My husband and I ate supper here(before the fire) and we had a great time. We sat at the bar and really enjoyed watching the lady mix drinks and talking to everyone. The lady bartender(i can’t remember her name) made me this awesome drink called«Jamaican Me Crazy» which was her own mixture and tasted great. I had told her that I didn’t like beer and didn’t like the taste of liquor of any kind, so she mixed me up this wonderful fruity drink. That night we had the fried mushrooms and fish, both were super good. Sitting at the bar, we got excellent personal service. Now that the restaurant is all fixed up from the fire, we will be going back on our next date night!

Fries were inedible, in serious need of a grease change. Kitchen needs to serve salad dressing with salad. Don’t make customers wait 10 minutes for dressing after salad is served. Tarter sauce should be served with fish, as it took 10 minutes to receive as well. Hopefully with the new menu coming in January, they’ll add more items. Menu is small and disappointing when served. Burger was the only food that was finished.

Have had dinner here several times now and continue to be disappointed. Stuffed cheese appetizer tasted like cardboard and was definitely a pre-made and frozen. Asparagus was burnt and the drunken chicken was drenched in a white sauce that resembled Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup. I feel they are more interested in being a bar than being a restaurant. If they would put as much effort into their food as they do their drink list they would be more successful.

I’m a traveler and regularly eat at restaurants all over the U.S. So my 50+ years of dining experiences have developed a somewhat sophisticated palate and decent culinary/dining sensibility. I like bold, but thoughtful flavors as well as come-in-from-the-cold comfort food. I sound kinda snooty, huh? Whatever. With all that said, I’d like to sincerely endorse the cozy atmosphere and honestly tasty food of Smitty’s. I used to live in Northern Indiana and know that there a plenty of places that plate great meals, but most people spend there hard earned cash at fast food joints around there because that’s what’s available and affordable. Listen up Hoosiers and who ever travels through Peru! Do yourself a favor; as well as for all our brethren looking for a meal that causes you to think, or maybe even say out loud, «somebody cares about me…» and warm a chair at Smitty’s. The menu is solid and of the three items that I enjoyed were straight forward, well prepared, and proportioned. The spinach salad was as fresh and tasty with bacon/sweet dressing on the side. I could have used a few more red onions, but that’s not a detractor and I’m sure Lexi, my bartender would have gladly run to the kitchen for me if I asked. The corned beef was lean, and possessed a briny tang that good corned beef should have. The cabbage was savory and all of it was braised just enough to cut with a fork. I also had the sweet Buffalo wings, with a satisfyingly sweet/hot flavor and a crispy-skin that, to me, is much better than the all-too-common rubbery-skin wings elsewhere. I don’t travel to Indiana very often but when I do I’ll drive an hour or two to come back for more honest food, a hoppy IPA, and a few smart-ass remarks from Lexi.

So I’m from Denver but haven’t lived here since high school. I come to visit family and cringe when they want to go out to eat in Peru. No more. There is no doubt that this is the freshest, most delicious meal I have ever had in Peru. Congrats, and please keep up the high standards!!!

Great place to hang out and have a nice meal. We were lucky enough to sit by the the window seat and watch everyone going by. Will be back again!

Smitty’s is a great pub! The building itself has been a pub for over 100 years but has just recently been saved from falling to ruins and has been renewed to look old! The atmosphere is warm and inviting. It’s easy to forget you are in Peru when you’re here. They recently won«Best Irish Fare» in Heartland magazine’s Restaurant Guide for North Central Indiana and for a good reason! The corned beef is tender and moist, the fish n chips are the absolute best I’ve ever had and the bangers n mash are cooked in Guinness! I love that you can take the entire family upstairs for dinner one night and the next night enjoy the 21+ pub downstairs! It really is the best of both worlds! It is absolutely worth a trip!

Cool place. Its has your typical bar food. But if your there to drink, this is the place. Drafts beers of your more untipical styles. Bud, Miller, Coors are there but there are other choices. Always a nice IPA on draft. They have a five star whiskey/bourbone menu. If you sit at the bar service is great. If you sit at a table, it will depend on whos working for the promtness of the service. Overall a great place for this part of the state.

I’ve been here for lunch 3 times and was always pleased. If I have anything negative to say… it’s that the prices are a bit high for Peru. The staff is amazing!

We went here for lunch Friday. Surprised to find good food in Peru. My husband had the Bangers and Mash and was pleased with his choice. I had the daily specal, sliced turkey, spinach and fresh mozzarella on a soft roll. My sandwich came with really tasty sweet potatoe fries. Good food with good prices. Nice staff; know their food and make helpful suggestions. Will be back!

So many reasons for the 5 Star review — the ambiance reminds me of an authentic Irish pub, there’s Guinness on tap, the food is delicious — especially the tenderloin, the service is fast and friendly — the owners are local businesswomen with personalities to match their business sense — and it’s a wonderful place to unwind with a cold pint while eating on some great appetizers or having a meal with a significant other(my darling husband Jim). Have been there twice already(both times with lady friends) and felt very comfortable in the setting(again, the authentic Irish pub atmosphere). This place is HERETOSTAY!!!
