Unfortunately this place has closed. We ate there last Sunday and they closed without notice the next day. Too bad. The food and price were both excellent. Ladies and gentlemen, we are truly sorry and very sad to say Southern’s at PBK is officially closed for business. We want to thank each and every one of you for your loyalty, support, and patronage. We would love to keep you updated on any new projects Southern’s will have in the mix, so please look for any new developments from Southern’s Fine Dining, our catering company. Thank you all again, and we can’t wait to get something new, fun, and exciting coming your way in the coming new year Pflugerville.

I was hoping to love Southern’s but unfortunately our visit this last Saturday fell mostly flat. That isn’t to say that everything was a disappointment, but there were quite a few missteps in the food, and the service was slightly off. First thing’s first — that patio. What a lovely entrance to the restaurant. Too bad it was raining the night that we stopped in, otherwise I could definitely envision a magically enchanting evening there. Maybe next time! So, when we came in there were two hostesses. Both were sitting behind the podium looking incredibly bored. They did stand up and get us seated at a lovely table upstairs in the bar. On our way up, I noticed little alcoves with tables — I kind of wondered why we weren’t sat in one of those, as we had a party of four. Instead, we were sat at a smaller table upstairs and they had to go get two extra chairs for us. This was odd, but it was fine. There were many full tables upstairs and a guy with a great voice and a guitar providing entertainment. Our waitress was along shortly and although our table was set with four menus, and only half the party was there she launched hurriedly into explaining the special. We had to stop her, because our party was just walking in the door below. After they came up she went at it again, and then took our drink orders. Sort of backwards, but oh well. She did come back quickly with drinks, and was for some reason in a hurry again to get us ordering. We hadn’t even looked at the menus yet. So, we got down to it, made our decisions and when she came back, we were ready. Otherwise, service was mainly a delight for the rest of the evening. The food came out fairly quickly. Now, I’m going to launch into the food here — my party got a variety of dishes and everyone felt differently about the quality of their food. My husband had the pot roast and loved it — said it was fantastic. One other person in my party got the PBKBLT and felt that it lacked flavor. Another person in my party got the PBK Burger and thought it was decent. I mistakenly ordered the special which was described as a chicken breast with a wine sauce, seasonal vegetables and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes and veggies were good, more than decent. The chicken, however, it was grey. It was grey, it was sour, and in all honesty I should have sent it back immediately. I did end up eating it though — it was like boiled, sour chicken. I’m not sure if there was supposed to be a sauce that never went out, or if the chef put this one on autopilot and left for the day but it was not good and it wasn’t acceptable. I will, however, take some responsibility for not sending it back. I was really hungry and I didn’t want to wait to get something else. We also ordered desserts — one had the Fried Peach Pie and didn’t like it very much, one had the Hot Maple Glazed Doughnut and was totally impressed, and my husband and I split the banana pudding which was decent, but somehow oily. I also had a drink that I believe was called a Southern’s Hurricane that was fantastic. So, there you have it. I had higher hopes for the food here and it just didn’t make it for my party. I’m awarding three stars for ok food, fantastic patio, good entertainment and ok service. I’d be willing to come back to Southern’s and give it another try some other time — but I definitely will not be ordering the special.

Can’t really comment on the quality of the food. But their motto is a restaurant that pflugerville really needs. I agree we need a restaurant that serves great food at a great price with fantastic service. However. My wife and I have tried to go several times and every time they are closed due to an event… We really wanted to eat here but we only have specific nights we can go. Wish this restaurant all the best but, if they’re more interested in serving large groups to make more money this isn’t the type of restaurant Pflugerville needs.

The only reason this was not a one star is that we have been for the brunch buffet, which was fantastic. Dinner … just no. Sorry. Too much food was clearly cooked far ahead of time and simply reheated, awful servers, and hordes of unruly clearly drunken patrons make it a rather unpleasant place to be in the evenings as a sober human. The meatloaf and gravy tasted old, old old. The pot roast had a good gravy but no flavor to the meat, and unimpressive portions. The sides were mediocre. Shrimp and grits, I’ll admit the shrimp were good, but the grits were putrid. Our server was awkward and a little rude, and the other customers were all yelling loudly through out the time we were there. We got to observe one waitress say things like«what f*ckers», lots of death stares and eye rolls, and«oh god shut up already» as she walked away from a table that was very annoying — asking for things like ketchup, or the typical burger toppings you’d expect like lettuce and pickles — or simply asking for more beer. We even got to observe her walk over to another table to talk trash on her«problem» table. I might go back for brunch, but after this, I will certainly never go anywhere near this place for dinner again.

