I’m Mexican and I came here to eat and was really disappointed. I ordered two tortas that looked more like sandwiches. On the menu they looked full of meat so I thought paying 9.00 for a tortas and a side of bag potatoe chips was not too bad. But what we received was two tortas with barely any meat. We ordered carne asada and rice for the kids and the food was bland and they didn’t even eat it all. Very disappointed, this restaurant might of started off well but I will definitely not be coming back. I feel the food is bad and over priced.

Hello again. Today we had the green chicken enchiladas, tinga tostada and a machete de alambre de pollo. Bombness!!! Salsas are on point. Every thing tasted fresh and delishes. Only one set back… My chicken in my enchiladas was hard. Imagine chicken left overs from the fridge left open. The top layer that gets hard is what seemed to be served. But still 5 stars for their great service and delicious menu. It was my wifes first time and she loved it. Their aguas are freshly made, not like the other restaurants that sometimes have old foam dried on the plastic container that ironicly is suppose to cycle the bevarege. For authentic fresh mexican food and drinks i highlt recommend los reyes del la torta

I went here looking for the amazing sandwich that I keep hearing about and saw on TV. La torta del Ray was just amazing and filled me up. It’s a decent looking restaurant and contains friendly customer service. Going to have to comeback for that sandwich.

This is one of those places where I go a long time without visiting… probably because I over-ate and decided I didn’t want to do that to myself again… Then someone visits and I suggest this place. We go… and as soon as I take that first, messy bite of a torta(any of their tortas… they’re all delicious!), I can’t stop myself from finishing the whole thing. No leftovers… regardless of how big the sucker is. And the drinks! they come in these massive cups and they’re so tasty! And then I hate myself afterwards because I’m so full and I gorged myself like a pig. Until next time! After a few weeks of working out…

Unilocal has helped me discover so many incredible places recently and this is one of them! By far, this place lives up to its name«The Kings of Tortas»(translation for Los Reyes de la Tortas)! Not only are the tortas spectacular, but the service is something you don’t find very often! The host was incredibly happy and kind. I told her that this was my first time visiting the restaurant and she kindly walked me through the menu. While I was waiting for my order another employee(I think he was the manager) asked the host if I had been helped. She said, «yes, and it’s her first time here». I then asked him how spicy the red salsa on Torta Ahogada was, he said«not very spicy». Once my order Take-Out came out, he also brought out a free Torta Ahogada for me to take home! I was so grateful and shocked that he would give me a free torta just because I enquired about it! This is something that showed me how amazing their service was! They have gained a new lifetime happy customer!

I came here for my own personal Man versus Food challenge to see if I can best the Torta Del Rey. Read more to find out who won — was it Man, or was it Food? Location & Aesthetics — Located in Phoenix on West Indian School Road. The area is pretty busy as the restaurant sits right on the busy road(and bus route) and is close to an intersection as well. I wouldn’t advise parking on West Indian School road. I would suggest either parking in front of the restaurant(limited parking spots available) or at the rear. The parking stalls in front are small and are for the handicapped so if you’re driving a large truck or SUV, you’d be safer parking in the rear. The parking in the rear isn’t all that fancy(isn’t paved well, has potholes, etc.) and looks rather run down but it’s the only choice(–1) If those spots become filled, I’m not sure what other choice you’ll have to park. I did manage to see folks parking along the sides of the restaurant as it looked as if there was stalls there, but again, if you’re driving a large vehicle, it might be tricky maneuvering through the side to get to the rear. The restaurant is a large open area, inside, with lots of tables and chairs and adequate space between them. There’s music which wasn’t too loud and was actually 80’s music playing at the time, a favorite of mine. There’s flat screen TV’s along the walls with the volume muted but the programming looked as if it was Sabado Gigante playing at the time. Menus — The usual, given upon arrival and when you’re seated. Very large, self-explanatory, and easy to understand. Service — The staff was nice, friendly, warm, welcoming, and bilingual. We were initially greeted in Spanish, then after their faux pas — that we didn’t speak a lick of Spanish — apologies were quickly issued. Staff answered our questions adequately and did check up on us frequently throughout our visit — very attentive! Food — Upon being seated, it would appear that every table is given a complimentary bowl of chips and salsa. Chips was fresh. Salsa wasn’t too thick, and though it appeared a little on the watery side, it was well seasoned and not too spicy. For drinks, we ordered the Aguas Frescas Naturales — iced water, sugar, and choice of fruit which came in a large glass with a miniature umbrella and looked like a large smoothie which was fresh and very tasty. These drinks, it would appear, are made right there in a corner of the restaurant that looked like a little cabana. As for the main meal — I came here for the Torta Del Rey — Ham, melted cheese, pork sirloin, breaded beef, omelet, sausage and Mexican sausage come with tomato, onions, avocado, chipotle sauce, smear of refried beans and potatoes ruffles on the side, and was a huge sandwich. All ingredients came together nicely and completed each other really well, it was fresh, very hot, and very tasty. Sadly, I have to say that food won this fight and I had to take the remainder home. I definitely do like this place and it’s got lots on the menu — things to try that will bring me back for sure!

