Tuna Tataki is the best i have ever had and I like to take advantage of their lunch box specials. Also, they have the best hibachi noodles around. Service is not reliable and the current manager is very unfriendly and rude to her employees. Like I said the food is good and the sapporro drafts are cheap so that keeps us coming back.

This place is amazing! One of my favorite places to go with my family. i usually order the Cucumber(or kappa) roll, edamame, gyoza, and miso soup. although some dishes are a bit pricey, really a worthwhile joint.

I am a local and go to Koto about 2 – 3 times a month because I love sushi, however, the service is absolutely horrible. Every time we go, my boyfriend and I have to ask to be seated because nobody is at the host stand. There have been multiple times that we have waited to be seated for 5 – 10 minutes. Recently, a woman at the bar was on her cell phone and blatantly ignored us. It seems as though the servers have never served before or are overwhelmed. While the service is awful, we grin and bear it because the food is good.

The food was pretty bland and it took them forever to deliver. Prices are unreasonably high for the quality of food you get. Not recommended.

My review only pertains to the hibachi portion as I’m not a sushi lover! The hibachi is REALLY good. I don’t live in Plattsburgh, thank God, as most of the restaurants in the area are fairly low quality, but Koto is delicious and not low quality at all! There is a beautiful koi pond when you walk in and nice ambiance. We get the chicken and filet mignon hibachi combo. The filet is always cooked just as you ask it to be, seasoned perfectly and delicious! Even the soup and salad(especially the dressing!) are delicious! The fried rice is sooooo good, all of the chefs we have ever gotten have been funny and engaging and put on a good«show» while preparing really yummy food!

Not bad. Been here a few times over the past several years — I stick to the sushi. Never had the hibachi here but it seems pretty popular. The sushi is decent — not over the top amazing but certainly fine. I don’t get any of the rolls with mayo, fried stuff or tempura flakes — just basic rolls and sushi pieces. The salmon, yellowtail and tuna are good — the avocado in the rolls(during my recent visit) was excellent(perfectly ripe and flavorful). I saw lots of people getting cooked dishes — udon and other hibachi-inspired items at the regular tables — they looked pretty good. The service is friendly and efficient; we were in and out of there quickly this past Saturday night.

I went on Saturday after my brother graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh. Koto is your average, small town(perhaps not QUITE authentic) Japanese restaurant. Although it was nothing special, the service was excellent and our food was tasty enough so I can’t really rationalize giving it less then 3 stars. I ordered a beer once our whole party sat down and when I told the friendly waitress that I wanted a(n alcoholic) drink, her response was«ballin’!!». I started with a seaweed salad(pretty good), then my mom and I split the vegetable tempura(pretty good, but the ginger dipping sauce was bland) and a spicy girl roll(pretty good, but topped with too much mayo). My brother got a bento box and I tried one of his shrimp dumplings, which was also edible. tl; dr: Good service and reasonably acceptable sustinance. I would maybe return if I ever have to visit Plattsburgh again.

Only Hibiachi place in Plattsburgh… so I guess they win if thats what you are looking for. I came here the other night(on a thursday) for a surprise birthday party. The coordinator of the party made a reservation in advance for their private party room in the back. When we arrived, we were told that we were going to be sat in the dining room(with everyone else — families and people not getting hibachi). After clearly explaining several times to the hostess and one of the servers, and kind of arguing with them a little bit with all of the confusion they had — the eventually moved us into the private room… the one we had reserved for all of us all along. After we were all seated, everyone ordered. The server then came back to explain to us that there were only two hibachi chefs on that night and that whoever ordered hibachi would have to relocate to another table in the party room… meaning everyone would get separated from who they were originally sitting with(not ideal) I had to explain to the staff a way to solve their own problem, and eventually it all worked out. The birthday girl actually found a piece of glass in her water cup(it came up through her straw) but no compensation was made for anything she ordered. However, the bar manager did apologize more then once. The food overall is mediocre every time I have been here. It is good for families and the college students — but not for me.

Horrifically bad. I ordered sushi which came with miso soup. The soup was terrible, tasted stale, and was barely warm. The sushi was even worse– the seaweed was sticky, the rice dry and hard, and the fish flavorless. My waitress really made it worse– she took my order, brought it out, and that’s the last I saw of her. She never refilled my drink or brought my check. About 20 minutes after finishing eating I finally gave up and asked the bartender for a check. I paid $ 39 for a basic sushi meal just for myself. The service is terrible, the food is terrible, and the owners are snotty and mean. This place easily ranks in my top 5 worst dining experiences ever.

