I used to go to Optical Expressions in Scottsdale but this location is more conveniently located for me. I am giving a 5 star mostly because of Tracy. She works in the front and helps you pick your lenses or contacts, does lens training, and answers ANY questions you may have. I have been going to this location for about a year now and every time I go in, she is so helpful and kind. She always remember my name and never seems bothered, even when I try on 100 glasses or needed a second contact lens training. I would recommend this optometrist but make sure after your eye exam you deal with Tracy =)

They should consider changing their name to «Rude Expressions“I have never encountered a ruder staff. My sister and I went in to look at new frames for her and her boyfriend and they were extremely rude. We were greeted by a nice woman who told us to take a look. We then started perusing the different frames when we decided to ask for a particular brand, my sister asked if they carried Prada and another woman sitting at the desk waved her hand at us as if she was shooing us away from the counter and said we have whatever is out. I asked if she could order a particular style as we had a style number with us and she said in a very annoyed tone«I’m busy and I’ll let you know when I’m free». Did I mention we were the only customers in the store? We were both shocked at her tone and lack of care/customer service and decided to take our business elsewhere. I wouldn’t recommend this business.

I have been waiting 35 minutes for my appointment, which was scheduled for 9:30 am. How do you get that behind after being open for half an hour? Don’t come here unless you have plenty of time and a good book!

Came here because i work so close, had an 9am appt 1st one of the day since they open at 9. They wouldn’t let me in at 856, girl literally turned around and locked it even though i was clearly waiting. Finally let in and did the usual paperwork, then a dude showed up. I waited almost ½ hr before being seen and i was first! The dude that got there after me got right in and out! I didn’t like that. Aside from that the lady doc was great and they have a candy bowl:)

Dr. Ryan was a very competent and friendly. I have no complaints what so ever with that part of my visit. The problems began after that. The woman who helped me(she also picked out my gorgeous eyewear) on the day of my appointment advised that my insurance did not cover the«professional component» of my contact lens fitting. I was being charged $ 125 for that. The eyeglass exam was covered with a $ 10 copay. This seemed excessive. Really excessive. I asked this woman«Doesn’t my insurance cover both contacts and eyeglasses»? She stated«No». «One or the other AND that my eyeglass benefit was BETTER than the contact lens benefit». In this moment, I knew something was wrong. I offered to check the benefit myself, but she insisted«No, I can do that». When it was all said and done, I paid half of my balance, which included the charge for $ 125. I eventually called my insurance carrier who confirmed that I did have coverage for BOTH. That’s right folks, I have a benefit for eyewear AND contacts. So, when I go to pick up my stuff, I ask to speak to someone about this. Karina very loudly doubted this, interrupted me and spoke over me, rolled her eyes and then called my carrier for all to hear. Not at all discrete. She then returns and confirms what I already knew and says«Typically, no one has coverage for both…» I do not know, for the life of me, why she was even arguing with me to begin with. I am the customer and I was not irate. But I was put off by her behavior and it was written all over my face… which donned a perfect pair of glasses. The biggest issue is that I asked the question initially and I was lied to. How could you know which benefit was better if you didn’t bother to check. Clearly, it would have been better to be ethical. Instead she opted to lie and then OVERCHARGE me. I believe that I got a good exam from the Dr. I believe that he can charge whatever he wants for his services. This bad experience could have been avoided if these two women were not so busy fleecing me. Or at least TRYING to.

Have had two terrible experiences with their receptionist at the esplanade location. I think she’s very hard of hearing. So maybe I should not fault her for that but in my humble opinion someone with a hearing problem should not be working phones to be scheduling appointments. Customer service over the phone is just as important as giving your customer a great experience face-to-face. It was difficult booking the appt on the phone because she couldn’t spell. I even phonetically spelled it slowly 4 or 5 times and she just couldn’t get it. Something abruptly came up on my schedule, so I called in hopes to reschedule my appointment. After having to repeat myself an idiotic number of times regarding my name, what I needed, etc she finally found the appt. The receptionist began laughing when I asked her what other dates they had available. When I asked her if something was funny about my question she began stumbling over her words and said that she was just trying to accommodate me.(!) how unprofessional. She got an attitude with me when I told her that I was just trying to get the dates she had open and I didn’t think it was funny. It’s totally unfortunate Dr Wilken and Dr Ryan are awesome but their receptionists could use a little support in customer service and training.

The staff was friendly and accommodating. They got me in for an eye injury within the hour despite my not being a current patient. Dr. Wilken was knowledgable and helpful. Would definitely recommend to others!