Hands down the best place to get an Authentic Mexican Torta. My personal favorite is the«Torta Del Rey». Delicious fresh ingredients. Great service and you it’s priced for what it’s worth. A must try in my checklist. I have recommended this place to several friends with no regrets.

Tortas!!! This place has bomb tortas. I usually go with chicken since I like the leaner meats, but I’ve tried a few other styles and they’re all good. They also have fresh beverages with fruit, horchata, and various sodas.

Very clean place. Well served platters for a reasonable price. My favorite thing to order is the Quesadilla Estilo El Rey with Chicharron Prensado. Great priced at $ 12 and it is big enough to feed 2 very well.

This is what Torta perfection is all about. Wide range of styles and proteins, freshest ingredients, real telera bread and a passion for delivering mouth watering goodness every single time tattooed on the culture of the establishment. I’ve tried the Cubana, the Milanesa de Pollo and the Nortena de Pollo. While all clearly above the rest, the one that really stands out is the Nortena. A harmonious blend of grilled chicken, slightly charred, loaded with melted cheese, tomatoes, avocados, refried beans, chipotle AND jalapeños. I couldn’t just eat one… I had two. They have regular size(which is really Xtra Large) and Minis(which are regular for everyone else). Attentive and friendly service. Stand out appetizers include the Tostada de Ceviche as well as the Tostada de Tinga. Buen provecho! Eating here is like being in a year round Torta-pallozza! I love it.

I am not sure what all of the hype is about. Based on Man vs. Food recommendation we had the Torta Del Ray sandwich and it was VERY disappointing. The meat was dry, sausage was not browned and it was totally tasteless. I think the cook neglected to season the meats. My buddy ended up dumping salsa on his sandwich and I put hot sauce– anything to get flavor. Don’t waste your time on this one. MAJOR disappointment. On a positive note, the service was excellent.

Stumbled upon this place while looking for a quick bite to eat on the way back to CA. Parking can be tight and making your way to the back lot is a it of a challenge due to the narrow road. Prices are great, because they give you fairly large portions. The drinks they offer are very tasty and come in these giant glass bowls. Three different staff members approached us and started speaking in Spanish. Only after the awkward silence did they begin to speak in English. I wasn’t offended or angry at all though. I thought it was quite funny that they think everybody speaks Spanish. After the awkward silence and stares, all the servers who helped us were very friendly and always willing to help!

