I come to Goodwill with a general idea of what I’d like to find, never a set idea on what I’m going to take home. That generally works if there is selection. While this location is clean and convenient, I was pretty disappointed by the selection. I looked at books, children’s toys and children’s clothes on my last visit and all were pretty week. The clothing especially was pretty limited. This may be due to how recently it opened(I believe in the last year), but I don’t know how distribution works for Goodwill. Still, staff seemed helpful(in exchanges I observed) and the location is clean, possibly due to how new it is and it’s location in the Melrose district. Whatever the case, I’m giving it two stars because the most important thing for me, beyond cleanliness and customer service(for which I have very low expectations of both), is selection, which this location lacks.

If you can get past the riff raff that often loiters outside the building, you will find a pretty average Goodwill. Although not my favorite Valley Goodwill location, the employees are nice enough and they do a good job of keeping the store fairly organized for optimal thrifting. I come here for the book selection. For some reason, this location has a wide array to meet almost any literary desire! Here, I have purchased current GMAT study books, prime Southern Living Christmas cookbooks and the occasional like-new Newberry children’s books for the nieces and nephews. Oh, and once, I found a beautiful set of Jimmy Carter books – the perfect gift for that Southern Democrat on my list. They also have their fair share of Twilight and copies of Eat, Pray, Love(why does every used book store have 10 copies of Eat, Pray, Love???). At checkout, opt in for the increase-to-the-next-dollar-up(to give back to society) and keep your head down while walking briskly to your car. You will get asked for money at least once(or cigarettes). Happens every time. Happy thrifting!

First of all this place smells like death warmed over, I don’t know why such a stink is allowed to linger in a building for this amount of time. Secondly the employees or rather the managers seem unfriendly and generally preoccupied with their foolish bossing around of hard working employees. The amount of product the store puts out is overwhelming, I know there’s is a need for newer merchandise but what’s the point if it’s going to be taken off a week later, I feel you can make more money if you left the product out for more than 5 days. I feel extremely sorry for the employees having to constantly redo the same task over and over again. The store seems to be run by idiots and once again I feel terribly sorry for those hard working employees. If the managers even care enough to read this here’s some advice, the people I’ve seen work for you seem dedicated and hardworking, don’t let that slip away while you’re busy worrying about how many things you have to put out. Anyone will tell you quality is better than quantity even in a second hand store. Take this to heart and work for your employees and customers not your bottom line

Goodwill is… Goodwill. Funny how this is a new store but already has that Goodwill smell. I guess they’re kind of like Abercrombie and Fitch like that. I landed a pair of like-new leather Bostonian loafers for $ 10 so, I can’t complain.

This new store takes over the space that used to be occupied by a Salvation Army store, on Indian School Rd. near 7th Avenue. It is one of the smaller Goodwill stores in the Valley but has sufficient items to satisfy most bargain hunters and proponents of the commendable reuse-to-reduce-waste movement. As with most Goodwill stores in the Valley, it is clean, well-organized, and this one is very conveniently located within the Melrose District of central Phoenix.
