Have passed this place dozens of times without even knowing it was there. Saw it listed on Unilocal and realized that I needed to check it out. It’s a hidden treasure and it was a fun Saturday afternoon with my boyfriend. It’s sparsely decorated, mostly just some paintings for sale, and mason jar lights overhead. The bar is open so you can see the bartenders making your drinks with fresh ingredients and can see the copper stills and some barrels in the background. I like that it was comfortable and that they just built this little bar into their distillery. It had a relaxing but industrial feel. The drinks were delicious and cheap. Definitely a better deal than just going to a bar. My boyfriend and I each got 2 drinks. The Painkiller was made with a coconut cream and it was creamy and delicious. The Zombie was citrusy and for having three kinds of rum, was strong but still tasted really good. They limit you to 2! Unlike some reviewers, I thought the bartenders were friendly and the one talked to me about the different kind of rum and gave me some samples. I thought their spiced rum was really smooth and the best spiced rum I’ve had. We loved the Queen’s share label, which the bartender explained is made by redistilling the tails from the first batch. They had aged and unaged of that. I didn’t buy a bottle on this trip but can’t wait to introduce friends to it and will definitely buy one soon.

Met a friend here for a drink last night before dinner. The place smells delicious from all the rum! The cocktails are very reasonable priced. Most were $ 7 and one was $ 9 and $ 12. You get a free sampling of all their runs if you order a cocktail otherwise it’s $ 5. The cocktails all sounded amazing although there are only around 5 to choose from. They also don’t serve food. It’s a very laid back place with a decent amount of seating for how small it is. It’s between the Strip District and Lawrenceville but, if you don’t mind walking 5 – 10 min you can walk to the restaurants in Lawrenceville to eat. We walked to Senti after. You will most likely have to park a block or two away because there are only like 3 spots right in front of the building.

I love this place! From the outside you would have no idea what is in store inside. You think you’re going into a sketchy warehouse when in fact, you open the doors to a distillery and bar inside. When sitting at the bar, you can see the barrels and rum being made right in front of you. It’s a very open feel as the bar tenders are serving you but can just turn to walk back into the distillery area as well. You can sit at the bar filled with stools, there are a few booths, or some higher tables toward the back. Anytime i’ve gone it’s been pretty empty inside and never crowded. It’s always been the same two people behind the bar and they know a ton about making drinks and we’re open to conversation. Side note, I don’t even like rum… But this place changed my heart. My favorite drink now is their white Haitian. It’s made with coffee liquor, white rum, and cream(I believe). Whatever it is, it’s amazing. Also their drinks are not very expensive as most of them are $ 7 … and a few $ 10. Again, love this place and its relaxed vibe. The only downside is that you can only get cocktails on Fridays and Saturdays. I wish they were open all week.

Maggie’s Farm Rum! This place has been open for two years and I haven’t been here until now?! Boy have I been missing out! If I hadn’t come here with a couple of friends, I probably never would have been able to find it. There’s not a lot of signage pointing it out! This kind of adds to the overall vibe of the bar, though. It is not extensively decorated, and seems pretty open and basic. That was really okay with me though… because the cocktails speak for themselves! Rum is one of my favorite liquors, and Maggie’s did not disappoint. I ordered the White Haitian, which has Maggie’s Farm White Rum along with house-made coffee liqueur and cream. Oh. My. GOSH. It was so good! None of the flavors were too overpowering, and it seriously tasted like coffee-rum-heaven in a glass. I drank it down and ordered another one post haste. One of my friends ordered the Hot Buttered Cider and let me try it, which was also fantastic. This was a hot drink that came in a small coffee mug made with the Maggie’s Spiced Rum. It was really tasty, although the White Haitian remains my favorite. Overall I’m extremely impressed with Maggie’s Farm Rum. The owners were very talkative and fun, and the drinks were so delicious(and well-priced)! I’m looking forward to coming back again very soon.

Stopped in to taste — had a sip of everything, including the high proof and the dark rum aged in rye barrels. All delicious! Can’t wait to go back and try some cocktails. Brought home a bottle of light rum and made an El Presidente.

