Mary’s Carrot Cake

Elmer Fudd would stop chasing Bugs Bunny to share in his carrot cake. Cookie Monster would stop and say, «Mmmmm, me love Mary’s carrot cup cake.» And, my chocolate-​loving mother-​in-​law would skip chocolate birthday cake for this (true, it happened last night.). You must come here.
OK, let’s get to the specifics. Mary’s is a tiny hole-​in-​the-​wall spot across from Barrington Stage and around the corner from Hotel on North. It is not a full service bakery with dozens of different kinds of cookies, bagels, etc. Instead, it has a handful of sweet baked goods that are ridiculously good. The carrot cake is indeed amazing. So, are the chocolate slices and lemon cakes. And, you are likely to meet Mary.
This is what you should do. Go over for a cupcake of your choice and a cup of coffee. The cup cakes and slices are as good as a full cake. This will cure your sweet tooth and your mouth will be singing a merrie melody.

I ordered a carrot cake for my sister’s birthday. When I went to pick it up «Mary» said she was giving me a nine inch instead of a 6 inch like I had ordered because she had 4 of them. I didn’t give it much thought until I got it home an hour later. I felt the bottom of the box and it was ice cold. I checked the internal temperature and it was close to 0 degrees.
I don’t care how many ingredients a cake has, if it is frozen it is not fresh baked, which is what I ordered. I will never order a cake from this person again.
It is no wonder her shop has closed.

I will tell you what I am not a normal fan of carrot cake. I have a definite sweet tooth and if there is one thing I do enjoy it is a well prepared cake. I was at a local event, the «taste of the berkshires» held at the crowne plaza and I was walking by a beautifully done display of desserts by Mary’s carrot cake. I decided why not try something I typically don’t enjoy and boy was I not disappointed. This cake is absolutely spectacular. The taste was unbelievably FRESH. The hints of maple syrup, pineapple, and delicious cream cheese frosting absolutely blew me away. Being a restaurant owner in Berkshire county I have even gone so far as to order her cakes for my dessert because they made that much of an impression on me. When I also spoke to Mary she said it perfectly… It took over 20 years for her to perfect the recipe she currently has and that is exactly what she did Perfect carrot cake and made a true fan out of at least me.

Really delicious lemon cake. It was definitely worth searching out this little place. Very nice and helpful staff.

Don’t miss out visiting this store to enjoy one of three sizes of carrot cakes! My daughter and I literally ventured into the store this afternoon in search of a tiny bit of sugar. Seeing the mini carrot cup cakes, medium size cup cakes and whole cakes, I knew this was worth a try. The owner was a kind, upbeat and passionate person who is so confident in her product, she allowed me to take a small treat back to my husband for free. Since we enjoyed carrot cake at our wedding, we are pretty picky. Moist, fresh and bursting with good balance, you need to stop in and order a cake or cupcake today. I know I will.

Fresh off a poor experience at a nearby restaurant, I was able to recuperate over a 27-​ingredient carrot cake from Mary’s Carrot Cake. The small location across from Barrington Stage is pretty cool and well decorated. One slice of cake is $ 3, which is typically out of my draconian (ly) low price range, but I decided to splurge anyways. The cake was very good and an excellent introduction to carrot cake for my GF who, until recently, had hated carrots and therefore never savored a carrot cake. She enjoyed it enough that she was eager to get another slice, but unfortunately only had a credit card. Not willing to let us leave empty handed (or is it stomach-​ed) Mary graciously let us have another slice of cake on the house.
The al fresco dining was also a great way to really accentuate the experience. It was ironic that within 10 minutes of having the worst dining experience down the street, I could happen upon this location and have one of the best experiences ever!