My husband and I LOVE southern comfort food… there is nothing like it in this world! We moved here a month ago and heard lots of good things about this place, so we finally went last night. Despite our friendly waitress and the appetizers, this place was NOT what all the hype was about. Not even 5 minutes after our apps were served did our entrees come out… COLD! The waffles from the chicken and waffles entrée… let’s just say that my mornings Eggo waffle was much bigger and much tastier!!! My pot roast was bland and the«roasted veggies» we’re all under cooked. I would rather drive the 45 minutes to get to Dahlia Café in Liberty Hill and eat a HUGE southern portioned meal for a FRACTION of the cost, then drive 10 minutes to get what we got last night!

This review is for the brunch, where they could do no wrong for $ 16 or however much it was. The venue was decent. It was a great older building with rustic chandeliers. Venue out of the way, you can’t beat the deal for the diverse and huge amount of food that you have access to at this brunch. From a carving station to the waffle and omelet stand to the tons of gravy and selection of desserts, you really can’t beat the deal. On top of that, I believe the mimosas, which I wasn’t drinking that day, were $ 7 or $ 12 for unlimited amounts… you can’t beat that. The staff were great, the executive chef, who was working the omelet and waffle stand was a cool guy, and the overall experience was well worth the couple of minute extra drive up from Austin to Pflugerville. It’s definitely worth going to if you want to get some classic american brunch faire on a Sunday for brunch.

Well the wife and I went here a few weeks ago and tried them. Yes if you like a large nice outdoor patio with music on some of the nights then this is your place. It is a very nice one. We must have gone on an off night the service was so so it appeared to me that they were more interested in cleaning up than serving customers. Our wait was long and the food cold. We thought the food we had was just OK nothing special. Would we go back? Not impossible.

We love supporting local places. Southern’s makes it easy to do that with the great food! I love this place. I’ve had the lamb chops, chicken fried steak, and tonight the blackened catfish. The catfish was slightly too«blackened» for my taste, but the flavor was good. I can’t wait to try the bacon wrapped meatloaf. We’ll keep coming!

This is one of our regular joints — love the menu(I don’t think I’ve had a bad thing) and the craft beers. I will absolutely continue coming out for dinner! That said, we were entertaining some guests this weekend and decided to head to Southern’s on Sunday for some beers and snacks. We had planned on staying for dinner and somewhat assumed that they would have a band on the patio. They didn’t — totally fine — but we still intended on relaxing with some drinks and apps on the patio until later. We ordered several apps and continued ordering beers until the waitress seemed completely put out after only a few rounds(mind you that we were one of only 2 total tables on their huge patio) that we weren’t yet ordering full meals. After a few short comments, we left and walked across the street… No hard feelings, Southern’s — Hanovers right across the street happily took our drink orders!

I still love this restaurant! Every time I go back I am delighted by something new. On Wednesdays kids’ meals are free, so if you go during happy hour on a Wednesday, you can enjoy half-priced apps, drink specials AND your kid eats free? I don’t think you’ll find another deal that good around these parts. I loooove sitting out on the patio on a warm summer evening with the misters going. Really special place.

