Dr. Kenneth Rowe, podiatrist, of Phoenix, Arizona, is also a mobile podiatrist. Today, February 16, 2015, Dr. Rowe was at my mom’s home, at Sunshine Village Assisted Living facility.(I would strongly like to make known that Dr. Kenneth Rowe is NOT affiliated with Sunshine Village Assisted Living facility nor is Sunshine Village Assisted Living facility affiliated with Dr. Rowe.) My mom has Alzheimer’s disease and cannot advocate for herself. Dr. Rowe trimmed the nails of two residents using the same pair of disposable gloves and the same nail clippers without using a clean pair of clippers. I know this because I was physically there and saw this occur. When it was my mom’s turn to have her feet worked on, I handed Dr. Rowe a new pair of gloves to use on my mom. I also asked him if he would use a sanitized pair of clippers. He said, «I have five pair.» I saw him put his hand, with the clippers in his bag and bring his hand back out. I do not know if he used a new pair of clippers. On June 9, 2014, the same situation occurred with not changing the gloves. I had to ask him to change his gloves that he used on other residents in my mom’s same cottage. Dr. Rowe did not say anything to me either visit when I brought these situations to his attention. Dr. Rowe, being a doctor, should know the importance of containing the spread of germs. Dr. Rowe shouldn’t have to be told. I can’t say for certain whether he would have changed gloves or clippers, but having seen it for myself twice, it makes me wonder how many times it has occurred. I guarantee that I will be at my mom’s every time Dr. Rowe goes to take care of her feet. I won’t let this improper technique/practice on my mom, if I’m not there to keep an eye on things.
