Great service! Food is wonderful and the fireplace is cozy on a cold evening! We will be regulars at this spot.

Nice selection of local craft beers on tap and good food. Service wasn’t super fast but considering it was crowded(Charger game on TV) the single bartender was doing a pretty good job keeping up. The food arrived relatively quickly as well. Definitely a good spot to stop for a drink and a bite after a mountain bike ride on Mt. Laguna!

This is a local, small town bar at it’s best! If you haven’t stopped by in awhile, get to it! There has been some interior remodeling and some menu changes! The bartenders Ernie, Sharon and Ginger are GREAT! They are friendly and make a wonderful drink! For food, I’d recommend the chicken pesto sandwich, fish tacos, burger or pizza! There’s a jukebox during the week and weekends sometimes a live band and dj! There’s horseshoes out back and a pool table inside the bar! Always a great time!

This bar is a big disappointment. My husband and I call here every couple of months and this is the fourth time in a row the have been out of bud draft. Who ever is doing the ordering obviously doesn’t know what he’s doing. On top of that still no wifi — what bar in this day and age doesn’t have open wifi. The owners of this pub need to lift their game. If u wasn’t a bar full of drunken noisy locals with no bud draft and no wifi then this is your place!

I was greated at Calvins by someone who was casually dressed & seated at a dirty table, crumbs were below & around the table. I thought, no big deal the waiter will wipe the table & they’ve probably had a busy day, hence the floor. I was told later that I was the 1st customer of the day. My order was taken & still no offer to clean the table. I decided to move myself to a booth which was just as filthy as the previous table but had dry ketchup/soda stains. I ordered a glass of wine, the glass had a lip stain from the previous drinker. I told the waiter who apologized & brought out a new SMALLER glass of wine. As I sat there I started to wonder how clean OR dirty the kitchen was. I took a couple of bites of my meal, the food was good but at this point I had lost my appetite. I’m giving Calvins 2 stars for the bites I did take. The 3 missing stars are for the lip stains on the wine glass, the dirty floors & dirty table tops, can’t imagine what the closed kitchen looks like.

Wow. The food is really good. They make the onion rings here and they actually put seasoning in the mix. You must take the beautiful drive and try it. You will enjoy the food and the small town.

What a great place to eat. On our way to San Diego, stopped here for Valentine’s Day dinner of all times! Server was such a nice kid. My spaghetti reminded me of our homemade sauce. I absolutely recommend stopping here.

Food or Drinks… whatever you are looking for, Calvin’s is the place! They have improved a lot recently and I am very impressed. I order their Pesto Chicken Sandwich on a lettuce bun and it is absolutely delicious!!! I also love their Asian Chicken Salad. The bartender Ernie is the best! He makes great drinks and has a great personality to go with em! I love my small-town bar!!!

We were traveling to San Diego and starving so Calvin’s looked like a good place to eat. We like the hole in the wall diners. They have a pretty good selection of food. My husband and I chose burgers with homemade onion rings. You can get a 1⁄3 lb or ½ lb burger. The 1⁄3 lb was pleanty for us. They butter and toast the buns which is a great added touch. They have a good size kids menu as well. Our girls split the pepperoni pizza which came with fries and a drink. That saved us a little money. The portion was just the right size for them to split. The onion rings were awesome. Homemade and had herbs in the coating. Give Calvin’s a try next time you are passing by Pine Valley.

If you’re in the Laguna Mountains and want a great hamburger or fish tacos look no further than Calvin’s in Pine Valley. Ernie and Ginger work the sports bar most afternoons and are always friendly and helpful.

When this place first opened as Calvin’s, it was rocky. But they really seem to have all of the kinks worked out. The BBQ Pulled Pork Pizza is great and the fish tacos, grilled or deep fried, was my favorite until I tried the Chicken Pesto sandwich. YUM! And the beer selection if full of local San Diego beers. Also a YUM!