I’ve had this place bookmarked for a while now, and Saturday evening I decided to grab a friend and check this place out. The outdoor patio area is amazing! I mean the size, outdoor bar, and the seating was top notch! We arrived there around 5:30, and I was actually surprised how empty the place was. Maybe I’m getting old. We started off with the Roasted Garlic tater tots with Parmesan Cheese and Black Truffle Aoli. I think those little suckers were the best tater tots I’ve ever had! We also ordered the Bacon– Wrapped Jalapeño and Jack Cheese– Stuffed Prawns. I’m not sure the $ 12 price tag for 4 shrimp was really worth it, but they were very tasty. They also had a special Crab Cake that I can’t seem to find on their menu, but man were they fresh. I mean I could have eaten like 6 of these things they were so good. I would have honestly given PBKs 4 stars if I were just basing this review off the appetizers, but… and it’s a really BIGBUT… I was still a little hungry! I decided to order the signature PBK Burger. This will go down as one of my top 5 burgers I’ve ever had! I mean 1⁄3 lb cooked to a perfect medium well topped with smoked BRISKET, cheddar cheese, onion straws, and HOLY Dr. Pepper Sun– Dried Cherry BBQ Sauce. It was absolutely a huge MESSY piece of Heaven! Thank you Southern’s I’ll definitely be back!

I am a sucker for big and glorious patio dining! This one will blow you away. Complete with fans, misters and tables for large groups. I’m going out on a limb here, but I am just going to throw it out there. This is the best place to eat in Pflugerville. My sister raved about this place for months and they were closed for a while, but as soon as it reopened I had to try it. Originally known as Stem and Stein? The owner came to our table after we ate and wanted to know what we thought. We were stuffed and completely satisfied. I always think it’s nice when an owner cares enough to be present at his restaurant. Tables upstairs in the back could use a little extra lighting. Otherwise ambiance was perfect for small group gathering or date. I will be back :)

This place is a gem and a short way from home. I love this place for numerous reasons. The inside of the building shares a space with an insurance agency. The building is so beautiful and historic, they didn’t want to change the structure to accommodate either space so they are sharing it. You literally look down into the agency while sitting upstairs. Brunch on Sunday is all you can eat for $ 15.99 and bottomless mimosas for $ 7. What better way to spend a Sunday. All the staff is friendly and constantly covering each others tables. Everyone helps each other out and happy to do so. You have to check out the pork belly. Amazing! The outside bar area is cute and comfortable and I love it. Stone walls, succulents on the table, great music… Even live music… misters to cool you off, outside bar, tvs. The bartender, Frankie, is awesome!!! Ask for his watermelon specialty drink. Or the Madre(I think that was the name). You won’t regret it. You’ll beg him for a pitcher of it to take with you to the beach. So refreshing. Make sure you try the egg rolls(Frankie made these!) and the mac and cheese. The sweet chili wings were good too. Go to Southern’s. So happy pflugerville was lucky enough to host such a tasty restaurant. It’s one of our neighborhood staples.

Wow.. Simply excellent all around. They don’t take reservations for small parties but we requested a reservation because I’m very pregnant and experiencing nerve complications. Diane obliged and gave us a reservation. When we got there, they were packed with a clear wait outside and there was a slight error in our reservation being we were a party of 5 and they had 15. They truly all pitched in and scrambled to get us a table asap and were extremely thoughtful and kind. I know how busy they were but still took out the time to help us and make us feel welcome. Now to the food. The spread was impressive. I didn’t even get to try 2⁄3 of it because I was stuffed so now I’m needing to go back to rectify that asap! I ate some pulled pork dish that was incredible, chicken and sausage jambalaya(my favorite dish today), bacon, sausage, blackened catfish with greens, smoked pork belly, and a mac and cheese to name a few things. I never even made it to the salads. Desserts, omelet bar, pasta station or whatever else I didn’t see! Everything was delicious and worthy of being a stand alone dish you’d order off a menu. I want to personally thank Diane and the entire staff for their hospitality and kindness in making our mother’s day memorable. We will be back soon!

Mmm. We saw like 6 positive reviews and decided to give this place a try. The outside seating was perfect and people were all having a jolly olé time. Too bad my party had wanted to sit indoors. The chairs were extremely uncomfortable to be in for a long period of time. Being skinny doesnt help either I guess. I had two wines that were delicious if you dont like oaky wines: Red Guitar Sangria and Dolce Florence Vineyard Riesling. Sweet yummy wines. My order was simply the Jalapeño shrimps that was small and was really worth $ 5 – 6 bucks at most. $ 9 dollar or was it $ 12(?), not worth it. My friend’s chicken waffle felt like it came out of a prepackaged box. Soggy chicken with no seasoning. Nothing special. The waffle needed regular maple syrup to give it taste since it came with a butter cream maple syrup that was extremely mild. The macaroni were pretty delicious though: Black truffle, bacon and the three cheeses. Then out came the desserts. Luckily my banana vanilla pudding tasted delicious so no complaints on my end. My friend’s donut with candied bacon ice cream was terrible. Hard stale donut. No good. And finally came the peach pie. Raw dough issue with both pies. Needless to say we were disappointed with the food quality. The drinks were great though, along with the excellent customer service. Might come back one day once they iron out their issues.