I had a late lunch with my daughter today at this place. Decided to try it since I keep hearing good things about their food. We were there around 2: PM and place was almost empty. We were seated right away and a waitress brought us chips and salsa and took our drinks orders. Chips tasted fresh and salsa was good it only needed a bit of salt to my taste. In fact everything we ate needed salt. I order a creamy strawberry agua fresca to drink and my daughter got a Dr. Pepper(can they don’t have fountain drinks). My agua fresca was super good! So good we ended up ordering one to go after we were done with our lunch!!! I must add this was the best part of my meal!!! My daughter order from the kids menu a quesadilla; she asked to replace carne asada with chorizo; which by the way came with beans and rice as side dishes. Her beans were great and rice was ok. I’m guessing her quesadilla was great cause I didn’t get to try it as fast as she ate it. I order a corn quesadilla with chicharron El King style. The corn tortilla is handmade and super delicious. I didn’t like the chicharron so much but maybe cause I’m not used to that type of flavor. It was a bit too strong. So almost half way I decided to take the chicharron out and eat the corn tortilla with the extra toppings(sour cream, queso fresco, onions and cilantro). My quesadilla came along with ice berg salad which by the way looked so old I didn’t even attempted to eat it. I gave them three stars because the place look clean, waitresses were kind and very efficient and I didn’t have to wait too long for my drinks or food. But everything we ate including the three different kind of salsas they brought to the table needed lots of salt. I must add that I usually don’t add extra salt to my meals but this time I just had to or my food wouldn’t had taste like anything. I’ll definitely go back and give it another try. Most of all because the the Aguas Frescas!!!

Again, upon Adam Richman’s heels… As a continued fan of «Man vs Food» and after having bookmarked a few of Adam’s noted, Phoenician eateries – Chompie’s, Alice Cooper’stown, and Los Reyes de la Torta – I saddled up, traversed over 350 sun-scorched miles, and with extreme prejudice negotiated terms of surrender with a literal powerhouse of a Mexican sandwich – one piled high, layered thick, and respectfully ordained«Del Rey.» ¡Muy delicioso! Ham, melted cheese, pork sirloin, breaded beef, refried beans, hot dogs, omelet, chorizo, tomato, onion, avocado, chipotle sauce: all hail the King! Ok, it’s true, I may be a bit biased – after all, who am I to contradict Adam? – but unwavering confidence and grandeur shoulder this reigning torta. My job, put simply: tossing confetti. How am I doing? =] The rundown: .(By the way, I visited the West Indian School Rd. location, while Adam opted northward to Sunnyslope’s haunt on North 7th St.) What was even better was being treated like kings, ourselves, while we were there. We really were. The service was supreme! My only regret was not taking a picture of the Elvis statue in the window! Yes, the King himself. But I’ll get it next time. Trust me. Adam…lead on!

Who doesn’t like a Torta once in awhile? The inside at this location has a giant eating area for families and then some and is decorated with lots of fun colors. There are several TV’s that you can stare at while zoning out to your special occasion. Interestingly festive music envelopes the room. I think I even saw a small stage with speakers. Hmmm? Giant menu with lots of different items and pictures to choose from if you are not in the mood for a Torta. I’m hungry already! Free salsa and chips arrive at the table instantly and are very tasty. I did the Man vs Food last time and it took me over the edge. This time ordered the Nortena de Res which is steak with onions & jalapenos with chipotle sauce, melted cheese, refried beans, tomato, avocado, & chipotle dressing. I always enjoy the fresh radishes and cucumbers served as a garnishment. Service was quick and friendly. I liked the way the inside was so clean. Even saw someone doing some touch ups on the front window which is always good. Just need a piñata to whack full of candy as you leave for giggles. They are so much fun. Enjoy!

El milanesa sandwicho es muy bueno! That was my inner Spanish-speaking voice said after eating the breaded steak sandwich at Los Reyes de la Torta(which, loosely translated means«Reyes of the Sandwich»). I tried a couple of other sandwiches too(thank you for that opportunity, Groupon!)… but my inner voice was not nearly as pleased with those sandwiches as it was with the milanesa. On a different note, I was approached in the parking lot by a homeless-looking man asking for change… but I don’t hold that against this place, as I am sure he was just trying to scrounge up enough pesos to afford a milanesa sandwich to go with his 40 oz Dos Equis! !Arriba arriba!
