After walking out of another chain hair cut place that was supposedly tailored to men disappointed — I said enough is enough. Boy am I glad I rolled the dice on this place. It’s tucked back deep in the shopping center that contains Citizens bank, Dukes, and Max and Ermas. Very cool old school style shop, and Tom is extremely friendly and talented. The shop itself is small and contains two restored old-school barber chairs circa 1950s/60s. He actually took the time and paid attention to details — as many of you may know, details definitely make the difference. At the end of the haircut, I was surprised when he lathered my neck with warm shaving cream and shaved my neck with a straight blade razor — excellent touch. He then followed that up with wiping down my neck and steaming my head with a hot towel. Just FINALLY being able to get a great quality haircut would have earned 5 stars, let alone all the little touches that made this such a great experience. The low cost was definitely icing on the cake — just be sure to bring cash instead of card. There is a citizens bank right out front, so that made it easy as I did not know this.

I’ve been in Pittsburgh for 9 years and have been searching for someone who knows how to craft the perfect flat top. My search ended when I walked into Tom’s shop. Tom’s a friendly barber who’s a perfectionist. I’m very happy with my cut and will be back in a few weeks! In the meantime, I plan on bringing my three year old to see how he does in the chair!

I’ve been searching for years to find a barber who could actually do a perfect flat top. My search ended with a trip to the Manor Oak Barber Shop this past Saturday. Upon walking in the door, I was greeted with a big hello by the owner, Tom Grove. I waited while the two people in front of me had their hair cut by Tom and was really impressed by the friendly conversation that was going on between barber & customer. When it was my turn to hop in the chair, I was greeted by a big welcoming handshake from Tom. I was quite apprehensive as Tom started to cut my hair, especially since I had no idea whether his claim of being a master flat top artist was true or not. But my fears faded as I watched him work — he really did know how to mold a great flat top. I told him that I wanted my head to look completely square and that’s exactly what I got(plus, he did it completely free hand!) The shop is a throwback to the shops of yesteryear, friendly, inexpensive and a barber who truly knows his craft. By the way, Tom still shaves the back of your neck with a straight razor and, get this, you get hot towels on your face to top off the experience. if you’re in the area and in need of a haircut, do yourself a favor and stop in to see Tom at the Manor Oak Barber Shop. You won’t be sorry.