Downtown Pflugerville has needed a new addition to spice up the area and I am glad that Chef Steve has decided to open up the old PBK Stein and re-vamp the space and menu. The food can be described as upscale comfort. They are still working out a few bugs with opening up, they are hiring local servers that are younger kids… giving them a chance to make some money. They do try very hard, but there are still some things to be worked on with the service… training is provided on a proactive basis is my understanding, I think that open communication when there are any issues are key and they will fix them pretty quickly. All of the servers we dealt with were very sweet though and we had several different ones checking in on us during our dining experiences. We have went here for happy hour, half priced apps and dollar off beers. Tried the prawns, wrapped in bacon with jalapeño and cheese and a buffalo sauce… really enjoyed those. The austin egg rolls were brined brisket with a bbq dipping sauce, a bit too greasy for us. The mac and cheese flight was awesome, we loved the green chile mac but I hear the truffle mac is very good also. We finished the night with the bourbon Dr. Pepper float, let it sit for a little and stir and it will be delightful. We sat in the outside patio area, which I really like when the weather is nice. We then went for brunch, which was a bit of a hectic and slightly disorganized affair still with the service. But, be patient again and it will be worthwhile. For all you can eat brunch it is $ 15.99 and there are so many choices. You have a whole salad bar section, breads, sweets, various meats, roasted veggies, dirty rice, biscuits and gravy, omelette station, carving station, mac and cheese station. A build your own bloody mary bar, which is apparently $ 6 per shot and then you fix it up as you like. We sat upstairs for this one, and it was a little dim but not too bad. They share some space with the state farm office, so on the top floor you can see into the other office, it is a little weird at first. We will be frequenting this place as often as our budget allows as I believe in supporting local businesses. Chef Steve is a very nice guy and is trying to do something positive in the community and provide a good quality dining experience for us. I am sure in a few months with the rest of the kinks get worked out, this place will be hitting it out of the park every time.

My friends and I just left Sunday brunch and my friend, Ana, described feeling Shamu’d. That means everything was so good, we just couldn’t stop. I’m also a vegetarian, so I was really looking forward to the Bloody Mary bar more than anything Brunch included a Mac and Cheese bar with crab, chives, pico de gallo, blue cheese, and cheddar cheese ad-ins. Ummm… Heaven. The mac and cheese was flavorful and creamy and I ate more mac and cheese than I have this entire year. The salad bar consisted of fresh spring mix, crisp cucumbers, red onions, and cherry tomatoes. There was also a pasta salad and an Israeli couscous salad. The pasta salad was made with penne pasta, fresh mozzarella, and tomatoes. The salad was a little watery and the pasta was slightly overcooked, but the mozzarella and tomatoes were great! The couscous salad had basil(maybe), raisins, and feta. Now, I love Israeli couscous, like really love it, but I hate raisins, so I was conflicted. I served about a tablespoon of the mixture and it was incredible. It was so good that the raisin even tasted good. The dessert station included bread pudding with cream sauce, banana bread, brownies, chocolate chip cookie bars(I think), berry cobbler, and banana pudding. I restrained myself and only took a mini mason jar filled with banana pudding. Although, it was a little too sweet for me, it was still heavenly. The fruit cobbler and bread pudding got high marks from my co-diners. I also tried the biscuits and hash browns, both were good, but I would rather have had more mac and cheese instead. The brunch also included an omelet bar with a huge variety of veggies, meats, and cheese to add, a wide selection of fresh fruit and pastries, smoked pork belly, roast beef, tilapia, chicken pot pie, and biscuits and gravy. The chicken pot pie and pork belly got rave reviews from the meat eaters. Remember that Bloody Mary bar? Yeah, didn’t happen. At first, I couldn’t find it; by the time I asked about it, I was too close to a mac and cheese coma to commit to it. Next time! The servers were friendly, but slow with the drinks. I waited a long time for a water refill and when I finally got it, there was no ice. And I’m an ice queen, so that was a thumbs down. In any event, they were all super friendly and cleared the table quickly, so that gets a thumbs up. One other thing, we were seated inside upstairs. So we had to work for our food, which kept me in check with the mac and cheese, seriously. It was drizzling when we arrived, so I guess that’s why they sat us upstairs. As we were leaving, we saw one table seated outside. I decided this was a place my meat eating fiancé and my vegetarian self can go and both be happy, especially since it’s so close to home! I’ll definitely be back(with fiancé since he missed this incredible brunch).

