Stopped in on the way to go get dinner on a recommendation from our nearby hotel. What a selection of beers!!! It was a quiet night in the middle of winter so no games going on on the northside and the Beer Market was quiet. We had the opportunity to chat with the bartenders and get their advice on some good local beers, which we enjoyed. Definitely recommend the place — my only wish is that they had food as well.

If you have pregamed for a Steel City team in the past few years, the Beermarket is not an unknown staple to you. As a sports enthusiastic city, an establishment like this one was beyond needed, so I was happy to see if open across the street from PNC Park. The space is large, right from the door, you have a few outdoor tables, a larger indoor island, a bunch of high top tables towards the long end of the Space. But wrapping around space is my favorite place to sit, the long Bar. Once seated, you can ogle at the vast lineup of seasonal taps from near and far. You are handed a bible of beers, almost literally. Pages upon pages, sorted and filtered by alphabet, different styles, different countries. Just amazing. Challenge: what if you like one style and want to try something new or similar? The staff is there to your rescue. Each one a passionate beer drinker themselves, they are quick to give you recommendations to help expand your taste patterns. Now, a few things to be aware of: 1. The place does not serve food. They chose to skimp on the kitchen to bring you a more sophisticated liquid diet. Bravo. Also, they completely allow you to bring your own food in, so grab up one of the menus laying around, walk across the street or call up your favorite delivery service 2. Be wary of the ABV. Tasty beer goes to your head quickly so heads up on what you are drinking. Also, when your bartenders make suggestions, it’s pretty quick to happen that you go from a 4.2% to a 9.5%. that happened to me, and i did not see much of the Baseball game I was going to see afterwards. 3. They have a stage for live music, this is just cool so come when there are people putting the pregame in swing 4. It’s a beer bible, Just like a easter or christmas mass, some beer are only available seasonally and some are only ordered in small quantities. Usually, with my luck I attempt to order something that is not available. Makes me sad, but even the best place does not constantly hold 1000 different styles. Good on ya Beermarket, I shall return.

I went to The Beer Market a few weeks ago before attending a Pirates game. It is directly across the street from the stadium, so the happy hour crowd built quickly on that Friday afternoon. As their name denotes, they sell beer. Actually, beer is all that they sell, and they sell a lot of it. They have a huge draft list, and an even larger bottle list. I had several different wheat and German beers before heading into the game. Our waitress was attentive, even when our circle of 3 grew to 12, she kept everyone’s glass full. The Beer Market likes to keep things simple, they only sell BEER. They do not sell food, but never fear, you can bring food in, or order delivery from some of the other local establishments. On the summer night that I was there, a lot of food trucks lined the street outside of the stadium. I wasn’t hungry at that point, but after seeing the selections inside the stadium, I realized that I should have taken advantage of The Beer Market’s BYOF policy. Great place. If I lived in Pittsburgh I would visit often.

I want to move above the beer market :-) I love great beer. I have downloaded an application on my phone to track my progress and recommend beers for me. This day — I decided to work the Belgium Beers. All the beers were very good and The Beer Market had the varieties my application was recommending. What is awesome is that you can order food from a neighboring restaurant and have it delivered to your table. Many times, I enjoy the atmosphere but do not want the pub food. This is a great place to pre-game before the Pirates go into action.(I may skip the game next time since it is on all their TVs).

The beer market is located within a few feet of PNC Park. This is a great place to come if you are looking for a wide variety of brews across numerous styles and countries. The majority of their beer is in bottles/can but don’t let that fool you, they have well over 40 or 50 beers on tap. You name the style and they have it. Some examples in bottles/cans include, IPA’s, Pale Ales, Pilsners, Bocks, Porters, Stouts, Hefeweizens, Witbiers… etc etc etc. The tap list also includes numerous styles. The list is always rotating. I have not had any issue with the cleanliness of the beer despite the quick turn-over. Which means they are cleaning their tap-lines appropriately. The breweries they have are just as varied as the styles. On this day it was 90 degrees plus with ample humidity so I was on a mission for light refreeshibg brews. I went with a personal favorite of Allagash White(White Wheat beer) and the better half went with Bell’s Oberon. As mentioned previously, this place does not serve food, but feel free to bring your own. In addition, the bartender has a ‘food menu’ where you can order food for delivery. If you are down by the stadium and need a couple brews, stop in here. You will not be disappointed. Prices are a tad higher than I would like to pay, but considering the location and the cost of beer in the stadium, this place is a bargain.

We stopped at the Beer Market before a Pirates Game a couple weeks ago. A few very nice things, they are in direct proximity to the ball park meaning quick access to the entry, the place is large and there was a nice draft blowing in from the opening, and the beer list is exquisite. No matter what your favorite poison is they are bound to have it or one of its brothers close enough to make you satisfied. For me it was Ballast Sculpin IPA. If I could, I would hoard barrels of it in my house. It was quite busy, as everywhere was, right before the start of the game so service was a little on the slow side, mostly because of how packed the place was. I think they needed more help as there were empty bottles and glasses everywhere. We nestled in on the left hand side near a stage to sip our brews. I think they are a bit pricey all in all, I mean $ 30 for four beers, eh a little steep. However I would definitely go back and I would really like to go when the place isn’t crawling with patrons.

This place was pretty cool. They had a huge bar area and spots where groups could sit together. I have never seen so many beers in one place! Literally hundreds of beers! The most beers on tap I’ve ever seen anywhere. They had glass door coolers lined up one after another all packed with bottled beers. We only stayed for one beer and didn’t eat but we had a positive experience. Decent prices. The bartender was friendly and attentive. If you want a bar with a huge selection of bottled and draught beer, this is the place.
