If I have to recommend only one ranch to visit in Apple Hill, Abel’s Apple Acres has to be the one. They are one of the first places coming up from Sacramento and are open through December. The ranch has a full bakery and candy shop with lots of vendors selling arts and crafts. Out back, they have a full hay bale maze and other activities for the kids during peak months. Inside, the layout is a little chaotic, but the real treat here are the candy apples. They have a huge selection ranging from the classic to the crazy with even some Halloween apples in season. Even late in the season, I was able to get a caramel apple pie which was the best of both worlds! Parking is always a nightmare during peak seasons, but is very easy after Halloween. The lot is split across the street, so watch out for traffic. Make sure to take a selfie with the bears out front!

Abel’s Apple Acres is one of the most popular orchard here in Apple Hill. Located on the west side of Apple Hill, it is one of the first places you will hit coming from Sacramento. This place is great for kids. There is a fence maze, water globe ball thing, and a jumping bouncy thing. All those activities will let your kids get that extra energy out of them. I am thinking there is an extra cost for them. There are a few tents with vendors selling their goods. There is a good variety of items that ranges from lavender products, different art items, little trinkets, and other goods. If you are hungry, there is a BBQ«shack» towards the back. They have an excellent selection of BBQ food which includes tri tip, pork, and chicken as main meats. Sides include potato salad, cole slaw, corn on the cob, all kinds of fries, chili, and chips. To accommodate the kids, a kids meal is available. I ordered the tri tip plate and it was quite good. Meat wasn’t too dry and had flavor to it but I think it could use some more seasoning. The plates come with a choice of potato salad, cole slaw, or chips, dinner roll, corn on the cob, and butter. I tried the potato salad but I thought it was too sour. Silverware, BBQ sauce, ketchup, mustard, and napkins are around the corner to the left when you order. Along with plates they also have sandwiches with your choice of meat. Inside is where all the action is happening. They have multiple registers open and each of them have long lines. You can purchase a great selection of goodies which includes frozen pies, fudge, candy, caramel apples, fresh warm pies, and apples by the pound. There is plenty of parking but it can get chaotic. Occasionally there is a police officer directing traffic. If you are passing by here you might have to wait a while due to the popularity of the place. Tons of stuff to do and things to see here at Abel’s. Worth a stop.

This is one of the three must stops on your Apple Hill adventure. This place has it all, fun and games for kids, picnic areas, bakery pumping out all sorts of goodies, fudge and Carmel apples, and frozen apple pies of all shapes and sizes. Their bakery is my favorite on the loop. They have these apple donuts with cinnamon sugar that are just mouth watering good. I was bummed to see the prepackaged dozen were sold out, but managed to nab the last fresh dozen! So it was a win either way. The have amazing loafs of bread that are just fantastic. I always make sure to get a pumpkin apple loaf for my mama, she adores them.

I bought a frozen, sugar-free apple pie and it came out really watery inside. Anyone know what went wrong?
