Very enjoyable sports bar with a real local vibe. Very good burger, chili, onion rings. Attentive, friendly service. Tip: we ate from roughly 6 – 7:30. The place was getting louder and more crowded as we left. So plan your visit earlier or later, depending on what suits you.

Absolutely some of the worst bartender’s ever! Only two out of four though. Food is real good pub fare except the Reuben, which is basically a sour kraut sandwich. Take it from someone from NY, this falls way short of the mark. The roasted garlic, clam and mushroom soup is absolutely the best soup I have ever had. I have high blood pressure but when I go there I always have two cups, even though I know it’s not for me. It’s that good! Maxie is the best as well as the locals. Great folks, good time and almost all of the food is worth it. Don’t miss this place if you are in town playing the best golf in the world!

Terrible service. Staff ignores the guest’s and aren’t very friendly. Bad food that is way overpriced. $ 10 for a sandwich that doesn’t include a side item. C’mon! Much better options in Pinehurst!

This place wasn’t too good… Took 59 mins to get our food… They gave me woodford reserve for a bourbon & diet. Nor complaining however I was expecting a $ 4 drink instead of an $ 8. The food was above average but it took way too long to get & it wasn’t enough food for the $. Skip this one if youre coming through pinehurst

Great little local tavern for casual faire, good portions, and nice people. A «go with the flow» kinda place, where if you’re from out of town, and you think you’re going to get the cute young waitresses to stand on their heads, grab the ketchup, get you an extra tomato, and explain to you why they’re not going to change the TV to Family Feud, then you’re probably at the wrong place. If you’re looking for a place where you can go with a crew, fill up, have cold beer, meet nice people, and still have some money the next day to lose to your pals on the golf course, this is your place. Great alternative to the larger, less-personable, chain sports bar where the cops are waiting for you to drive. Walking distance from the Pinehurst Resort, or downtown Pinehurst… less than 25 minute walk. Ask for Warren, Jay, Maxie… or anyone else, as they will get it right for you. Locals spot, without a lotta red. Near the Pinehurst Cadillac car dealership, but worth the short walk.

There is nothing better than the seafood chowder followed by a black and blue burger and a frosty cold draft at this place! The crowd is always friendly bartenders are on the ball and servers are great too! Of course the occasional oyster roast doesn’t hurt either!

After reading the reviews and the menu we were really looking forward to eating here. Kinda wish we went somewhere else. To start we had to walk through a wall of smokers in front of the place just to get to the front door. I have nothing against smoking or smokers and I realize this is a bar and grill but can’t you put that on the side of the building??? Anyway, sat down and we were greeted by a very nice young lady who was too soft spoken to hear over the really loud and bad«Key West/Jimmy Buffett» music and she also had really long blond hair that was not tied back. So we placed our drink order and looked over the menu. We decided to start with the chips done Nacho style. The plate is really large but comes covered in jalapenos so be warned. It was really good, lots of flavor to the chili and lots of toppings. On the menu they offer whole wings with a variety of sauces. So hubby and daughter decided to split 12 wings(ending up with 24) and I ordered the burger(which they offer a boat load of toppings) and asked for it medium with mushrooms and sautéed onions and swiss cheese. Hubby also ordered the garlic mushroom clam soup. While waiting for entrees we asked our waitress if there was anyway they could change the music and they did but they also turned it up louder. So now we are shouting at each other at the table… so not good. The soup came out and it was excellent! Creamy and full of shooms and clams. The wings were good but when they say whole they mean whole wings including the wing tips which turned out to be annoying to try to cut them apart. They didn’t seem to be piping hot so they weren’t very crispy but they were hungry so they decided to overlook the temp thing. My burger came out and it look beautiful… until I cut it in half and it was SOOOO over cooked it was gray and dry! The onions were more steamed then sautéed and the O-rings were over cooked and super greasy. So back goes my burger and I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. It was ok… the chicken was dry but the Caser dressing was good so I put extra dressing on it. They took my burger off the bill(which we expected) but our sweet waitress also gave us a discount on my salad because she felt bad about my burger, really nice! I would have to say we won’t be back.

