This place can get busy with lines out the door. Don’t let the line scare you off, it moves fast. Staff gives great service for a place this busy. Food is almost always good. It’s a sure bet for a great seafood dinner. Week days have a shorter line for fast service. Reliable consistent good Texas seafood. I have been there so many times they know me by name.

Great little place with fresh seafood made to order. Very informal — order at the counter and someone brings the food out to you. This place is hidden off the main roads, but seems always busy. I stop by whenever in this end of Dallas.

Nice little, casual place; but I try to avoid peak times. I always get the grilled or blackened fish; b/c it’s so good and healthy(I tell myself.)

Excellent fried seafood in a casual setting. Reminded me of «DownEast» North Carolina coastal dinning. I had the fried shrimp and oysters and my husband had boiled shrimp, both dishes were fresh(as in not ever frozen)! Can’t wait to return! Staff were also outstanding!

I love the décor. Very chill t shirt and jeans place. The fiancé ordered the boiled shirmp. It was really bland. Not worth it. I had the oysters on the half shell and they were good. I also had their fried shrimp and it was really good. You can’t go wrong with anything that they fry. I wouldn’t go back unfortunately.

Fried Oysters were really good, shrimp was large and tasty, staff was great, great atmosphere. It was cold outside, so every time the door opened it was freezing in there. A little pricey for portion size.

The gumbo was disappointing. Tasted like shrimp and rice in gravy instead of the traditional gumbo with roux. Also there was no sausage or okra in it. The fried oysters and shrimp were very good though.

This is a good place. Good food, good people, good vibe. The shrimp came out so hot and fresh. Not greasy.

If a little tiny local place that you’ve driven by for years is named«Best seafood shack outside of New Orleans,» you have an obligation to try it out. At least that’s what I think. It is tiny and the lines can get long — always a good sign. And there are signs telling you not to grab a table until after you order. That’s awesome. I hate those jerks. Speaking of tables, they’re simple, no frills. Paper towels, every different condiment that you could want — from standard hot sauce to Tabasco to malt vinegar. Plus saltines. Nice. We ordered a fried basket to share. The fried goods were crisp-tender and not greasy. Yum. The tarter sauce, always an important element for me, was delicious. The fries were ok, but not a style that I prefer. I like thin-crisp fries, these were fat-tender. To each their own. We also ordered a side of hush puppies. Yum-o. I’d order those again. Be aware that street construction in front makes it extremely difficult to get into the parking lot. That should be finished sometime in first quarter 2016. I don’t agree that the Fish Shack is the best place outside of New Orleans. It simply isn’t the place to go for Cajun cooking. It is a great place to get a good order of fried catfish and hushpuppies… East Texas style, and I’ve been looking for a place like that ever since Red Acker’s closed in Noonday, Texas.

As with the other 5 Star reviewers I found Fish Shack to be on point on every level. Great service. Great value. Great seafood. I’ve had almost the entire menu, it’s all great! Friendly employees. A+

2 reasons to come here: Coconut/Fried Shrimp and Shrimp Cocktail. The cod is ok and the tartar sauce is disgusting. I stick to the above two and love it every time.

I had a bowl of gumbo and it was meh… I also had a bite of my friend’s grill salmon and veggies. The veggies were WWAAAYYYY over cooked. Fish was okay but flavorless. Kind of disappointed because I’ve always wanted to try this place. You order at the counter and give them your name. Then you take a seat and wait for them to bring out your food. They somehow just find you. It was a full house for dinner and I was wondering how they were going to find me but they did. Bowl of gumbo was $ 5. Prices are reasonable. Maybe their fried baskets are better? I might give them another try.

Amidst the construction on 15th street is an unassuming blue building called the Fish Shack. I met fellow Unilocaler Venus here for happy hour on a Friday. We arrived around 4:15pm, which was the perfect time because the shack filled up quickly. You order at the counter. They have margaritas for $ 3.50 during happy hour. Not a bad deal at all. Next I moved to the cashier to place my order. I tried the fish and shrimp basket with fries. You find your own table, and they have runners who will call your name and find you when your food is ready. The catfish was a little on the bland side, but it was fresh. I really loved the shrimp though. they were fried butterfly style, and had a lot of taste. I was pretty stuffed by the time we left. Oh, and by that time, there was a line, so if you can, try to go early. The service was very friendly and efficient. I would like to go back to try the shrimp cocktail.