After recently moving to Phoenix, I decided to go to this place simply to renew my yearly contact prescription so I could get new contacts for this year. Beware that this place charges you a $ 95 fitting fee, which is SEPARATEANDONTOP of the normal examination fee. They will NOT tell you this in advance of your appointment. Nor was I told this by the technician or doctor. In fact, no one mentioned this to me until AFTER my appointment was already done and I was sent to the front to pay. While I exam was covered under my insurance, this«fitting fee» ate up over 2⁄3 of my insurance allowance for contacts the year. I’m sorry but to charge $ 95 to for a «fitting fee» to basically have the doctor tell me that my current contacts fit perfectly? I’ve been wearing contacts for about 18 years, have had many different insurance plans and gone to many optometrists, and have never experience this level of exorbitant price gauging. I would warn anyone to be careful about this place. I was also told that they do not have prices for their frames and you will have to pick out everything(frames, lens, etc.) before they will give you a price. Undoubtly to make you fall for a pair of glasses and then be told they cost $ 600 or something. I for one will not be a patron of a place that keeps so much hidden from their customers ever again. Even if you have money to throw away, I suggest you throw it away elsewhere.

These guys are beyond awesome. I was in Scottsdale/Phoenix from Mpls for the Rock and Roll ½. I ripped my contact and had no spare lenses. Upon contacting Optical Expressions they said to just fax my scrip and theyd help. Help they did and at NOCOST. Plus they validated my parking. Service like this is sometimes lost in the 21 century, but not at Optical Expressions. Thank you.

I highly totally recommend this place. The doc, a tall short hair gentleman, was professional and courteous. You could tell this was not his first rodeo, he knew what he was doing. The staff was nice and was able to get me in within a few days. I was in and out in less than 45 minutes. The Dr I saw told me «if you were my brother, I’d tell you that you don’t need glasses, don’t waste your money!» I was shocked. I was told 10 years ago that I do need glasses and had purchased a pair. This guy could have totally lied to me and taken my money, my insurance would have even paid for it, and he didn’t! Hard to find honest people these days. I’ll definitely be back if I ever need anything with my eyes again. I couldn’t be happier with this place. It’s easy for a Dr in this field to make their money off people, telling them they«need» glasses etc. I don’t know anything about eyes or prescription glasses.

As a first time patient, I was optimistic, truth be told I have never had a poor eye doctor visit or experience, so when I saw this provider on my provider list I felt confident. The receptionists were less than friendly, to start, then as the assistant calls my name to be taken back she doesn’t even wait for me or shake my hand. She proceeds to walk down this hallway failing to lead me in the right direction. She does a few tests on me and looks at my existing glasses and prescription. She then walks me into the exam room has me take a seat and tells me the doctor will be right in. 3 – 5 minutes later Dr. Ryan walks in, again failing to shake my hand and asks me «What we are doing today?» «Slight prescription change?» I’m sorry, WHAT? You are the professional, I come here and pay you to help me see better. It was the quickest eye exam I have ever had, maybe 5 minutes total. In that time, he failed to ask what I do for a living and I had to explain to him without him asking what my troubles with my vision are. He hands me my chart and I walk myself to the front. The front desk lady encourages me to go look at frames and says that an optician will be over soon. She grazes the front lobby area as I am looking and then I ask for help, as I am not an expert at picking out my own frames. Then she explains to me that she is the optician. While I continue looking she is chatting with a man in the lobby discussing morning sickness of one of their other employees and how this woman is not a great pregnant person and is such a complainer. Completely and totally inappropriate. This woman showed little to no desire to help me and as I would pick up a frame and try them on she would just shake her head no. and fail to pull things that I was even interested in looking at. At that point I asked for my prescription and left. If you are looking for good care, friendly staff and professional services, GOANYWHEREELSE!

great designer eyeglass section and doctor Ryan is very thorough and intelligent about Eyes and getting your prescription right. I had another doctor who was also good. Its a good place you can trust… but you will drop some coin if you want the pretty frames. I got some really pretty Vera Wang and last time rhinestone dolce gabanna’s

I love this place! I always get a good prescription, and they have really great frames! I always enjoy getting fitted for frames by Corina who is a lovely person. She gives great advice that you can trust if you are choosing between a few pairs. I always recommend Optical Expressions to my friends. Their frames and selection are great, and I always find something that’s perfect for me here. People often compliment my glasses.
