Don’t go there! Every minute counts. If you have to go to the restroom beforehand– that will count into your massage time, even if there is no customer waiting after you. Changing counts into your massage time. Getting water counts. Basically to get your full paid massage time, come 30 minutes earlier as the clock starts ticking the moment you step in. That alone is extremely unrelaxing. Not worth it.

I’m a little concerned about the Unilocal veracity… I was shocked by the low rating and realized that most decent ratings other than my own were«hidden» and«low value». Rest assured, I’ve been utilzing BR&BW since 1995, usually at the last moment and everyone is kind, well trained and worth experiencing. In addition, it’s professional and friendly. You cannot go wrong.

Absolutely terrible. The guy who appeared to be answering the phones(the receptionist? The manager? He looked about 14) did my massage. It was like being poked with a stick for 30 minutes. I actually started laughing at one point it was so absurd. You know when you finally convince your spouse to give you a massage, and they do, and you’re like, «never mind.» This was like that, except it wasn’t free, and while I probably should have gotten up halfway through, I didn’t want to be rude, so I suffered through it. Thank goodness for the wine that followed — much more relaxing! Avoid this place. There are plenty of other options in the area(one about 3 doors down). Don’t be sucked in by the relatively low prices. You get what you pay for. No, I take that back. You get far less than you pay for.

Under new management spelled disaster on my last visit to backrubs and bodyworks. I previously enjoyed getting the hot stone treatments here. Since they have changed management they have also started doing their hot stone massage all together different then what I was use too. Currently the«Hot Stone Massage» only uses the actually hot stones for the last 20 minutes of the session. This was such a let down. The woman who gave me the massage was very rough and rubbed everything but the kitchen sink on my back!!! Nothing about this was relaxing I was more stressed afterward than I had been before. One thing that boils my blood is when the manager of an establishment tells me something is «too expensive» I never know if its racism, sexism, classism or ageism, that would make them say a thing like this to me. After suffering through a brutal massage I went over to a display of aromatherapy I wanted to purchase a bottle. Instead of assisting me, the manager said«those are too expensive.» Needless to say Backrubs and Bodyworks has forever lost me as a customer. When I exited Backrubs and Bodyworks the security guard at the front desk said very ignorantly.“I don’t know why any one would want to do that, it’s a waste of money.” Harassment from security guards and being talked down to by the manager was enough to have me in near tears. This all happened in June my last visit was a birthday gift from my boyfriend. I wanted to appear as thankful for him treating me to this massage, but I broke down when I got home and told him what a horrible massage I had. No worriers though for Christmas I got a gift certificate for Massage Envy.

Like an oasis of comfort in an urban jungle, Backrubs will smooth you out after a hard-working, heavy-lifting day(i.e. sitting on your ass, pounding a keyboard and talking on the phone). There is something quite serene about having one of their talented masseuses give you a 20 minute chair massage while the buses, cars, and pedestrians jockey for position on the street below. The fact that Backrubs is on the 2nd floor of the Clark building with windows looking out over Smithfield and Fifth somehow only adds to the pleasure. Like somehow, you’re above all that craziness(literally, you are!) These guys are professional, courteous and know what they’re doing. They offer a nice facility in a just-somewhat-nice building. If you’re in town, definitely stop by. Prices are fairly typical for a professional massage(about $ 1 per minute).