Pleasant little bar, lunch was good, great salads, po-boys sandwiches, and wings. Portions were nicely sized. They appear to have daily specials as well. Don’t over dress.

I really like this place, a good sports bar with very good bar food. Portions are big so don’t go crazy. Wings are huge, onion rings are awesome and the burgers are great! Big variety on the menu too, highly recommend.

I heard rave reviews from friends so I had to try it out. Specifically I heard the burgers were good, but the wings were the best in town. It’s a fun location and was pretty empty on a weekday afternoon. It had a very local feel. I ordered the garlic pesto wings and was so disappointed by the lack of flavor! With a name like garlic pesto I thought it would be blasting with flavor, but I couldn’t taste it at all. I want to go back and try something different or at least ask them to drench the wings with the sauce.

Great place to eat. Food was delicious, they shrimp PO boy wasn’t covered in a ton of mayo or sauce. The shrimp was perfectly battered! Their salads are amazing. Enjoy.

I went there one afternoon when the place was pretty empty. Our waiter, some guy in his 30s? with dark hair seemed to be annoyed when I pointed out what appeared to be black mold in my glass of water. I don’t get it, you bring me water with sh*t in the glass, I politely inform you, and you don’t even apologize? WTF. I ordered fried calamari, it was just ok. The portion was decent. My son’s chicken tenders were alright, but because of the service, I give it a star. The waiter was extremely unwelcoming, to the point where I asked for boxes and took it to go. I doubt I’ll try this place ever again, there are many places in town where the wait staff actually seems to give a crap about customer service. I wait tables on the side, I know it’s not a glamorous job, but its not hard to be pleasant to people. If it is hard for you, dont work in the public!

My parents live in the area, so we make an appearance 4 – 5 times a year. This is the place for locals and where workers from the Pinehurst Resorts meet up after work. Beer is cold. Food is above average bar fare. Lots of sports games on TV. I suspect a lot of gamblers hang out there. Saw a few group of guys really into a Wyoming University college football game. I have only been in the afternoon and they have food for little kids. Try the soups, they are really good.

We just moved to Pinehurst from San Antonio and have been to Maxie’s 4 times already. It’s a great local spot with a full bar and plenty of beer on tap. The food is delicious! I always order the catfish platter with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. For $ 14, it’s a steal! The inside has traditional tavern décor and there’s a small patio outside. It’s a great spot to grab dinner and a drink. Many of the locals hang out here. It’s a great place!

Probably the best burger in town! Get the steak burger with pimento cheese, bacon and jalapenos. You will NOT be sorry! So amazing and flavorful! A coworker and I get this on a bi monthly basis and eat it at work. Everyone is always asking, «What is that!!!» Haven’t tried anything else there, but why? The burger and fries is the perfect meal!

First time here, maybe giving it another try soon. I came with a friend and we wanted a local spot for a few drinks. Well this is it. Good local feel with average drink selection. The atmosphere, cute and casual. Tvs at most tables, decent cleanliness. Foo, not really that good. We tried a few of the starters with a main dish. Nothing popular was healthy. Most of the food was not unique. Sent back the egg rolls. Service was friendly but definitely casual. Seeing the server go have a smoke and not being very professional was of set that she was attentive and somewhat friendly. Good for a new spot but doubt we will be regulars.

I visited Maxie’s for the first time with family for dinner during the week. The atmosphere was promising, but after we walked in we stood at the door waiting for a good while to be greeted or even acknowledged. The only staff around during that time was the bartender so I tried to make eye contact. When he saw us he directed us to a table and gave us menus. We decided what we wanted and put our menus down on the table and waited; I tried again to catch the attention of the staff but no one came. I’ve held restaurant jobs and I understand that they get crowded and staff get busy. But when no one takes your drink order or even says«I’ll be right with you,» that’s kind of ridiculous. We had been there approximately 25 minutes when we decided to leave. I haven’t left a restaurant due to poor service until now. Very unsatisfied with our experience at Maxie’s especially for a place whose menu boasts that it’s a «friendly neighborhood grill and bar.»