Chef Southern has a good thing going on here. The restaurant has the perfect ambiance, excellent food with southern hospitality. Chef Southern has worked for some well known companies and has his own successful catering company. The restaurant building itself holds lots of history and there are some interesting stories about its past. Besides the cuisine the spacious inviting patio is the draw at Southern’s. As we walked in we saw lots of diners laughing and enjoying the beautiful sunshiney day. There is also private booth seating on the first floor of the building and dimly lit dining on the second floor. We arrived early and sat at the outside bar while waiting on our friends to arrive. Notably they have a nice selection of beer and wine. They carry your standard domestic beers along with some local goodies like Austin Eastciders. The food menu is approachable and has something for everyone. Our group of 5 shared several appetizers to include the crab dip, macaroni & cheese flight, Austin egg roll and the almond crusted brie. The rich crab dip had roasted peppers, goat cheese and is served with their house-made buttermilk bread toast points. The macaroni flight is your choice of three macaroni and cheeses served in mini cast iron pans. We opted for the roasted green chile, lobster and the black truffle. The black truffle was incredible, the green chili wasn’t too spicy and had great flavor and while I didn’t get too much lobster from the lobster mac n cheese but it was good. The Austin egg roll stuffed with beer brined smoked brisket was incredibly addicting and unique. The brisket had a wonderful smokey flavor. The almond crusted brie topped with raspberry chambord sauce served with house-made bread somehow reminded me of a monte cristo, so good and decadent. After tasting those amazing appetizers I opted for a light and healthy baby spinach salad. The fresh spinach salad had slices of juicy strawberries, sprinkled with blue cheese, candied walnuts with a wonderful caramelized strawberry balsamic vinaigrette. Jesse ordered the impressive chicken fried steak served with a heaping of mashed potatoes topped with a delightful creamy white gravy. I also had one bite of the shrimp and grits which was a hit at our table. Unfortunately we did not save room for dessert but they looked crazy delicious! How about a hot maple glazed donut with warm bacon topped with candied bacon ice cream sound? They also have a kids menu, hearty steaks, pork chops, cuisine with New Orleans influences, sandwiches and more salad options. Southern’s is a great place to take in a beautiful day on the patio or have an intimate dinner at one of the curtained booths. While I indulged on our first visit I appreciate that they have some gorgeous salads on the menu. I can’t wait to come back and take in a beautiful day while sipping a glass of vino while enjoy some great food on their awesome patio. Quick edit: the creamed corn aka crack is not to be missed!

So, I saw Amy D. check-in here one day and since this is right around the corner from where I live, I thought to myself, I have to try that place! I’d give it 5 stars cuz it was definitely quality from the atmosphere to the food to the service, but there wasn’t too much for a vegetarian to eat(and I really had no clue since the menu is not online yet). In any case, I absolutely love how this place is tucked away in old Pflugerville on Main street and love the patio complete with fireplace and all! It was a very pleasant evening. The servers were very involved and came by a lot. I was pleasantly surprised by the House Cabernet, which was VERY good. The rolls came with a sweet butter(don’t remember what was in it! :() which was just like a dessert… For an appetizer, I had the almond crusted brie cheese and raspberry chambord sauce(very yummy!) and I had the spinach salad with strawberries, pecans and blue cheese. Very good… Just one suggestion… Please add a veg item to the menu that is not a salad and I’ll be back! Love the friendly, classy atmosphere and how close it is to me!
