Admittedly, I am a novice with regards to wine and wine tasting. Allen, the proprieter of Black Walnut, was refreshingly warm and welcoming. He provided my fiancé and friends with such genuine and caring service that I immediately forgot this was our first time meeting. The wine, of course, is very good. I, again, am new to wine but the cab and merlot were both highly palatable. Each wine was distinct in its taste and flavor. The product is excellent. The service, too. Indulge yourself and give this winery an opportunity.

My husband and I have been here a few times now and we reeeally enjoy it. It’s close to our house and is becoming our go-to spot for casual inexpensive dates. Sometimes we’ll walk down with a cheese plate and just get a couple glasses of wine or do a tasting, but recently we picked up a pizza from Vecchia and walked it across the street to Black Walnut. They had a GREAT blues band playing(Bushmaster Duo!) and we couldn’t leave after just one glass so we had another round. Really fun!

Love this place the staff are awsome and the wine is excellent. Have been making trips from Allentown to visit and this is a common stop for me now.

A terrific spot for hanging out to drink wine and check out some local musicians. Or grab a bottle to go for one of the many local byob’s. A wide variety of great wines! I havnt had one yet that I didn’t want to take home a bottle of! Check it out!

Great cheerful atmosphere. Merlot was great not too dry and had a fruity flavor with a good finish. My boyfriend got the syrah which is drier in taste but has an apricot flavor. Entertainment was a plus. They filled the place with great country music and classics like wonderwall. I would definitely recommend for anyone who wants a nice glass/bottle of wine and cozy atmosphere.

My husband and I stopped in to buy some wine to take to dinner. This was our first time there and the place was empty. As we entered we were smacked with the smell of cigarette smoke. It was so bad that I had to mention it to the man working. He said it was coming from the cooks next door smoking. I doubt it, but whatever. He was very nice and helpful. We chose their 2009 Pinot Gris Off-Dry. Love it! Very happy with our choice. The only other issue was that the cork was very brittle. The server at the BYOB where we took it even commented on it, but she said they never have this problem with their wines and was quite surprised. Anyway, great, well-priced wines cigarette smoke and all.

An excellent wine tasting establishment which gives Phoenixville some class. A perfect and enjoyable setting on the corner. Plenty of ambiance. Just wish it was open earlier

This is a nice venue for wine tasting. However, their wines and the service during our tasting were not as desired. The venue itself is well set up, open, and nice. People can stop in for a glass of wine or for a tasting. Black Walnut’s wines have a very light body and did not have a great flavor for the reds we tasted. This may be a matter of taste as I typically prefer heavier wines. This winery is limited in what you get for the tasting, compared to other wineries I have toured. The service during our tasting wasn’t great. We weren’t given a lot of background on the wines as we tasted them. It may have been a reflection of how busy the place was, but the service was rushed with little time to ask questions and get background on the wines.

Nice and relaxing place to do a wine tasting. $ 6 for 7 wines? YESPLEASE! I am a fan of their Sauvignon Blanc and their Pinot Noir. The tasting room is large and welcoming. The bartenders are very friendly and love to converse with the patrons. I will admit, I know very little about wines but they do a great job.

Their Chardonnay is the closest French style chard I have tried in the US. Fine example of what PA wines can be. They offer a 7 wine flight for $ 6 or if you buy a bottle or two will let you sample some of their other wines.

This cheerful tasting room looks more like a wine bar. It’s very bright and spacious with many small tables, and you can buy a glass for $ 6, which is better than doing the tasting when you just want to relax for a bit. The tasting is $ 6 to taste 7 wines of your choice. Having worked in a winery, I know that often people will just *taste* to get the equivalent of a free glass and then not buy anything, so I can see why they charge for a tasting, although the issue is somewhat controversial for wineries. Some people won’t try at all if they have to pay — even though you don’t get to try at the liquor store either. Anyway, we just wanted to sit in the window to people watch and soak up the sunshine. We shared a Tryst(red blend of merlot and pinot noir) and the dry Pinot Gris(there are two, and one is off-dry). We were the only ones there on a holiday weekday afternoon; mostly the teenagers seemed to be out. Phoenixville is New Hope-ing itself and is constantly growing and improving, beautiful little Carnegie library too, hidden on a back street across from a park. This is about as far as you would want to live from a major urban area. Yes, I know local wine can be more expensive than the PLCB sale bottles and not quite the same quality, but the industry is growing here and needs to be supported. The reason CA, NY, and Oregon are so good is that they have been improving for decades. Black Walnut uses grapes from a PA vineyard and makes the wine in a restored barn nearby Sadsburyville, which I plan to visit. The woman who poured(generously) for us did something interesting. She took a tiny taste from the bottle before she served us, to make sure the wine was good. She felt the white was not up to par(which can happen in a tasting room with less-often-requested bottles) and opened a new one for me. What a nice touch. I loved their glasses too and might have bought some if they were for sale, which I did not see, so I showed restraint and didn’t ask. Just like my problem with overly-long sentences, I have trouble accumulating too many wine glasses but will save my sheckles and space for vintage ones.
