I was charged $ 9/well drink here. I can’t even wrap my head around that. $ 9 for a bottom shelf vodka grapefruit in a plastic cup. The waitress seemed pretty clueless that day, maybe she was new? That really bothered me. I’ve never spent $ 9 on a well drink anywhere in Pittsburgh! Not even Dish, Carmella’s, or Mezzo… Tater tots are good but way overpriced for what you get. The nachos are worth it. Atmosphere is pretty loud and crazy considering it’s next to the stadiums, but that’s a lot of fun during the game.

Went here today for lunch. Not an upscale place for food, didn’t expect high end choices. I had a turkey burger off the lunch menu($ 9 with tots, not bad). The burger was of poor quality, but what did i expect for 9 $? Toppings were good, seemed fresh and were plentiful. The bun was soggy when i got it so it made a horrible mess as i ate. Tots were great-as tots usually are. Overall, i didn’t expect much-and got sub par food, but thats ok. i came to hang with some work friends and have a good time. Our waitress was very nice and did a fine job and the atmosphere was good for what we wanted it for.

Terrible atmosphere. Go here if you want to hang out with rude bartenders and lame customers.

This is a must stop for Steeler Pre gaming. We started off with shots of fire ball then ordered the chicken nachos. So so good huge serving can feed at least 4 people. The wait staff was super friendly even though they were busy as heck. The drinks are reasonable priced for the area. They had a dj spinning tunes and enough tvs so that you won’t miss a single play. I love this place !!

Terrible! Has a weird smell… pretty much a dive bar. Big huge bar, it is about ¼ full and they are serving all drinks in plastic cups. I asked the waitress for a glass and she said when they are busy they use plastic. There are literally only 40 people in here and this place holds 200 easy. Beer tastes weird! I would recommend any where else

This place sucks! Apparently, you can’t watch the STEELER game because someone downstairs wants to watch the Cincinnati/San Diego game according to Bob the manager. He sucks and so does this place. I am here with a group of over 30 tailgaters. You’d think they would accommodate us since we’ve been giving them business for YEARS!

Good spot to grab a 3.00IC or IC Lite before a bucco game. Unlike, the other reviews our service was fast and our waitress was friendly and patient to the fact that we wanted to split our checks. Food was below average. I had a chicken wrap that had no flavor and dryer than dry chicken. I was pumped about ordering tots with my wrap, but they were not up to frozen tots standard from the grocery store. My wife enjoyed the fresh cut fries, but said her chicken sandwich was just ok.

Great venue before a Pirates game ! Service was friendly and fast. Food was just average at best. Great atmosphere and cold drinks, if you’re not eating, good choice.

This is our favorite pre-game location for Pirates games when we aren’t tailgating. Get the tots. And the sloppy joe. Service isn’t always fast, and the bathroom attendants are annoying. However, this is still the best food-booze-value combo near PNC on a Sunday.

I would only go here as a last resort before a game, and even then you’re probably better off buying food in the park, since I doubt it will cost much more. This place seems to excel in being perfectly mediocre. Portions were large and sloppy, food was poorly cooked, and oh my goodness was it expensive! Our check came to $ 36 for 2 burgers and 2 beers. Yikes! For what I payed the food was only slightly better than a McDonalds burger. Bland, tasteless, oh and they only cook it medium-well, so a nice rubber patty it is. I’ve honestly enjoyed a Wendys burger more than this slop. For $ 12 I’m expecting one hell of a burger, but this was one of the worst I’ve eaten in recent memory(including a trip to McDonalds). The only good thing I have to say is that the service was quick. In short, there are so many better places you can go for either the same or less amount of money. Mullen’s has 4 star prices and 2 star food. Benjamin’s, Wingharts, Burgatory, SharpEdge, and so many other local places offer so much more than this dump. Do yourself a favor and eat somewhere better.

I can’t speak to the food, I didn’t stay long enough to try it. Walked in and waited fifteen minutes for our drink order. Place the order another twenty minutes goes by still haven’t gotten a drink or been asked to order food. Ended up leaving then. The place was basically empty so there was just no reason for such awful service.

If it would allow me to not give any stars I would. Visited today after the noon lunch rush, and the place was empty. Only table in the restaurant actually. The server gave me coffee that was likely days old, no spoon, and the cooks burned the roll and still served it. Just disgusting. another person in the party ordered one item received another and the other one didn’t get all of the order… The waitress proceeded to deliver our checks and not clear the plates… Crappy service and Food was gross!!! Never again… If you don’t want to work and do a good job… GOHOME!!!