What do you do for a Sushi fix in Plattsburgh NY? Do you take a chance on a Japanese Steak House? If its Koto, the answer is YES. Ordered the Sashimi Deluxe The Miso soup was terrible and tasted like it came out of a package from the grocery. So imagine my joy when I tasted the sashimi. The salmon was buttery and delicious they even served scollops sweet and firm. Ordered a dragon roll another great offering Yeah it’s loud with the hibachi show but I was lost in the Sashimi! Service was prompt and friendly My advice don’t waste you time with the Miso Soup and enjoy the sushi & sashimi That’s why they only get 4 stars

3.5 star… cant’ quite give it a 4. forget the hibachi which seems to the big thing at the restaurant… i think hibachi’s are ripped off from looking at the prices… order from the regular menu for better deal… i like the following: house salad bento box. you get to pick items, comes with cali roll, soup … good deal. sushi isn’t too bad either. spider maki … also have tired the seafood teriyaki(pretty good) piña colada drink is good… waitress service is so so … not the best. surprisingly a good japanese restaurant to eat at in the middle of nowhere…

Expensive mediocre Japanese. The showman ship element is fun, but doesn’t compensate for the food being mediocre and overpriced. I did have a very pleasant experience with the waiters, and the ambiance is very pleasant.

Awesome place to eat. I am here for business and have to eat there again before I leave! If you’re on the fence and can’t decide… go! you won’t be disappointed!

This is not a place to work if you hate your job and you don’t want to interact with people. I guess my cook didn’t realize that when he applied and got the job for Koto. He was miserable. The only two words that he said the whole time where — Hello and Fire. Other than that he looked pissed off at the world and like he just wanted to get the hell out of there! The food wasn’t much better than the service. We started with seared tuna and shrimp tempura roll. Ew. Neither tasted fresh. Not a good feeling when you are eating raw fish(the tuna that is). As far as the hibachi — everything was over cooked and a bit burnt. Not good — especially when you are ordering scallops. Needless to say, I will never be coming back here again.

For years now – YEARS, literally – I’ve been saying to my mom, «Hey, you know what? We should totally try Koto the next time I’m home!’ And you know what? We never do. Until last weekend. My mom and stepdad and I came here to do one thing and one thing only – watch a guy risk life and limb to cook us tasty Japanese food over a roaring fire in an artistic manner. Because what fun is going out to eat if there isn’t a chance of dying in a dramatic fashion? We came on a Monday night, which in Plattsburgh is code for«ghost town». There are four giant hibachi tables set up around the room, vaguely reminiscent of a high school chemistry lab, what with the gas nozzles and lab table-like setup of the room(only way nicer, obviously). In total, 8 of us fit around that table, and after the waitress took our hibachi orders(which include soup, salad, your meat of choice, veggies, and noodles or fried rice) the chef came in with his cart of tricks and started setting up. And then FLASH! BANG! SIZZLE! Eyebrows gone for 6 weeks. Didn’t need them anyway. Fire was blazing, and chef was doing his thing, chopping up veggies and meat and doing straight-up magic on the grill. I ordered scallops with veggies over fried noodles and could barely finish. I gave the remainder of my scallops to my mom to include in the take-home box. Yum. More meals need to be prepared in such a dramatic fashion. And I need a handcart to roll me out of places like these. Will definitely return the next time I’m in town and crave grilled meat and/or sushi.

Koto Japanese Steak House has been in Plattsburgh for a few years, so surprised I am the first to write a review. I have been a fan of Japanese hibachi dining since first going to Myabi Kyoto’s in Myrtle Beach at least 10 years ago. Although Kyoto’s is still my favorite, I do like Koto’s very much. I am not a sushi eater, so can’t say anything about that. They do have a sushi bar and a bar for drinks as well. I have only dined in the hibachi part, where the chefs cook your meal in front of you on a grill that you sit around. I have been to Koto’s and they have prepared a meal for just the two of us without waiting to fill up the area. The typical meal starts out with broth, then salad with a wonderful ginger salad dressing. The cook comes out and then makes the volcano with onions and cooks the zucchini, onions, and mushrooms. The typical meal consists of fried rice or noodles and an entrée of steak, chicken, shrimp, or scallops. They serve hot mustard and ginger dipping sauces(although I always request a bowl of their ginger salad dressing which I dip EVERYTHING in. I generally take advantage of the early bird special from 3:30 — 6:00 where you can get hibachi shrimp, steak, or scallops for $ 13.95.(If I miss that, I get the steak and shrimp combination for $ 24.95). During the week I usually walk in before 6 pm and it is never busy. I went on Saturday February 13 the last time and required a reservation. I wouldn’t go back on a holiday like that as every table was filled with people waiting. I had never even seen people in the small section to the right as you walk in before that night. The chef puts on the typical show that you can see in Japanese hibachi restaurants down south(clanging the spatulas, lighting the volcano on fire, throwing food in your mouth, etc.) Although I have seen the show enough to not be very impressed by it, I love watching little kids who have come for the first time. They always love it! I am a pretty fussy eater and I like the food pretty well. The Koto’s in Burlington was a little nicer looking, but at least in Plattsburgh you don’t get charged for soda refills like they do in Vermont. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Plattsburgh.
