Found My Goodies Bakery on a «Vegan Pittsburgh» list and contacted Deanna to find out more. We had a wedding reception/​party here in Pittsburgh after getting married in California and wanted a second vegan wedding cake. Deanna charges for cake tasting, but believe me it is worth it. We went home with enough cupcakes and cakes to eat for a week! We chose mint chocolate cake with chocolate frosting on the sides and cream cheese (soy cream cheese) frosting on the tops of the layers. Fantastic! All of our non-​vegan friends loved the cake and commented on not only the flavor and texture of the cake but the fact that the frosting was so delicious! Really, many the best frosting I have ever tasted! I also ordered gluten free cupcakes for a friend who is gluten intolerant, and she loved them! So anyone who is vegan, dairy intolerant, or gluten intolerant should really consider special ordering cakes or cupcakes for their special occasions.

My Goodies Bakery supplies awesome vegan, often gluten free, baked goods to various locations about town — including the Co-​Op, The Big Idea and local farmer’s markets. I think I first discovered My Goodies cinnamon buns at Quiet Storm, and have since been picking them up whenever possible at The Big Idea where they will warm it up for ya. Recently, I had the joyous excuse to order a custom cake. Deanna who owns and operates the business was really easy to work with, and she even delivered the cake! My birthday-​boy chose a lemon cake with almond icing, which I personally wasn’t totally jazzed about (no chocolate!?), but it turned out to be amongst the best cakes I’ve ever had. The cake itself was perfectly balanced — moist but not oily like some vegan cakes — with nice texture and flavor; just the right hint of lemon. And the almond icing was very complementary to the lemon. I’m always impressed by vegan icing that looks and tastes like normal frosting because mine always comes out looking like a bodily fluid. My party guests could not believe it was vegan; we were all impressed. Excited to order more cakes in the future. The future requires more cake.
