The food was mediocre and bland. The fried rice was good, but small. But my BIGGEST complaint is the service and the management. The waitress kept bringing our waters without ice, and she didn’t seem to speak much english. But our main gripe is that we heard about this place via , and when we presented our $ 25 gift certificate, they refused to take it. The waitress informed us that the manager decided to no longer honor them. So we drove 30 minutes OUTOFOURWAY for mediocre, and after the refusal to take our coupon OVERPRICED food. We are not happy and will never return.

The first time I went to this place, I thought the food was pretty good. The second time however, I noticed that all of the shrimp that we ordered were not deveined, which grossed me out. Overall, it feels like this place is not consistent. Also, this place uses . We tried to use our certificate, which wasn’t accepted. The staff said«we told to take us off the website, but they haven’t done it.» You can still purchase certificates for this restaurant off the website. Overall unprofessional. Food is decent, and they do BYOB… but, they decided to reject a certificate instead of keeping a customer. I will not be returning.

Let me just start this review by explaining how I heard about this place. Now I have been to the Chinese supermarket(now closed) in Plano several times. I have eaten in the little food court inside the supermarket tons of times as well. The Korean and Japanese food there are very authentic. But never once did I consider trying this Chinese bbq joint just outside of the supermarket. I don’t know if it was a mental block which kept me from ever setting foot in it but I just never gave Joy Luck BBQ a chance. Then one day while talking with some guys I play basketball with about good asian food, one of the Cantonese guys recommended Joy Luck BBQ. Since I had genuinely never been there, and this guy was a full out Canto just moved from HK type and had nothing to say but good things about this place. I naturally had to try it. Once… then twice… then 6 times, and now it is a regular for me. I have had good Chinese food in California, China, Taiwan, Japan. And I have always struggled to find a good home made Chinese meal here in the metroplex. Thanks to Joy Luck BBQ, this will no longer be the case. let me just list off the items that you NEED to try if you ever go. Beef Flat Noodles — The beef flat noodles have a delicious smokey flavor I have never experienced eating any other noodles. There is a very generous portion of beef and vegetables in this dish as well. BBQ pork — Thinly sliced and great taste. Roasted Pork — They don’t always have this so ask if they do. It is bloody delicious. Roasted Duck — This is the staple of any Cantonese BBQ joint. I love roasted duck so I love this stuff. If you speak chinese you can ask them which vegetables they have are in season and are good, im sure you can ask them in english too, all my experiences with the staff are very friendly. Wonton Soup — I know every chinese restaurant makes this stuff but this place is SERIOUSLY the bomb. The wontons of course are made in house, and are packed with flavor. Ma-bo Tofu — I have no idea what this is called in english, but its basically a beef and tofu mixture in spicy sauce. Its very spicey and perfect over rice. Also had bits of mushroom, green onion and other things. Regarding the service at this restaurant, I honestly never go to a Chinese restaurant and expect«good» service. Service here is understandable. You can tell its family run but the food is what tihs review is all about. And it is wonderful.

I think this is probably one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants in the DFW area. If you know Chinese you can probably get off menu items. But for the most part, the food there is fantastic. Service is great and the people there are friendly. The prices are a bit pricier than other Chinese food places, but the quality is superior.

Taste(B+), Food Presentation(B-), Creativity(B), Portion/Value(B), Service(F), Atmosphere(B-) Waitstaff suck. They don’t serve you well and they charge for rice after the initial bowl. The peking duck with onions and hoisin sauce and roll is good but I am taking my business to 1st Chinese BBQ after the terrible wait service. They pimp you for a tip after lousy service. I am sorry but I do not believe I am obligated to tip. A tip is a gratuity, not an obligation. Cantonese food with lousy wait staff.

Categorically best Chinese food in Dallas. It’s out of the way, but worth it. It’s still not as good as what you might find in New York Chinatown, or San Fran, but hey it’s Dallas. What you will find is Chinese food that’s not heavy or gross. it’s light and flavorful. The sizzling plates are awesome. I prefer the BBQ pork fried rice, but for the health watchers, the Joy Luck Combination fried rice is very health conscious. One thing that you must order is the Broiled shrimp with Spicy salt(in Shell). Don’t forgot to try a hot pot. Definitely a great Chinese restaurant in Dallas.
