I can echo the reviews on here that claim to have never gotten a bad haircut at Carstens. I’ve had my hair cut by both Carsten and Jenna and both mentor and mentee never failed to provide excellence in style, cut, and experience. They listen to the client, digest what they hear, offer back helpful clarification and alteration (if needed), make sure everyone is on the same page and then get to work. After decades of moving through life with no one ever mentioning my hair, my year and a half with this salon and I hear unsolicited compliments on a weekly basis. Prices are high, but still within reason (at least for a men’s haircut). They sell quality product as well, but I wish it were still priced a little lower than it is. There is something deflating about getting a great haircut and wanting to add some great shampoo to the experience only to shy away from it because it nearly doubles your cost. All in all, a fantastic and consistent hair salon. I would recommend to anyone.

You never get a bad haircut here. My hair looks great when I leave and with the technique they use it almost falls into place when I style it at home. I love Carstens and would not go anywhere else.

Worth the drive for me to come and have my hair done correctly. Bea was able to fix my hair after a bad experience at another salon. Best my hair has looked in a long time
P. s. Bea no longer works at the salon but I stayed with Jenna a stylist that’s worked on my hair before and she is absolutely phenomenal. No complaints and the owner Carsten has been there on occasion when I’m there and is always smiling and super friendly. No pretentiousness at all here. I highly recommend Carstens.

My first experience at Carsten Salon was amazing. If you want a edgy, modern, well polished cut then this is the place for you. Jenna a master stylist stood up to my expectations. She was fashion forward and listened to what I wanted through our consultation. For the price of a master stylist you get what you pay for. Wanted a medium length A-​line cut and she did just that. Will definitely be back for another style and cut.

I love everything about this salon. The atmosphere is bright and open. The staff is always welcoming. But most importantly, every stylist has been trained by Mr Carsten individually. It is the only place I have ever been where EVERY stylist is fantastic. I first went to this salon in 1988. I loved it then and continued to go until I moved out of town in 2002. For 12 years, I searched for a single stylist that could cut my hair well to no avail (I have very difficult hair). I returned to AZ and Carsten this year and I am happy to be back. Thank you Mr Carsten for creating such a place!

I love this salon! Georgie is amazing, and the only person I will let touch my hair! She is so talented and I will give me an honest opinion when it comes to hairstyles! I have curly hair and she knows exactly how to style it in a way I love! I have gone to Georgie for cuts, highlights, and blow outs, everything she has done is phenomenal!

I love this place! I had an opportunity to come in and sit with Morgan a couple years ago and I have never strayed to another salon since. She always works with me and always tells me to take my hat off whenever it’s been too long between haircuts lol! The atmosphere is clean and chic and I will be back again and again! Ask for Morgan!

I recently moved to Arizona from Michigan. I rarely let anyone cut or color my hair other than my stylist back home. After living in Arizona for almost 3 months, I was well over due for a cut and color. Morgan exceeded all of my expectations and I will definitely be seeing her again in the future! She is an amazing hair stylist and knows exactly how to make your hair look just the way you envision it to be!

I have always been self-​conscious about my receding hairline until Morgan cut my hair. She made me aware that I could show my hairline and that it was only natural for it to be receding «a little.» Because of my new haircut I feel more confident. Thank you Carsten Salon :)

I came in for a cut and color. I had grown out highlights and split ends. Morgan gave me layers and the more natural look I was hoping for. I was so pleased with the service. She was patient, attentive and friendly. The salon was clean and refreshingly professional. I would highly recommend coming here. Ask for Morgan!

I go here frequently and they have excellent service. I would recommend seeing Jessica Miller. She is by far the best hairstylist I’ve ever seen. I always hate explaining what I want and not turning out right. She’s been perfect since day one

The only place I get my haircut, since I was 11 years old. Quality is always on point no matter who you get. Love the hair products they use, their blow drying technique saved my curly, frizzy hair. Cannot say enough excellent things about carstens

For a long time, I’ve been going to the Carsten Institute in Tempe. About a year ago, I was matched with a stylist named Morgan who was really sweet and I requested my appointments to be with her ever since. Well, she ended up graduating and moving on to the Carsten Salon in Phoenix. I really like her and go often to this salon, when I can afford it. She is a talented stylist and very friendly. I have encountered some snobbish-​ness with the front desk but it wasn’t too bad given the locale.

I really like Carsten Salon, Ally in particular. The desk staff have improved and are not any more snooty than at any other high-​end salon. It seems to go with the territory in Phoenix/​Scottsdale. I had tried severl other salons over the last few years trying to save money (Great Recession) but really think Carsten is the best salon in Phoenix.
Really my loyalty is to Ally, she always gives me a perfect cut. She is super nice and I’ve missed her. If Ally left I would probably leave too, but for now I’m glad to be back.

I’ve been in this salon several times over the past couple of years. If it weren’t for a good friend stylist who worked there I’d never have given it a chance. But over all the staff members there and the manager for that matter are as rude, pretentious and second rate as they come. My stylist is worth every penny but the Salon is way pricey for it’s local. If it’s the Aveda products your after (You have good taste) you”d be doing yourself a favor by driving the extra two miles to Salon Tru or Scottsdale Fashion Square.

When I do get a haircut (which isn’t too often so I want the best) I like to go to carsten’s. Its pricey and the staff can be irritating at times, but I’m a sucker for awesome interiors. I always have gotten a decent cut there too.
