This place came up on my radar as having a good array of wines to try. So after checking out their web site I went out on my lunch break to pick up a bottle. I got to the 20th block of Penn and didn’t see a sign for it anywhere. The address I had was 2022 Penn but that’s the address for Enrico Biscotti Café’… who would have thought that Carlos Garage Winery occupies just a little corner of the Café? But it does. I asked for a bottle of the Spaghetti Red and was a little shocked when the lady who was taking care of me said, «That’ll be $ 25.00». The listed price on their web site priced it at $ 12.00. When I mentioned this to her and showed her the site on my phone, she told me that the prices have recently gone up but that she would honor the price quoted on the site. She was very nice about it and kindly charged me only $ 12. I’m not sure what my rating will be after I get a chance to try the wine and I’m open to changing it based on the quality of the product. But as for now, I’m giving it just three stars for the erroneous pricing on their web site and for not having any sense of signage displaying that Carlos Garage Winery is located inside Enrico Biscotti Café’. If I hadn’t known the address and ventured into the café, I would have never of found the place. *** Side Note: I really need to do lunch at Enrico Biscotti Café’ sometime. From what I saw during this visit, the atmosphere seems very quaint and what I imagine a southern European café would resemble and the food on the plates sure looked yummy.

Discovered this place by accident about a year ago. Now it is a must visit on my trips to Pburg. On my most recent visit, missed the wonderful food, as we arrived right at 3:00 — closing time. But did share a bottle of cab with my friend and savored reading the menu and what we might have had if we had remembered the hours. The staff is alway friendly and took time to share with us the Sunday bread baking class and the first and last Friday of the month dinners. I hesitate to say to much as I don’t want to give up my wonderful secret. Sitting outside int he narrow walkway you will see many people pass by without noticing this gem. I sort of want to keep it that way.

a month in pittsburgh and i’m still getting used to not being able to walk into my local grocery store to pick up the essentials… beer and wine. 4 weeks. 4 weeks! i was down on my luck, desperate… i was wineless. as i was wandering through the strip district i felt a little chill go up my spine. i just knew i was close to something special. i whipped my head around and saw a beautiful sign, «We Sell Wine». inside ‘the enrico biscotti café’ is carlo’s garage winery, the first of it’s kind in pittsburgh. an urban winery. we did a wine tasting of their three blends. i’m usually a red kinda girl, but man oh man, their white blend was yummy! the real treat though is the owner, larry. we ended up chatting with him for at least 20 min as we did our tasting. he was just a dear and reason enough to go back. very charming guy… and he knows his wines ;)
