I was very impressed with Sal’s. We came here with my family for our Christmas celebration this year and were glad we did. The place doesn’t look like much from the outside, but it’s actually very nicely done inside with a cozy yet sophisticated feel. It was also decorated for Christmas when we visited, which made it even better. Our waiter was friendly and did a great job keeping up with drinks and the like. He seemed knowledgeable when it came to the menu and even helped my wife choose between a few different options. The food itself was quite good. I started off with the Caesar salad, which was good but nothing special. Apparently I should have gone with the house salad and Italian dressing, which they make in house. Next time, I guess. My pasta, on the other hand, was very good and the portion was plenty big — easily enough for two meals. After all that food none of us had any room for dessert. So again, maybe next time. And a next time I think there shall be. The service was good, the food was tasty, and the price, portion size, and quality all stacked up nicely. See you soon, Sal! And maybe next time we’ll try the pizza.

Whoa… what happened? Hot salad plate while my family’s were cold. Then my pasta Alfredo Carbonara came out buried in pepper and the Alfredo sauce was separating from being over cooked… yuck. Been hit or miss here(more hits then misses) but tonight it was not even edible. What a waste. =/

Amazing food, the pizza is so well done, and they seem to be one of the only restaurants that get the Alfredo sauce right. Their pasta is amazing especially the Penne Della Casa. I love their garlic rolls, they melt in your mouth. My personal favorite here is the Napolitana Wood fire pizza. If you’re looking for an amazing Italian place with a hint of romance this is your place.

Service is horrible tonight. Have been here 35 mins. Only one person in party got salad. We odered stromboli, two salads, ravioli, three meatballs with marinara. There are only 5 other tables of people and 6 waiters working. Ridiculous.

Food was above average but service was below. Our waitress forgot to put in our appetizer. We had to ask for more bread and drinks. People who came in after is we’re served drinks and bread way before we even saw our waitress. She had blond hair and dark glasses.

Fantastic pizza and garlic rolls. Nice thin crust with crispy but chewy edges. We had the caprese pizza and the Giardiniera — both had fresh ingredients, the right amount of cheese, just a little sauce and lots of flavor. Totally unnecessary because the pizzas are so delicious, but we also had the garlic rolls because everyone said they were great — and they were! Chewy, cheesy, garlicky and great for dipping in the marinara sauce! Wow, that put us over the top. The great thing is we have lots of leftovers! Definitely a great local pizza joint. We got takeaway and when we went to pick it up the place was packed — another sign of a great pizza joint. You won’t be disappointed.

What a great find! Authentic and very fresh food. Service was excellent! Prices are good too. I don’t live in Plainfield but I will definitely be back for this little gem. Thanks Luke for the great menu suggestions for us first timers. They were spot on!

We have passed Sal’s Pizzeria in Plainfield for years. We decided it was time to try their food. Their salad was no doubt the best I have ever had, fresh, crisp and delicious. I wish my entrée was as true. I asked for some garlic powder or minced garlic to give the dish some flavor. Unfortunately, it just didn’t do the trick. My partner was satisfied with her meal, but didn’t feel it was worth the effort to eat there. My server was young and didn’t seem to be to interested in trying to satisfy us by suggesting any way to perk up the flavor. I was so disappointed. It maybe another series of years before we try eating there again.

Food is always very good. Have tried several items on the menu and have never been disappointed. The service is hit or miss at best. Wish they’d employee professional servers instead of high school kids, but the quality of the food deserves 5 stars despite the below average service. Overall great value for the quality of items served. Wish they’d rethink the ‘extra’ charges for things most restaurants provide without question. Seems a little greedy.

Long time customer who eats or orders out 5 to 8 times a week will seek options. VERY good food but growth seems to be at the expense of service. The people tried to correct an acknowledged«to go order issue» but it is clear making sure the customer is satisfied is secondary to chargeing for any thing extra. That was not how Sals, on the side street in Plainfield, gained my loyalty 15 years ago, but thanks for the years past, I did enjoy them.