Well, we just got home from vacationing in Corpus Christi, TX, this weekend and wanted another seafood meal. We tried The Fish Shack after hearing about it for a while… It was better than the seafood we had on the coast! No joke! The catfish is fried up perfectly, the shrimp taste like it was netted this morning, and the tarter sauce was full of flavor. I’m so happy that we found a local option for fish and shrimp! The line was a little long, but that should be a good thing. We were served quickly after ordering — and the servers were super friendly. Forget the 7 hour road trip… the taste of the sea is at 15th Street in Plano!

I was craving some clam chowder so I decided to check this place out. We ordered at the counter and sat down at a table out on the covered patio. My clam chowder wasn’t bad and my fried oysters were okay, nothing to write home about. The onion rings were a bit off though, like they used an odd batter to fry them in. I don’t think I’d come here again just because there are other seafood places closer to me, but this is a nice place for a casual lunch.

Total dive-looking place. The fried shrimp basket was DELISH!!! $ 4.75 for a glass of wine isn’t bad, either. Enjoyed the coleslaw. We saw someone else order the shrimp cocktail(pictured a few times on Unilocal) and we kicked ourselves for not getting it! Looks amazing. Word of caution: as someone else mentioned, the street construction directly in front of the restaurant is HORRIBLE. We sat outside and listened to car after car bottom out and lose parts of their cars. If you’re coming from 75, be SURE to make the first turn in to the restaurant, or there’s a good chance you’re going to leave part of your car on the road!

I loved this shack! It was a little pricey but not a range out of the ordinary. We got a pound of crawfish(in season now and there was a special!), ½ pound of shrimp, and a dozen oysters($ 7.95 from 3pm-6pm M-Friday) to a total of $ 31. This place gets super packed. We went at about 5:30pm. Thank goodness we did because after we got our food, a flood of people came in while weathering the rain, out the door. I was really happy with the taste of our food– cravings for oysters were satisfied! The sauce was delicious as well. Thank you fish shack!

This is the best lunch bargains around, a good large piece of fried catfish and a very large bowl of some of the best red beans and rice one can get. We went early again hoping to beat the lunch crowd and we were right on target. Walked in without a line and placed our order and it was just a few minutes until the runner had our food on the table. It was not long until there was line all the way to the front door. The prices are fantastic and I frankly don’t see how the owner does this for the lunch price charged. I the looked around to see what others were ordering and only about 25% were ordering the luncheon special. The food looks great and the taste is excellent. looks like I will going to this restaurant for a lot more lunches. The roadwork out front seems to have been taking place for years but I sure that is not the case. Wish they would hurry a little and get that street finished.

I have heard & read about The Fish Shack for quite some time & have been trying to get there for months. We went there on a rainy Sat afternoon with fear that I would have to wait in line for a while fighting the crowd. Luckily there was no wait initially but started to fill up during the meal. The 1st thing I noticed was the service… We were immediately greeted & asked for our drink order while we checked out the menu. Once we ordered, they ask your name & from there forward, they call you by your 1st name. We ordered fish tacos, fried fish & shrimp & shrimp cocktail. The food came out rather quickly & a tad over-fried but very tasty. As I was eating, I was checking out what others were eating… I noticed a worker(on lunch break) eating a fish burger that looked amazing, also several people were eating the soup which looked good as well. I saw a lot of Hushpuppies going out so I decided to place an order. Thank goodness I did because they were the best I’ve had! They were fresh with jalepeno and purple onion(the most underrated onion in my opinion). Overall the food was good — but what’s going to bring me back was the young lady behind the counter. She seemed to have built up some great rapport with the locals & regulars. That’s what makes a place unique & special. So next time I visit, I’m ok waiting in line because I know that what’s at the end of the line will be well worth the wait!

Passing by and thought I’d give the Fish Shack a go. First and foremost; it is a true blue collar establishment. Line was almost out the door when I arrived at 11:15. Order at the counter. A number of choices especially of fried seafood. If you don’t like fried food, then this is probably not going to be the right place for you. I got the combo fried basket/plate with shrimp and oyster with fries, coleslaw and a side of hush puppies. They take your name at the register and when it is ready, the waiter will bring it out and call your name. Portion was decent. Food was hot. Shrimp was good. A couple oysters were just a bit bitter for my taste. Fries and coleslaw very acceptable. Best thing I liked was the hushpuppies. Very tasty. Spent almost $ 20.00 for lunch. Wasn’t expecting that, but the food was very acceptable.