Pittsburgh, you are just so awesome. I love how your bars are full on any given Saturday afternoon. Even at a place with tropical style drinks. In the fall. And Maggie, your farm… it is wonderful. Delicious cocktails made with fresh fruit juices and rum that is distilled right there in house. There is a drink called the Zombie that is guaranteed to turn you into a walking, talking dead person if you drink it really fast(which is easy to do) and it’s only 10 bucks. They even limit you at 2. But you honestly don’t even need more than one to get super smily. There’s no food here, so be cautious of that. And the place isn’t easy to find at first glance on Smallman Street, but keep looking, because this is a gem worth discovering.

Wahhh. I was stoked to try Maggie’s Farm Rum when I was in Pittsburgh a few weekends ago. I’d heard their rum was stellar and their cocktails were good too. I’m also generally a fan of anyone trying to do something different or unexpected, and I’d classify this under those categories. My friends and I headed in on a weekend afternoon ready to sample some rum. We were the only people in the distillery and bought a tasting each to try. The rums were pretty good and I am not a big rum fan. However the customer service was awful, we tried asking questions about the rum and making conversation and we were completely ignored, it made us feel super uncomfortable and unwelcome. I hear ya if you’re having a bad day, but then you should be careful in a people facing role especially at an up and coming distillery. I am not excited to come back because honestly I was turned off after this experience, this is sad because the rum was good and my dark and stormy was pretty damn tasty as well.

Maggie’s Farm has given me a huge appreciation for rum. If you want to learn the reason its worth paying more for the good stuff stop in for your tasting! Because they aren’t a bar they only use their own ingredients. Sometimes they have to get creative to make their own version of traditional cocktails. If you like sweet drinks start with the pain killer. It’s their take on a piña colada. It’s tops. They also have seasonal drinks that change. The staff is also knowledgeable. They can give you a tour of flavors in the rum process. It’s also a beautiful location, once you get inside. Don’t let the warehouse outside stop you from coming in! The long copper bar is rich and inviting. So pull up a barstool!

Awesome drinks, chilled out atmosphere. Absolutely love the place. I was not blown away by the friendliness of the bartender/owner? But I will be back for decently priced cocktails and a nice place to have a conversation with friends.

awesome drinks! The venue is simple but bars don’t need much other than fantastic cocktails if you ask me.

I AMON A HAPPYISLANDINTHEMIDDLEOFTHESTRIPDISTRICT! Hi My Loves! I came here after a stellar photo shoot in the strip one weekend this summer. It was a hot sunny day, great for photos and the fates were on my side! I did some superb rust shots of a train bridge(shameless self promotion — check out my blog for the«Rusty Love» photo from the shoot). I was warm after and THANKYOUFELLOW UnilocalWRITERS, I realized I was mere blocks from Maggie’s for something to cool off with! I’m calling this summer, «2015: The Summer of Rum» or I’ve really enjoyed drinking my way through town when I get the chance! So, probably a tiny biological mistake to start drinking on an empty tummy but man the drinks were incredible. I had Rockaway Beach(take on a classic Manhattan) so perfect! Followed by The Painkiller which was tropical and girly with pineapple, orange juice, rum and coconut cream — I could have had 20! Then I did a rum tasting… The Queen’s Share, which I don’t even think you can get a bottle of anymore, was to die for. If I can remember correctly it was aged in old Wigle barrels = DIVINE! The bartender was willing to share homemade drink recipes and she even had a «RUMPGH» t shirt. Freaking Hip… putting me — uptown girl Christie Brinkley 20+ pounds heavy — to shame! ;) I was toasted and bought a bunch of product and have been recreating the drinks at home. I will totally go back with ANYONE — LITERALLYANYONE — that asks! *The Key: Creative people making creative recipes and reinventing old standards! This is creativity at its finest. Not to mention Pittsburgh is blossoming into an incredible food and drink destination. Love you… you booze hound! Muah

Decent cocktails but having an option to sample different rums with a mixer should definitely be an option… I’ve been to numerous distilleries which offer a mixer on the side. The service was horrible– very rude and no one offered to tell us about the distillery. This was very disappointing as we were trying to ask about the distillery events and its history but bartenders were not making eye contact, and it was not a busy day.

