If you’re going to the Philip Pelusi in Ross Park mall, I VERYHIGHLY recommend asking for Darla. I am almost 28 years old and she is the only hair stylist that has ever given me exactly what I ask for and has gone above and beyond to do it. I’m mixed with tons of very thick, coarse hair that was was not in the best shape before seeing Darla for the first time about 4 years ago and my scalp has always been very sensitive to the relaxers most salons use. I don’t know how her arms don’t fall off after seeing me(an almost 3 hour visit), but after only having to describe my concerns one time, she only uses a specific sensitive relaxer and even takes the time to part my hair in tiny sections and put a protective coat of a gel on my scalp before even applying the relaxer! I had never been pain/burn free when getting this service done before until now and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate her extra efforts. She is also the only stylist to ever listen to my «smallest trim possible» request. My hair takes forever to grow and other stylists I saw in the past would always chop off any new growth I had with their definition of a trim. Darla knew that I was just looking for a clean up to get/keep my hair healthy without taking too much away from the length and did it exactly how I asked. This review probably seems excessive, but she’s awesome and well deserving of the praise. I moved almost an hour away from this location and refuse to go elsewhere! I would go to Darla for any service and you should too!

If Danielle moves to Hong Kong either I will pay for her to fly back every 6 weeks or I am moving to Hong Kong. There is a lot of turnover at the reception desk but the stylists have been there for years. It is a great group of people. Very upbeat environment. Highly recommend this location AND free parking. Great products and education about them — but no pushy salesmanship. It is expensive but I look at it as an investment in me …

Today was my 2nd visit to philip pelusi at ross park. I had an apt for 2pm. I arrived at 1:55 and was not taken back until 2:15. It was very busy but I was annoyed that I had to wait 15 min past my apt time. All I went in for was a trim, and my layers trimmed. The girl started cutting my hair but 10 min in, she left me to go color another womans hair. I couldnt believe it. So i sat there in the chair for 10−15min while she did that. She then came back to me and thankfully found someone else who was able to rinse this womans color out. I was happy that she wouldnt have to leave me yet again. Having the person leave mid cut has never happened to me at a hair salon. Having to wait over 15min past my apt time then having to wait again mid cut is unacceptable to me. The girl was apologetic, Im not sure if she was double booked or what happened but it definitely makes me not want to come back.

As a woman with naturally frizzy, curly, seriously unruly hair(I’ve been blowing it out for smoothness for basically my whole life), I’m a NERVOUSWRECK when it comes to haircuts. But BETHANY, oh, Bethany… she totally killed it and I/my hair/my ego are fabulous. I scheduled another appointment right there for 5 weeks from then for another trim and some color. I’ll follow back up on the new ‘do then! But so far what I can tell you for sure… Go to Bethany. She’s a boss mama.

I was in the salon on March 3, 2014. I recently moved to the Pittsburgh area and was looking for a great salon. Much to my disappointment I was very upset by the way I was treated. I had recently did box color on my VERY healthy hair and did not like the color I got. I wanted them to correct it, they stated that their color would not cover. But, they did take a sample of my hair and I waited approximately 15 minutes while they tested it. When I looked at the sample it look like my hair had never had any thing done to it as far as testing the hair color. The girl stated that their color did not work on my hair, she stated I needed to come back in six weeks to have it done. I have never been treated so rudely in any salon before. I left and went to another salon in the mall and they had no problem correcting my hair color. I am very disappointed and will never return to this salon. You only get one chance to form a good first impression and this salon failed miserably.

Overall, I was unhappy when leaving Philip Pelusi. But, looking back on it now, the experience is really what I expect from a place at the mall, and all I really wanted was a quick trim to get rid of some bad ends, and I got that. Key points: –The chairs are super uncomfortable. I don’t know if it was because I was short or what, but I wanted to rip out my spine by the time I was done. –The hair dressers look sloppy. If you look like you gave birth 3 days ago, do not wear a skin tight mini dress. You are a hair dresser, you should look good. And do your effing hair for H sake, I mean really… –My hairdresser kept ripping my head from side to side. I realize you need my head to be positioned a certain way, just ask me. –The lady at the front just pissed me off for some reason. No idea why, but she gave me bad vibes. All of that being said, I got a $ 34 shampoo, cut, and dry that wasn’t bad, nothing special, but it wasn’t bad. So, if you are at the mall and need a cut, I would still go for it. They seem experienced enough to do a good job, they are just bad at the whole«experience» thing. P. S. I have super long hair that some hairdressers have messed up a simple cut like this, so my hairdresser did have some talent even if my haircut was a simple trim.

Open on Sundays and fantastic service. I was very pleased with my experience here. I got a blowdry from Darla. She was great; asked me what I wanted and clearly had experience to ask good questions and apply what she heard from me. The entire staff was friendly. I felt the prices were quite reasonable, and they had me in and out in 45 minutes. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back next time I am in the area.

I went here for an impromptu eyebrow wax that was fairly uneventful(to the point where it didn’t even occur to me to Unilocal it), except for the fact that one week later, I got a follow-up call from the salon to ask me about the service and to make sure that I was happy with the quality. I was impressed, especially since I was just a walk-in. Nicely done, Philip Pelusi — if I wasn’t moving cross country in a few weeks, me and my eyebrows would be regular customers.
