The woman who helps run the shop is the sweetest thing ever and always remembers what I like(apple fritter… theirs are to die for). I can tell she is just genuinely an amazing person. The gentleman is very nice too. They make great doughnuts, haven’t had one yet that didn’t impress me. Super yum!

Two things that go hand in Hand: Running and Doughnuts. Fact. It was for that reason I needed up stopping in Sunrise to grab a quick Carb fix. I was Running from San Francisco to Calistoga with some of my Running Club and on a quick break in the area and craving Doughnuts as I do on long distance Run’s. Unilocal to the rescue! A quick search showed this place jut a few hundred feet from where we were and still 40 minutes from closing. Although not at closing time when I arrived the owners were packing up and getting ready to go home as they had practically ran out of all but about a dozen items, they informed me they had been really busy that day and sold out early. I guess having close to 2,000 hungry runners come through town would have that effect. That being said there was still 2 items that caught my eye(Blueberry Cake and Apple Fritter) so the polite Lady sold them to me plus threw in 2 more for free! A Chocolate Cake and a Chocolate Old Fashioned which one of my fellow Runners appreciated greatly. As for the Doughnuts(Donuts… whatever) they were really good. Fresh, not greasy and with prominent flavors. Even when I waited some 12 hours to eat the Apple Fritter(yes, at 4am in between Run’s) it was still very fresh and moist with lot’s of juicy Apple pieces. A great stopping place I will definitely keep in mind for future trips. Thank you Sunrise!

Sunrise Doughnuts are the best donuts in Petaluma! We live closer to another donut shop. However we are happy to drive across town to sunrise for the kids once a week. Give them a try if you want a real donut.

Just passing through Petaluma and decided we needed donuts. Found this place and they were the best donuts we had ever had. The apple fritter was absolutely delicious as was the other donuts. Wish we lived near it so I could gain 300 pounds.

Really yummy and fresh donuts. Loved the blueberry lemon cake donut and crumb cake donut. They are more soft and fluffy, not dense.

These donuts are the best in town, hours later they still taste good(proof that they are cooked in fresh oil). The owners are so sweet and friendly, you can’t help but leave there smiling. Both times I have gone in, they even threw in a few donut holes for free. A donut at sunrise? I think so!

Vanilla. What makes Sunrise unique is adding vanilla to the standard glaze, and I believe that of all the places I’ve been to(see the linked list,) this is a first. I gave Sunrise the standard five-point test: plain cake, glazed yeast, plain buttermilk, chocolate old fashioned. The old fashioned had a good crust with just a little crisp and not over greasy. The dough was down-the-middle sweet, the glaze pushed it a little to the sweet side, but overall it balanced out well. The chocolate frosting was down-the-middle smooth(not too gritty, not silky smooth.) The frosting flavor was ok, about what one would expect. The glaze, with it’s vanilla, was phenomenal. Can’t say enough good things about, plus, it wasn’t applied to heavily, so it went down good. The yeast donut was okay. Moderately sweet, the vanilla glaze is what makes you take more than one bite. The cake donut was good The crust was lacking and a bit on the soft side, but it was soft and moist inside while being evenly baked(fried) all the way through. This was also one of those rare places that had a hard crueler(versus a soft and sugary mouth mess that predominates the donut landscape.) The buttermilk was average. Fair crust, didn’t impress me with any gusto, but would hold up okay. Overall, Sunrise has it’s bright spots that keeps it on the radar, but in other areas, I would go elsewhere. Friendly staff experience for me, too! Oh– overall sugar load(will you get a stomach ache/headache from eating more than two) is middle of the road.

Ok I know before I posted about the best donuts on the planet BUT that’s because I hadn’t been here. They are tied for first if not the best. Super polite owners(which beats out the other place by a lot) and donuts that taste like amazing. That’s what amazing tastes like. Like sunrise donuts. Cheap too.

Pretty good doughnuts. Doughnuts remind me of when i was young and my dad would take me to the doughnut shop for breakfast sometimes, so i guess u can say doughnuts hold a certain memory for me, so its important that the doughnut place is good… sunrise hits the mark pretty well, if u get there early enough the doughnuts and glaze are still warm. I do have to say theyre one of the more pricy foughnut places ive been to, used to paying $ 1 for a dozen doughnut holes, this place is $ 2.25. I do have to say There coffee is not good. Also i wish they had lottery scratchers, a typical morning with my dad was a dozen doughnut holes(always thrilled if there were a few extra) a small bottle of apple juice, and hed buy scratchers and let me scratch them, so it would be nice if they had them.

WORSTDONUTSEVER! Went to sunrise donuts about weeks ago in the morning. The lady was very friendly and bubbly, so my girlfriend, her mother and I ordered some donuts and coffee for takeout. The first bite tasted very buttery and sugary in a bad kinda way but it tasted decent so I continued to eat them. By the time we were finished we were SICK for about 5 hours with a gross taste of butter and sugar stained in our taste buds. That was officially the worst donut I have ever tasted!

I sent my teenager in to make a purchase at the nearby grocery. He went to pay but his debit card failed. I guess you have to have money in the account for it to work? He was upset as was his little sister. The nice lady there said little sister could wait there while my son fetched me. Actually my money.. When they came back to me worth a box of donuts they told me the woman have little sister three free ones«for being such a sweetie». And they were delicious.

I was getting donuts for my office, and a had a very pleasant experience on this Monday morning. The woman who helped me was delightful and really made my day. I will definitely be going back for some more treats. The donuts were exceptional as well. A great variety to choose from. Two thumbs way up!

You don’t go to a donut shop thinking the croissants are what will BRINGYOUTOYOURKNEES, but then you think«oh why not? Something not sweet today» and you get one. And you go home when your pink breakfast box and settle in. Then you bite. And chew. And have a revelation. My 5 year old sometimes goes for the croissants over the donuts(which are also fantastic and they have great selection). The staff is lovely and very attentive. This is the donut shop for you. Not sure? Well go! Because I’m right. Trust me.

I have never met a donut I didn’t like… until I met a Sunrise donut. It made me think that maybe the owners do not like or eat donuts themselves. Somehow managed to be tasteless, dry and greasy all at the same time.

Saturday morning is donut day for my 4 year old son and myself. When we moved to Petaluma this past year we had to find a new spot. They introduce my son to donut holes. He’d never had them before. Each week we’d ask for a dozen, he’d help them count them out and always gave him a few extra, which he got such a thrill from. It is a simplest of things that folks do that leave the lasting memories for us as consumers and children. I’ve been away for a while, but look forward to more Saturday mornings at Sunrise Donuts