This review is for the bar, not for the restaurant. I live right down the road from here, and I have to say– there’s something really enjoyable about hanging out at Calvin’s. The bar food is REALLY good(try the boneless buffalo wings– they’re some of the best I’ve ever had – I could be wrong, but they seem hand-battered, and the homemade bleu cheese dressing is solid). Their pizza is also pretty delicious, and while I’ve never tried their burgers, dining companions of mine seem to really like them. The prices for bar food are reasonable, and there are often very good deals. On the weekends, this place can really pack a crowd, and the bar is very supportive of local musicians. If you’re in the area, head on over to the Sports Bar(the door is on the side of the building sort of…)

My wife and our friends decided to go out to dinner on a Saturday night, and since we were in the area, we decided to try Calvin’s. The first red flag that we should have noticed, was that we were the only people in the restaurant on a Saturday night. The first thing I noticed, was that our waitress was not wearing any kind of uniform or anything that told us we were at Calvin’s. She was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, and a pair of jeans. The further we got into ordering the meal, the more we started to think that maybe she doesn’t work there! She knew nothing about the menu! She didn’t know what sides they had, or how certain meals were prepared, she knew nothing! So once we get through the ordeal of ordering our food, after 45 minutes we finally get our food. I ordered the ribs, and seeing that they were about $ 20, I thought I was gonna get some tasty ribs. Wrong. They were terrible. Dry and tasteless were the first words that came to mind. Not to mention that everybodys food came out cold. We just stomached the cold food though, because we didnt want to wait another hour for them to make us new food. Stay away from this place. Drive 10 minutes west on the highway and go to Fred’s Diner or Janet’s Café… much better.

SLOWSERVICE!!! We waited over an hour for your basics; pizza, hot wings, nachos, quesdilla, and tacos. The boneless hot wings are great(good quality meat).

Not sure who the previous poster was paid by to post their review, but I definitely have to call BS on their review. I went there with my brother and boyfriend after some hiking nearby in Cleveland National Forest… we were just looking for some food and unfortunately for us, Calvin’s was the first place that popped up on the GPS. We should have stuck with our gut and gone to the Frosty Burger next door or just kept on driving. When we arrived there was no one else in the entire restaurant and there was a noticeably loud argument going on in the kitchen, ending with a man saying, «Oh great, of course NOW we get busy!» when we walked in the door. 3 people is busy for your restaurant? We should have taken that as our hint to move along since they obviously didn’t want our business. We were seated by a kid who looked like he had been toking up for half the morning already, and I was honestly a bit surprised by the prices on the menu. My brother went to the bathroom and described it as a «Haunted House» having to walk down a long darkened hallway and needing to be sure to leave the door on one end open to use the light to stumble your way down to the restroom. I ordered the fried shrimp(and had to remind our waiter that the menu shows it comes with soup or salad and 2 sides — he had no idea what their menu had on it). It took him 5 minutes to find out what the soup of the day was, and even then he came back and told me he was wrong and what the ACTUAL soup of the day was. It really didn’t matter, all he needed to have said was«Leftover dishwashing water» since that’s what the soup tasted like and looked like. The sides I ordered were garlic mashed potatoes(which really should have been called week-old rancid garlic potato salad) and rice pilaf. I am not sure how you can screw up rice pilaf, but they managed to do just that with flying colors. The fried shrimp was tough beyond belief. My brother ordered the«World Famous» BBQ and only ate it because his cheap thriftiness wouldn’t allow for him to NOT eat it… but he complained the entire time about how awful it was. My boyfriend ordered a steak with the same sides that I had… he had the same complaints about the sides that I had, and I tried a bite of his steak and literally wanted to spit it out as soon as it touched my tongue. All this terrible food coupled with our«Dude… I’m so hiiiiigh» waiter who literally had his iPod in his ears BLASTING metal music so loud that we could hear it across the restaurant and as he served us, and brought the wrong order twice… and the waiter having to turn up the music on their CD player(a Chuck Berry CD we heard 3 times all the way through the entire time we were there) to drown out the owners/chefs fighting in the kitchen loudly. We’re pretty sure they were fighting over whose fault it was their restaurant is such a failure. We ended up pushing our food around the plates awhile, then paying our overpriced bill… only the sodas were worth paying for… $ 5.00. I wouldn’t wish this place on my worst enemy… we ate another dinner once we got back to San Diego.

Major’s Diner was closed at 2pm(sad), and we were hungry for some greasy spoon comfort food! Calvin’s to the rescue! The restaurant side is cozy with a huge stone fire place, wood beamed ceilings, and comfy booths. The service was very friendly, though I joked that they must be part of the Slow Food movement because it did take a little while. But it’s not like they were just popping things in the microwave back there. My mac n cheese was very cheddar-cheesy but the noodles were a little mushy. It came with a nice salad and generous garlic bread. My friend’s made-to-order pizza came out great, and friend 2’s bbq pork platter was also a hit. Great spot to rest your weary bones and carbo-load after a strenuous hike in the area!
