Couldn’t wait to give this place a try. I fuel up my truck at the truck stop across the street and finally one day I had some extra time and ran over to get me a chopped beef sandwich. After pulling a few large chunks of fat out of my mouth and chewing on some large pieces of not so tender brisket… wow that was all I needed. Glad I got that out of my system and wont be back there

I have never posted a comment before, but I am so sad that I just had to. We loved Johnny T’s in Round Rock and then in the POP. This is not the Johnny T’s that I knew. Meat was dry, Mac n cheese was obviously sitting out for a long time, bbq sauce was different, even the sweet tea was not good. This is a different restaurant. No love was put into this food like it was before. They even took away the cream corn.(Not that it would have been the same anyway). We will not be back. RIP Johnny T’s.

The old Johnny T’s that we used to know and love is long gone! It was my first time at the new location and I was expecting the same great taste, but the second I walked in I could tell it changed. It completely had a corporate monster vibe. The brisket was so dry and flavorless. The bbq sauce was so thick it was basically jelly. The macaroni and cheese tasted like just noodles and butter. The potato salad lacked texture and flavor and the baked beans tasted like they were straight out of a can. I’m so sad to see a local bbq joint we used to love and frequent fall so fast from what it once was. Definitely won’t be back.

Went thru drive in and I got the lean brisket, it was ok not the best but not the worst. All in all the experience was decent. Might not go back though. Maybe I will I don’t know. Just try it if you’re close by.

I ordered dinner last night. Got a barbecue beef sandwich and potato salad. I was asked if I wanted jalapeños, pickles and onions. I said yes of course. I got a sandwich with old beef brisket and brown lettuce. I didn’t get jalapeños is my bag, just pickles and onion. It took a long time and I was super disappointed that the sandwich was subpar. I won’t go back. It’s a shame because the location is close to me, but I don’t want to buy food that is not fast and is not fresh. Potato salad was good. It had a hint of horseradish which was enjoyable.

The Johnny T’s I knew and loved in Round Rock is dead. The brisket is now underwhelming as is the pulled pork. The turkey was nothing to write home about either. All three meats seemed to be on the old side. It is a shame to see a place fall from glory. I will not be returning.

Used to go here all the time at their old(685) location. BBQ was good and their green beans the best most awesomeness in the area. However when they moved to the Grand Avenue location, they stopped making the green beans. So not enough for me to go back.

Worked late, hubby & I tryin new foods where we live. Got home to delicious okra & spiced fries, tender & moist brisket & pork ribs with potato salad, onions, pickles, bread, 2 sauces. You saved the day Johnny T’s. It was all yum.

We were regulars(once a week) at the 685 location until it started to go downhill at the very end. We hoped the new location would be worth the drive over on a fairly regular basis. We went this evening and were the only ones there, plus the one car in the drive-thru. It took 5 minutes to get acknowledged. We ordered and they missed several things and got our daughters order the wrong. The brisket was tough, dry and sliced really poorly. My wife’s brisket sandwich had huge clumps of meat that were practically impossible to eat on the sandwich. I’m giving two stars because the mac-n-cheese, sweet potato fries, and carolina mustard were still good. That was about it. I was a bit surprised that the menu had been scaled back quite a bit and that they had to bring back the tamale potato casserole and green beans… how did those not make the move??? The new owners must be clueless. We’ll scout out other local bbq restaurants to fill our bbq craving. Hell, I’d prefer most bbq chains over this place. We won’t be back. And given how empty it was for prime time on a Saturday night(and other Unilocal reviews), it looks like we aren’t the only ones who made that decision. As my wife put it, «They did us a favor by being bad. We won’t be tempted to drive across town anymore.»

Hugely disappointed. I was once a Jonny T’s BBQ fan when they were located at Hwy 685. So I followed them to the Grand Avenue location. It was downsized. No choices of bbq sauce at the table like it once was. The establishment smells like cigarette smoke, probably from the bar next door. The food quality has taken 3 steps down. I’m will not be a returning customer.

Every time I’ve been to Johnny T’s BBQ I’ve had such a great experience. Whenever I am in the northern part of town and craving some tender bbq I come here. I like to get the Pig Pen sandwich because it’s the best of both worlds. You get the tenderness of Pulled Pork and then the juiciness of the sausage. Add some mac n cheese and you have yourself the perfect meal!

The corporate monster has devoured another :(This is an edit of my original review here: Since then, the new owners have not only moved their location to a smaller spot, but also downsized their menu of some of Johnny’s signature items. Gone are the tamale potato casserole, the spicy green beans, the Texas Club, just to name a few. I stood there at the counter not knowing what else to order. I remembered the okra being ok, but not anymore. It was soggy instead of crispy, full of grease. I ordered a smoked ham and cheddar thinking(hoping) it would have big thick pieces of ham. Nope. It was similar to something sitting under a heat lamp at your local Arbys, but about 25% more expensive. I used to be Johnny T’s biggest fan when he was on 620 in Round Rock back in the day. The corporate machine has made it into just another local restaurant. It isn’t the same.

Bring back the old menu! Giving this a chance but pretty disappointed. And where is the friendly staff from the old location?

Brother in law in town. Wanted to get some good bbq. Off to our favorite joint Johnny T’s on 685 only to see it had closed and they rerouted us to this location. Service was horrible, cashier taking order didn’t know the menu, I ordered the chicken salad and got a chicken salad sandwich. Mediocre bbq at best. Wanted bbq sauce which they only serve in little(1 ounce) to go cups. Menu items we wanted form original restaurant not available. I guess it’s time to find a new bbq place. Kim

Having the urge for the best local BBQ, I decided to hit up Johnny T’s in Pflugerville on FM685 but was disappointed to learn they had moved! I had my heart set on JT! s, so damnit that’s what Ima do! So I reroute and arrive at this new Johnny T’s ToGo off of grand Ave Pkwy. Let’s just cut to the chase, not nearly as good but not terrible. I hit the brisket(lean) and chicken. Both had flavor. Sides were potato salad and fried okra. Both were good as well. The BBQ sauce was original and spicy. Both were just ok. I definitely missed that sweet BBQ sauce that the other spot had amongst other things.

Only because the BBQ sauce taste extremely bad! Although the BBQ is good, you just need to sneak in your own bottle of your favorite sauce!

Great BBQ place. Been there twice. Only been in Austin one week. Tomato based sauce goes great with the pulled pork. Very clean store, and the same friendly attitude &NICE people you find all over the state of Texas! Stop by, give ‘em a try!

I love the other location. This one has a smaller menu and the«eat in» experience isn’t as good. Styrofoam vs plates. Plastic ware vs silverware. Sauces warmed at the flagship. That said, they intend this to be more of a drive-thru/takeout kinda deal. The food is still tasty and I suspect I’ll improve my opinion of this when I get it to go some night.
