We stumbled upon this café after spending the morning at New Salem Historical site. Buffet was ok, chicken was excellent! Relaxed atmosphere. Would eat here again!

Came in for lunch on Wednesday. You can order off menu or eat the buffet for $ 9.95. Place was about half full. I opted for the buffet. Appeared understaffed with only two servers. Fried chicken — very good Stuffed sage pork — too salty to eat Meatloaf — average Macaroni — bland Service — disappointing Mash potatoes — average Salad bar /limited with all store-bought slaw. Potato salad, etc. No rolls & butter was puzzling and disappointing. My two cents — overpriced buffet with average food. I’ll prob go elsewhere next time

This is definitely a classic small town America restaurant. The food is hefty portions. The chicken was tender. The ham was great. The décor is like something out of 30 years ago with the older stuff they have up. Service is attentive. The place is very clean. The only downsides are that it doesn’t have«updated» fare. For instance, if someone is vegetarian, you have the salad bar, no «veggie burger». You wouldn’t expect that from a place like this; it isn’t why you come here.

Broasted chicken, lunch-time buffet, great hamburgers — real home cooking. A local treasure.
