I purchased some sunglasses here over the weekend and wasn’t very thrilled with the service we received. Whenever I asked to see some sunglasses the girl that helped us was not friendly at all. She acted like it was an inconvenience to have to take glasses out of their LOCKED display case. I’m so sorry for making you do your job, how rude of me. I won’t do it again, I promise. –_– I settled on a pair I liked, mainly because I just wanted to get the heck out of there. Whenever we handed the glasses off to the employee, a male employee came up and started cleaning them off. This would be taken as a nice gesture, if the dude wasn’t completely SCOWLING the entire time. Whoa bro, chill out, your enthusiasm is going to knock me off my feet. Really. My job can be a drag sometimes too, but you work in CUSTOMERSERVICE. Slap a fake smile on your face and act like you adore me. Hell, you don’t even have to say anything, just smile and look APPROACHABLE. You would have thought these two people just had their puppies stolen or something, they were insanely unfriendly. Other than that, the store is okay. It is a bit cramped to walk in, and the prices are a bit high, but that is expected. I would recommend if you are looking for some sandals sunglasses, just don’t expect friendly service.

I sign my son up for the surfing lessons he’s an 8 year old, I was completely shocked how safety was an issue. The first day I only stayed for an hour and a half because of a prior appointment and father was to pick him up. Second day I was there I was a little disturbed at how the two instructors were not giving full instruction, allowed the seven and eight year old just to play about in the ocean, and the lack of someone being able to retrieve a child if they were drowning. I realize that they’re not there to be parents. However, someone needs to make sure that safety is implemented for these children. At that point I no longer left my child with them. There were six kids to two instructors. Not enough instructors. Then, as I’m getting a little frustrated at the lax a daisy attitude that they had with these children and giving them instruction and staying on top of each child was the two surfers grabbed surfboards from two kids that were taking a break and went out and caught waves. They were surfing for a good 20 minutes both of them! Not right I complained to the city of Pismo because this was not a safe situation for those kids. The third day, I can only assume that it would get better because of three parents complaining about the situation in the safety factor. Due to that one of the children dropped out leaving a five to one ratio which is required by Moondoggies. I was beside myself to see one instructor with five kids. Not enough especially with rough waters. Needless to say, I will never sign my kid up for their surf camp again. The instructor on the final day, rocky, he did a much better job at staying with the instruction for the kids. Also had help from my son’s father. Really need to cut the kids in half to 3 to 1 ratio to be safe. They’re going to have a lawsuit one of these days

I had an exchange of a Xmas gift from loved one out of town. Went to exchange knowing it was past the 14 day policy. Exact pants were still on shelf at full price for $ 56. I wanted to exchange the pants that I paid $ 56 and shirt that I paid $ 36 for a pair of flip flops that were $ 52. I did not ask for cash back and was willing to take a $ 40 loss. I am a local and spent probably over $ 1,000 there at Christmas and even more throughout the year in San Luis as well. They called manager and would not make any compromises. I will take my business to Panchos or elsewhere. I feel it was unreasonable especially because the same damn pants were still on the rack at full price. It was BS, I guess they have enough tourist business they don’t need us locals.

I have been going to Moondoggies for years when I am down surfing in this area. I really like this place, however, they ran unauthorized charges on my credit card that I discovered the following week. All this leading to a headache, investigation, and all that comes with a new credit card being issued, etc. Heed this warning, best off using cash.

I’m not a pro-surfer, but surfing and the beach is a hobby shared amongst my friends and I. But I happened to be down in Pismo for ATVing for another friends bday, although they don’t surf the day after I still wanted to try it out since we were so close to the water. I had never done any surf related activities outside and away from my «surfer friends.» So I was a bit nervous about what to do, but it was cool because to these friends I was the«most experienced» surfer, I basked in their awe and amazement as I told them I could surf– my definition was really just– stand up and be able to stay up!- That still counts right?! haha Anyways.this place was sorta far away from the beach. My one friend– who I convinced to try surfing for her first time– had to walk quite a while to get to Moondoggies. And then! we had to walk back of course but holding giant boards and a wet suit. As you can imagine 2 small, short Filipino girls walking back to the beach with a giant longboard, barely in hand, more than TWICE their height and a wet suit dragging along also… quite the challenge! Wish Moondoggies had curbside service… When we got to the place it was the typical surfer-ish kind of store with the usual beach ware attire and brands throughout the store. The staff were really friendly. And it was such a good deal! $ 22 total to rent a soft tip board and a wet suit. I called all the other places and this was the best deal out of all of them. They were also really nice and let us extend the time to return everything the following morning. That day the waves were small so didn’t get much. But the other surfers in the water were real cool If you’re looking for a place to rent definitely check this place out. As for my own surf skills, well… it’s still in the works! lol «Keep summer alive!»(Total sidebuster and PR move, but check out my friend’ website if you enjoy the surf you’ll love the site and everything else =)

This place has the best priced rentals in the area. It’s $ 6/hr but for 4 hours it’s $ 13 so you basically get 2 more hours for $ 1. And the people who helped me were nice. I don’t think I’d actually buy anything in the store because it’s expensive, but as far as rentals go, this would be the place to go to.

The first time I came here was for a private lesson my bf got for us and this past weekend I came back again to rent surfboard and a wetsuit. The first time I was there you could rent a wetsuit for $ 1 per hour and $ 6 for a surfboard. They’ve changed their prices and now it’s a $ 18 combo for both for 4 hours so the price has definitely gone up, however they have gotten new wetsuits, although they tend really big and so my suit was super baggy. They also don’t allow you to change once you’ve been in the water and you have to make sure that there isn’t any sand on the wetsuit which is sort of annoying. I plan on getting my own wetsuit eventually so I won’t have to worry about wearing something that someone else has but I will still use them for surfboards.

I’m just learning to surf so I got a lesson for me and my girlfriend here back in September. It was $ 60 or $ 70 for a private one hour lesson with rental of wetsuit and board, plus an additional hour with the rented equipment after the lesson was over. The instructor(can’t remember his name) was really good. He was very encouraging to both of us and did a great job of telling us in a constructive way what we were doing wrong. We were both able to get up and surf a wave at least a few times in that first hour. They let us change in the dressing room and leave our bags behind the counter, which was nice. I have been back two or three times since then to rent a board. The wetsuits are around $ 1−2/hr and the boards are $ 4/hr. Granted, I haven’t rented from any other shop in the area, but I’ve been pleased with what I’ve seen at Moondoggies.

Wide variety of items for sale including boars, clothes, shoes, hats stickers and what not. Everything you’d expect from a surf shop including rentals. The thing with the mom and pop shops is that the prices aren’t always the best and you aren’t always going to find the best deal but what you will get is great, friendly service. The employees were courteous, warm and fun. I’ll probably stop by here after Splash or Mo’s whenever it is I am in town.

Awsome store. Pismo always carry styles I can’t find locally around my area so I always buy something from here. Moondoggies carries the sickest sweaters, jackets, and shoes.

AWESOME line of clothes. I bought the best purse here by Volcom. Love it. Everything is pretty expensive, it would be hard to find anything under $ 50. I thought it was weird that there would be someone that sort of watched everything I did while I was in there, like they were shoplift-watching. I guess that’s understandable, but come on! Everything in moderation!

* * * * * For their customer service. It was our last stop of the day and I am exhausted, I have my 2 year old lying comatose on me, and I STILL hadn’t bought me anything. They have cute, simple clothes here. They always have a clearance rack. But the main thing that stands out is their customer service. These girls(and one guy) we’re very friendly, helpful, and pretty. Not that pretty constitutes as good customer service, but it’s nice to look at.
