I came to Forbes Jewelry to have a watch battery replaced. I was afraid it might be quite expensive, but it was only $ 7.50. The person who waited on me was very polite and helpful, and the whole process was very quick – less than five minutes.

I advise not to go here. I was taking my time looking at rings and the lady accused me of taking pictures of her jewlery because i was holding my hair back from my eyes. I had no phone or camera. She gave me 10 minutes before telling me that if i wasn’t going to buy anything, that she didn’t have time for me and i had to leave. Anyone else think that it takes time to pick out such a gift? There are so many better places all along forbes and Murray.

Do NOT patronize this business unless you want to be treated poorly and condescended to. There are much better jewelry store options in the Pittsburgh area — actually, on this city block alone! Others may chalk it up to a «language or cultural barrier,» but as I see it, customer service is customer service. The owners here were confrontational and completely rude.

I absolutely LOVE this store! I love the uniqueness of it. You can’t find jewerly like this in commercial-type stores. I definitely think the other reviewer had a language barrier/cultural differences. My experiences were flawless and can’t wait to get the chance to go back.

Despite the other reviewer’s experiences here, I’m going to give it four stars. Why? Well my sister and I(I’m 22, she’s 16) don’t wear jewelry a lot due to us being young and being paranoid of losing stuff. So therefore we don’t want super expensive stuff. The woman in here owns this place with her husband… they’re a couple from Russia, I believe… and they are toootally willing to haggle prices with you. I haggled her down to $ 40something for a set of real pearl earrings. My sister buys all of her pearl earrings here too. You might think she’s rude or something but I think it’s just due to English not being her first language. I have noticed a lot of foreigners shop here too and speaking in mixtures of Russian/English.(or maybe she’s Ukranian? Sorry I can’t tell the difference, the languages are very similar to my untrained ears.) Anyway, if you have a thick skin, like to haggle, go in here. If not, go elsewhere. There are lots of other decent jewelry shops in town!

The woman who works here has to be one of the snootiest people I have ever met. I brought my handmade engagement ring in to be sized down and she proceeded to rip it apart with the following comments: «did you lose weight or did he get it wrong?» «this is crooked, don’t blame it on us» «are you sure this is real gold?» «what kind of ring wouldn’t have a stamp?» She then literally sniffed her nose at it and handed it back to me saying there was nothing she could do. I felt like crying – it’s my engagement ring for crissakes! So don’t go here unless you are equally snooty about jewelry. Go across the street to Orr’s Jewelers instead.
