Sage academy provides preschool-8th grade child are and education. They are a charter school here in north phoenix. My husband and I are looking for infant care, which they do provide. We were particularly interested in availability of varied schedule which they said they had. We stopped by unannounced and requested a tour. Entering the building, my husband commented it looked like a jail. No windows, minimal overhead lighting with white painted brick walls– no decorations. The carpet was worn and pulled on some areas. The infant room was appalling. It is literally in a large closet with 3 mini cribs lined up. No windows. It smelled of bleach. 2 babies were on the floor with a worker who was playing on her phone an didn’t even bother to put the phone down, say a word or even look at us. We looked at the preschool room next. I watched a 4 year old walk around alone in a hallway the whole time we were touring the hall– about 10 minutes. No adults. He could have walked out the exit door at the end of the hall to the street of he wanted to. Before we left, I looked in to the infant room 1 more time to see the woman hadn’t moved and was still on her phone. Eeeek no thank you to a jail like, janitor closet atmosphere an in attentive caretakers! And the search for child care continues…