Came here at an odd time which was kind of amazing. We had no wait, which meant quick service, which led to a very satisfied and happy customer. Mullen’s sits in a very nice and convienent spot that benefits from game day traffic. Caddy corner from PNC Park they are sure to get ample customers during home games for the Pirates and I’m sure they get some for Steeler games as well. Good thing since this is mostly a sports bar. When you walk in, it looks massive. Huge wide open floor plan only made bigger by adding a second floor area for more seating that overlooks the main floor. Ample bar seating for a big crowd in here. We opted for the seats at the bar right next to the door. Greeted right away, ordered our drinks and looked over the menu. The food is basic sports bar fare(you can read that as ‘can be eaten with your hands’). I opted for their signature burger which is called ‘The Moon Burger.’ Now wait a minute, it’s nothing special, at least not to me. And it is definitely not something you would call signature. See, it’s really just a bacon cheddar burger. Not sure what exactly is signature about it? But I will say it did taste great, but I am also going to assume that the same burger patty is used on all other burgers made here(which you can make your own combination). The patty itself was big, filled, if not overfilled the bun. The cheese covered the whole patty and the bacon(what can I say about bacon that hasn’t already been said?). Typical toppings, condiments on the side. Comes with fries, but the thing I love about this place is you can change the ordinary fries out for sweet potato fries or tater tots with no additional fee, bonus! My friend got a basic cheese quesadilla and an order of their nachos. I think it is safe to say that she could have just stuck with the nachos. They are on the appetizers menu but could have easily been a meal for one person. Beer selection is pretty good. They have their fair share of IPAs and regular drafts. *I guess the lesson you learn while reading these reviews is that it all depends on the time you show up here.*

While on a geocaching spree with my bestie, I started to get hunger pangs on a hot summer day and thought I was going to pass out so we stopped in Mullens for some sustenance. The place was nearly empty except for a couple seated at a table and the employees. We decided to sit at the bar and each selected a seasonal brew from their limited, yet delicious draft offerings. As a vegetarian, I had very few selections to choose from. I was limited to pizza, salad and appetizers. I opted for a cheese quesadilla and nachos. The ‘dilla consisted of cheese with a teaspoon each of guacamole and sour cream. The nacho platter was ginormous and piled high, enough for 3 people. Mr. Sloppy ordered a burger with tots which he thought was delicious. The food came out fast and our bartender/waiter was friendly and attentive. I could imagine this place busy before or after a Buccos game because of Mullen’s convenient location, right across the street from Heinz Field. truth be told, I would rather tailgate and order nachos from the stadium… Who can resist that? With Mullen’s jacked up prices, you might as well enjoy the whole ballgame experience

Since I’m running out of fresh places to Unilocal on the North Shore, Kay and I decided to stop at Mullen’s before catching Volbeat, «our» band if you will, at Stage AE recently and were as disenchanted as much as any of the other reviewers who wrote of this lackluster establishment. We had no problems with our server or the service she provided. She was friendly and competent enough, and we didn’t feel that her attire was any more inappropriate that what you see women jogging down the street in these days. However, the food was below outstanding. It was obvious that the tater tots that seconded my Shrimp Po’ Boy were frozen prior to being cooked. I suppose I shouldn’t have expected them to have been made from scratch. My Shrimp Po’ Boy was neither terrible nor amazing. The spongy roll was cold, the condiment was some sort of so-called«spicy» mayonnaise that tasted more like a moribund Russian dressing, but the shrimp itself was portly, tempura-battered, deep-fried sublimity. I should have asked ‘em to scrap the bun and the shredded lettuce. The tomato cuts were welcome to stay, though. We arrived around 5:30PM or so, and the joint was deader than a housefly in a cobweb. As we averted our gazes upward at the lonely mirror ball on the ceiling, we felt as if we’d been invited to a party that no one else showed up to. Being the only diners in the house that evening felt awkward, and that usually doesn’t happen to us under such circumstances. It seemed as if we were in an olden, haunted bar that had long since closed. Was our server a ghost? Nah, she was too cute and down to earth. Nonetheless, Mullen’s left us… sullen. Thankfully, Denmark’s favorite metal outlaws picked up our spirits… P. S. Mullen’s is a chain with another location in Pittsburgh’s South Side and four more in Chicago with differing menus for each satellite. The entire line of restaurants is named after a police officer who was paralyzed in the line of duty 18 years ago.

This bar is so close to PNC Park and the beers are much cheaper! We were drinking $ 3& $ 4 beers with some apps here rather than the $ 8 – 10 beers in the stadium! We were able to get a table right away and the service was great, even right before the game. My only problem was that every waittress was walking around either in skin-tight, just about see-through spandex or shorts that were SO short, you could see their butts. Not what I want to see around my food, but maybe that’s just me.

One of the greatest things about Pittsburgh is its love for tater tots. I wish I could walk into a bar in my hometown and order tots. Really, I do. I know they’re just fancified french fries but damn those things are delicious. Although this place got ripped for its food in most reviews, we didn’t find it bad. The loaded tots were amaaaazing and I could have ate like 3 plates of that alone. We also went with the buffalo chicken dip which was pretty bland HOWEVER we saw a local putting hot sauce on it and so we copied. Once we did that, it took it from drab to fab, for reals. It was soooo good and actually tasted exactly like buffalo chicken. The food was a strong 4 star for us. On to the drinks: my captain and cokes were weak and the beer list wasn’t impressive, so on the drink front I’d give it 2 – 3 stars. Service was okay, but wasn’t overly fantastic. Mullen’s is a decent pre-gaming stop if you’re on your way to the game, although don’t expect to get drunk if you’re ordering anything with hard liquor.
