious and always reasonably priced!

I have been going to French restaurants for years. You can somewhat depend on what will be on any French menu. This place, however, changed things up. There were a few standard French item but to me Brie quesadilla isn’t French. The menu of salads were pathetic. The there was a pasta menu!!! The food tasted fine but we were somewhat disappointed with the options. The service was really strange. The restaurant is owned by an Asian couple. Think they should have opened a place of their ethnicity. Our waiter doesn’t speak English which made ordering very difficult for everyone. He brought our table’s appetizer at the same time as our meals. I have no intentions of going back. It wasn’t bad, just not what I’m looking for in a French restaurant and I can find it in many other place here in LA.

The new owners have done a great job. Bringing this restaurant up to a wonderful caliber! The food is good and they have some nice wines to pare with dinner.

One of my friends who lives in the area had been wanting to try out this place for a while, so 3 of us went there for a late breakfast. I had the filet and jalapeño omelet, my friends each had a different kind of benedict. My omelet was pretty good, the filet was actually cooked very nicely(tender, not chewy!) but it was just a little on the bland side. My friends seemed to like their benedicts and the breakfast breads were good but a little bland as well. So 3 stars for decent food, but I’ll give them 4 because the service was really good. They didn’t come by too often or not enough, it was just right. My coffee was always warmed, and the staff was very polite and friendly. This is a great casual place for a quiet meal with friends.

Why do people go to a french restaurant? To show off their culturally sophisticated personality… to have a zip of oversea wine… to enjoy different flavors from those our palates are used to… It was choice number three, at least this time. But there was something off… let’s pass on the bread, toasted to cover the actual age. Let’s pass on the mashed potatoes, some sour cream might have slipped in. Let’s pass on the glass of wine, might have been cognac. Let’s pass on the soup, might have gotten too friendly with the salt jar. Let’s pass on the beef… wait, we might be passing on too many things! Maybe it was an off day. Maybe dinner is not the right meal. Nevertheless, some efforts are necessary. Big efforts.

Very cute place for brunch, with an outdoor patio overlooking the street. Both things I tried were delicious. * Poached salmon benedict on a croissant, with breakfast potatoes — $ 13.75 * French onion soup — $ 8. Oh so buttery!

This place has been on my radar for a while. We finally had an excuse to check it out and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a quaint place that is easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. The layout is a bit quirky but I like it. It’s a happy place that is bright, has lots of windows, and nice views considering you’re several blocks from the ocean. Immediately upon entering, we got the sense this place was buttoned up, professional, and did the little things many other places don’t. Everyone was great, service was wonderful. The only issue with the food was what to order. Not only did the menu already have a lot of great choices tearing at me but they added three specials. I ended up with the poached salmon benedict. I was debating between this and the crab cake but this one seemed more unique. They say that they make their own hollandaise sauce and you could tell immediately. Everything was seasoned perfectly, tasted very good, and it sort of left me wanting to come back. It only came with potatoes on the side, which were fine but I’m not a huge potato fan. I did get the zucchini bread, which was good as well. The one thing I will mention is that in this country I think we are accustomed to massive servings of food you don’t find anywhere else. Having two family members in culinary arts, I have a pretty good idea of what portion sizes should be. WIth that said, the portion size here is along the lines of what it’s supposed to be so I think some people might complain they don’t get enough food. I will say I think it’s a tad expensive for the size you get but it’s well worth the money. As a side note, I tasted two mimosas which were really good(blueberry/blackberry and pomegranate). We also had 2 omelettes and a stuffed French toast at the table and everyone was raving about their selections so needless to say I can’t wait to come back to try another dish!

New brunch place yeah! The restaurant itself really doesn’t look like much at all, hole in the wall in a strange triangular location with an odd parking lot. Also odd that only a few tables were filled for lunch time. Max of 5 tables of people and all outside. Plenty more seating inside too. Definitely not the nicest place in the world, really think hole in the all. But hey, I think that’s called charm. The service was pretty good. Considering there weren’t many people there though it had better be! BRIEANDAVOCADOOMELETTE I love brie! I love avocado! Oohhh… and it was delicious together! this was a $ 11 special written on their window that I couldn’t resist. It was entirely worth it. Everything on that plate was lip smacking. The omelette was pretty big and the brie and avocado went really well together. They used a partially ripened avocado so it wasn’t super smushy, but the brie was just super melty and just kept oozing out. The potatoes it came with were also quite good, crisp and with good flavoring. It was actually crisp and flavorful! So many potato sides are just bland and not crispy unless deep-fried or pan fried in plenty of oil. Rye bread toast, yummy… hha yea toast but I love my toast. BREAKFAST«QUESADILLA» No picture… oops. Okay so this was really my boy’s dish, but of course I snuck a few bites. They put quotations around the quesadilla part because of how they make it. They don’t use two tortillas for each quesadilla, instead just folded like a hard taco. The filling was fluffy and just filled with good stuff. Loads of egg, chicken, and flavored with salsa. Portion for this was also quite big. Bistro Du Soleil, you’re now on my list of places to go for brunch! The portions were big and the price was good. Surprisingly too for a French place. I had half the plate leftover to take home. Yummy yummy.

This place has been on my to-do list for some time now and for whatever reason, I never get to try it when I want a nice weekend brunch. However, after a friend suggested that we have brunch, I was determined to finally try this place. So for all you eggs Benedict lovers, I have found the mecca. They had about 5 different varieties to choose from and yes, I really wanted to try them all. I settled for the smoked salmon and avocado Benedict but they also have a crab-cake one, one on a croissant, and I believe two others. I think next time, I’m going to see if I can combine the smoked salmon, crab-cakes and the croissant into one… mmmm. Yeah, you digging that, I know it. Surprisingly, for noon on a Saturday, place was pretty empty. Almost a little torn to write this review as I’m hoping this place doesn’t get too packed!!!

Bistro du Soleil has got a GREAT personality. Translation: It’s ugly. But it’s all about inner beauty and good food right? What it lacks in sparkle and fanciness, it makes up for in its cozy and homey atmosphere. It’s only a short walk to the beach and most importantly, they serve up some decent French bistro fare. I usually stick to the Goat Cheese Salad($ 10) that comes with warm goat cheese, croutons & mixed greens in their house vinaigrette(yum) and add grilled chicken. I’m proud to say that I clean that plate like it’s my job. Some of the other dishes have not been as exciting or as flavorful. But, service is friendly and attentive and they make you feel at home. In a good way… not in a «do-the-dishes and take-out-the-trash or you’re grounded» kind of way. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re trying to impress your gold-digger girlfriend or a picky foodie, but it would be great for a low-key date, lunch with a friend, or flying solo. Parking is tight, but there’s an itsy bitsy lot behind the place. So don’t write this place off… the food is worth a shot.