The only reason I can’t give 5 stars is the parking… There is none close. Still, a few blocks down on smallman isn’t too bad of a stroll through the warehouse district. The distillery is awesome, the copper stills and the barrels right in front of you while you sit at the bar is a very cool look. The rum is some of the best I’ve had. The drinks are all excellent. I had the pain killer and could have easily downed a gallon of it! Very cool spot with a load of potential

There’s barely anything more to explain than: They have killer rum, killer cocktails, and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable. Seriously. The pain killer is probably the best drink they offer, if you’re needing something more sweet. We originally stopped on a weds after driving past the hand painted«rum for sale» sign. It was intriguing and I couldn’t help myself. They let us try everything they made, told us to come back on a friday or saturday for cocktail hour. We complied. There were no regrets. It was AMAZING. I’ve been back 3 – 4 times now. I would recommend anyone to go in there, get a small history lesson on rum, and drink your ass off. OH! They do NOT have any food, but you are welcome to bring your own.

This place is a gem that’s off the beaten path. Tucked away near the 33rd St Bridge, Maggie’s Farm Rum sits in a shelled out warehouse building with a very unassuming ambience, fit to put all it’s reputation on the drinks. They make their own rum in the back(which was surprisingly good) and give ample attention to the drink making process. Plus when your bartender is Lucky the Painproof Man and drinks are $ 7 – 9, who can complain!

40 minutes to order 4 drinks? This pains me to do it, but after our most recent visit to Maggie’s I may of lost my faith. Decided to bring a few friends here after a great last experience, but unfortunately, we left with nothing but a sour taste. The drinks were still good, but the preferential treatment of the bar’s friends(who came in long after us) wasn’t. It seemed like the bar was overworked, but when you have 2 people covering ~25, it didn’t seem unreasonable. On a positive note, their Queens Share Rum is truly delicious(evidenced by their NY Spirits Competition medal). Next time I’ll just buy a bottle and make the drinks myself!

Simply the best rum I’ve had! It’s smooth, clean, and subtly sweet. Maggie’s white rum goes into every rum cocktail I make and it never ceases to amaze. The spiced rum is different than what you’ll find from the National brands. Spiced with flavors of clove and cinnamon, it’s more deep and earthy than your typical Captain Morgan. This hidden-in-plain-sight warehouse is warm and cozy with an industrial edge. Don’t just sample the rum, but have a few of the creative, handmade cocktails… many with house-made ingredients like coffee liqueur. Can’t go wrong for $ 7. MFR…is there a black rum in the works? That would be killer!

I’ve learned that if you drive by what looks like a warehouse with closed doors, textured windows and a sign outside that says«RUMFORSALE», you stop the car and go inside. In the case of Maggie’s Farm Rum, you will find some tables, a bar and some tasty locally distilled rums inside. I recommend sitting at the bar where your view will include the still and any cocktail making. While you’re there, order a cocktail from their menu. The menu does change but their tasting/cocktail menu is diverse. Cocktail hours are very limited, though, so be sure to call ahead or check their website.(Bottle sales are more often.) It goes without saying that I’m happy to find more Pittsburgh-born alcohol. I’ve been enjoying the local breweries but it’s nice to mix things up with some spirits now and again.

Been here a few times to try the rum and to indulge in some serious cocktails. Not only is the rum delicious and locally sourced, but they make some of the best cocktails in Pittsburgh! I have tried many, but the painkiller is truly out of this world! They also change the cocktails depending on the freshness of the ingredients so there is always something new to try.

The rum is good. The bar was cool. Bartender was super knowledgeable and friendly. The drinks were veryyyyy tasty and only $ 6. It’s a little out of the way, but worth the trip over.