OK. So this is a terrible situation that had a good ending. We had never been to Sal’s before so we decided we would go to the one in Brownsburg but when we called to verify their hours the phone number did not work. So we called the Plainfield location and they advised us that the Brownsburg location was closed for remodel. So we asked what time they closed and the guy said 10pm so we said see you soon. We got in the car and get there at 915pm and there was a couple standing at the register to pick up their order and the girl who later was identified as Madison asked us were we there to pick up and order or dine in and we said that we would be dining in and she looked over at the clock and said that we are closing due to the weather. So that ticked me off good and proper because she was smart mouthed when she said that. And my quick whit replied that not only did i call to verify that you were open and what time you closed but i just drove 20 minutes to get here. you are going to serve me. So she yelled for a guy in the back to come take over the register for her. I assumed she did that so she could seat us. Oh no she went over to the corner and stood there and mumbled to another female server about us insisting on eating. After the guy finished cashing out the couple in front of us we told him what transpired and he said well let me seat you and that he would take care of us. We asked for a manager and was told they were busy in the back. What manager is too busy to come out and speak to a guest. Business 101 will tell you that if you have no customers then you have nothing to be busy for. So we let that go. So the guy that waited on us was named Lucas and he took good care of us. We ordered the Garlic Rolls. Those were by far the best I have ever eaten. I literally could go there and eat nothing else and be satisfied. But we are not that smart so we ordered a large pizza I cannot remember the name of it but it was a meat pizza with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and ham. and it was a very good pizza! Let me back up for a second. Lucas brought out some bread with our drinks and 1st appearance it just looked like a few slices of white bread and I was unimpressed at first sight. But I was hungry so I picked up a piece and took a bight and it was pretty good. and then the oil they put on the table to dip it in was some special recipe of their own and it was really good too. So again we are not too smart. and we ordered a Chicken Stromboli. I did not enjoy this at all but it was not their fault, it had ingredients that I already knew I do not like. I hate cooked spinach and I really hate mushrooms so I did not eat any of that but my partner did and he said it was good but not as good as all the previous food we ordered. This was Saturday night February 28th around 915pm was when we were here. They have coke products. yuck. I keep thinking one day restaurants will serve both pepsi and coke. Sal can thank Lucas for turning an experience that would have made us NEVER come back to one where we will go back and request him as our server. The moral to this story is you should not hire young kids with smart mouths who do not want to work in the first place. My guess is she is probably a relative as nobody else would put up with an employee like that.

The food was just as good as the Mooresville location and I would say that the layout/décor is better. The wait staff while nice wasn’t the most attentive I have experienced. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time though they had just cleared out several tables so I don’t know how a full restaurant would have affected this. I would definitely recommend this location for a date or just a family night out. It took about 10 minutes before anyone greeted us at the host stand. This trend continued throughout the night with several people walking out from frustration.

I do enjoy coming here every time we come. They always meet our expectations and more. We like to discuss for a while the music they’d have playing sometimes it’s not Italian and we can’t place what it is exactly. Right now they have Michael Bubĺe music and we are getting ready to eat our deep dish pizza. It’s Wednesday at 2 pm and it’s nice and quiet, we are actually the only ones here which is a first, we usually come for dinner and not lunch so it’s usually crowded. Nice place. Good food.

Wanting to try it and ended up with a 6 hour flight delay. So I decided to go. Décor is very nice and liquor selection looks good. Pepperoni slice is excellent. East coast style in the Midwest. Will be back for sure. Little pricy for a slice but where in Indy are you getting this? No AMEX here. You will have to add Parmesan and Hot Peppers to the slice to get better flavor . Minus a star for no AMEX. Prices should account for added fees. It makes me feel it is not up to par.

I had never been to Sal’s even though I’ve driven past it for years. They now have three locations in Plainfield, Brownsburg and Mooresville. We went to lunch today at the Plainfield location. Lunch is a reduced menu and the full dinner menu is available from 4 – 10 p.m. The lunch menu prices are very reasonable from Spaghetti Campanola at 5.95 to Vegetarian Calzone at 6.99 being the priciest on the lunch menu with the exception of pizzas. We both ordered the Baked Ziti and Garlic Rolls at the recommendation of a customer dining next to us. The Ziti was baked with a red sauce, ricotta and mozzarella cheese as you would expect. I personally had to add a decent amount of crushed red peppers as I thought it was rather bland. My sister-in-law did not. Of course this isn’t unusual for me since I prefer spicy food. It was good, a decent lunch portion and reasonably priced at 6.75. We both agreed we would order again. For me the Garlic Rolls were the highlight of lunch. Four rolls made of homemade pizza dough with garlic, oregano, parmesan and mozzarella cheese rolled inside the knot. These with a salad will be my next lunch here. They are very filling, cheesy and yummy and perfect for sharing. The restaurant has been remodeled and has low lighting, comfortable seating with prompt and excellent service. I certainly will return and look forward to the garlic rolls.

I was very happy with Sal’s…a group of us(six total) went there for lunch today and we were all taken care of. The food was delicious, promptly delivered, and reasonably priced. I look forward to exploring more of the menu.

This place has gone down hill! We have been regulars — at least once a week — and will no longer go back. Food is nothing great — pasta from the freezer, no flavor in anything. Pizza is horrible — soggy crust, undercooked(cheese not melted), and the tiramisu is NEVER fresh. Not worth the money you will waste!
