Food is okay, but overpriced. 2 cocktails, an appetizer, 2 meals and 1 dessert cost $ 140 with tip. We can get a far better meal for much less at trendier places outside of Peoria. We were told when we moved here that Salt was the best. We beg to differ.

Finally made it to Salt for a lunch event. Wow the back room was packed at 11:30am! Thankfully our waiter was fabulous about our request to sit in the less congested front room so we could actually hear one another. And, honestly, the natural light in the bar/front room is wonderful for lunch. The service was fabulous: quick responses and non-hovering. I loved the sweet breads they offered before our meal arrived. I’m at a 4 out of 5 because the Thai wrap had wonderful presentation… but you know when you get to the final bite of something in a wrap and FINALLY taste the sauce/dressing? That’s how it was with this wrap. Bummer because the last bite was incredible on both halves of the wrap… the rest… a bit of a let down. The tots(yes, tots) were unparalleled. 5 stars on the tots.(Yes, I’m going to eat those tots). I’m going to try Salt again and order something different(but oooh, that last bite of the wrap was so good!).

Our waitress was rude and unfriendly on Mother’s Day. We asked if our 5 year old could just get a couple of pancakes(note: pancakes ARE on the menu. We just wanted a couple of them, a kid-size portion of them without all the sides). She acted like this was outrageous and unreasonable, and told us they were expecting 300 people at brunch that day. And therefore, the kitchen couldn’t make any ‘special requests.‘ I understand Mother’s Day is a busy day. But as a mom, i wanted to feel special yesterday. I didn’t want to be told I was merely«one out of 300.» Moreover, I didn’t need to be explicitly told that the restaurant was willing to do precisely zero to make my day special.(here’s a hint, honey: It’s possible to turn down a customer’s request and STILL make them feel special.) Plus she got the order messed up and the whole thing was a mess. I won’t be back.

My husband and me were in Peoria visiting family for the week and decided to try Salt per everyone’s recommendations. Excellent bacon wrapped dates, delicious peachtini and sangria, cheesecake, and the shrimp and grits was one of a kind! My husband’s only complaint would be that the bison stroganoff had too much pasta and not enough bison. In addition, the bison was a little overcooked in some pieces. Otherwise, excellent service comparable to what we’re used to. Jonathan really made us feel welcomed. Lastly, a very cozy place. Definitely a rare find!

The osso bucco(SP?) Lamb, was terrible. It tasted like your first attempt at a pot roast. Tender, but zero flavor, and it was cold. Must have accidentally turned off the crock pot.

Reimagined classics and original dishes given the«Salt» gourmet treatment. Each dish is thoughtfully executed for maximum flavor and aesthetics. Come with an open mind and leave with a satisfied and full belly. Whether it’s brunch, lunch or dinner the food is what will keep you coming back.

I’ve been here several times for brunch and once for dinner. All very good experiences… very consistent. They have a very intimate and stylish dining room. The food is excellent and the service is top notch.

I had the golden kale and beat salad. It was delicious-both filling and light. The service was great and they have a wonderful drink and wine menu. The vibe inside is the perfect mix of trendy and chill.

Had a very nice time at Salt with my fiancé tonight. He had the Poutine, it was huge! Could feed a small family :-) I had the salt crusted beef. Both were delicious! The pretzel bread was amazing! The salad and veggies with the meals were just ok. Great atmosphere, super nice server, we definitely plan to go back.

I absolutely love Salt. There are so many things on the menu that sound«common» but Salt puts their own spin on the dish. For example, the Mac & Cheese sounds ordinary, but it’s quite the contrary. Smooth, creamy, perfectly cheesy with some bacon bits. Sitting outside is wonderful when it’s a perfect day outside. When it’s rainy, humid, snowing, etc, the inside is fine too. I went there for dinner one time and they didn’t allow us in the back room because we didn’t have reservations. That is something to consider when coming at dinner time. The lunch menu is around $ 10 each whereas the dinner menu ranges from $ 20– $ 35. I personally like the lunch menu better because it is more affordable and there are more fun options. For lunch, I had the fish tacos. The tortillas were on the dry side and the fish tacos were just okay. My friends had the poutine, the mac & cheese, and the fried chicken sandwich. I wish I had gotten anything but the fish tacos. The second time I went, I had the poutine. It is definitely a dish to share because there are so many fries. The beef is tender. I think there could have bene more cheese on it to give it some more flavor. I will be going to Salt many more times!

Opened with wine. Shiraz. It tasted like wine I’d had in my glass overnight and drank the next morning. My guess is it had been open far too long. The noise level is rather high given it is a small room. I ordered an appetizer of the goat cheese. I didn’t like it. My gf did because it tasted like«crab Rangoon». It tasted like wonton and cranberry. It wasn’t bad tasting but it wasn’t better than a fruity cheese ball from the grocery store. The roasted red pepper«soup» was delicious but it felt more like a sauce that should be tossed on some penne pasta with some seared sausage. We ordered the poutine and ahi tuna for main courses. My poutine was good. A bit over-salted. Probably the second best variation I’ve had but a distant second(brewery vivant reigns supreme). My gf liked the tuna but I we both found it to be over-salted. I LOVE salt but it was beyond even what I like. I will say the dinner portion. Poutine was massive, which for 20 bucks, it should be. Overall I will say it’s 3 stars. The food is decent but for the money it drops it down a bit. The over-salting was also pretty intense. The beer prices are very good for a restaurant though.

So very disappointed. I have yet to write a poor review but today will mark the first. Not because of the food(or should I say lack thereof) To celebrate my daughters accomplishments we told her we wanted to take her out and she could chose the place. She chose Salt. I called to see if they took reservations and find out when they closed. They said kitchen closes at 9 and bar at 10 pm. I said if we get there 8:30 — 8:45 would that be a problem because we wanted to take her shopping first and the gentleman said«Not a problem at all — in fact as long as order is in by 9 pm it’s fine». Only that’s not the case. In fact at 8:35 pm we are told«let me ask the chef, because he is now all set up for tomorrow»… Comes back with«sorry he doesn’t want to get the dinner things back out» This is in poor taste and to think I use them for business meetings often… Or I should say I did.

After reading all the reviews and being highly recommended, I’ve come to a conclusion… new menu! Yes, they were trying out the new menu. We ordered to start with the«Goat cheese dip», nothing to die for my son could have put it together and paired it with anything else but tortilla chips. Wine was delightful, of course it was one of our favorites«Jordan». My husband ordered the«Ale Braised short Ribs», it was very good. My son, the steak lover, ordered the«Pork Ribeye». He was pleasantly surprise how juicy, tasty and tender it was. Me on the other hand, I ordered«Honey crusted Mahi Mahi». I should have known better than to order Mahi in the Midwest. The fish portion was small, dry and tasteless. Actually, you can buy better fish in the frozen section of a supermarket out of a box, sad! The sweet chili sauce under the fish was so spicy, my tastes bud was non existent after the first bite. I do have to say, they had great service. The manager/host did say they were trying out new menus and to let them know any comments or thoughts. I do believe if there is an item you are not happy with, please let management know so they can improve any restaurant you go to. They offered us a «Turtle cheesecake» on the house to cool down my burning tongue. We also ordered the the«Grilled doughnuts S’more», I can see is a top seller, just didn’t care for the doughnut as the ending to the meal. Would we visit«Salt» again? Maybe when the change the menu again!

I have eaten at this establishment many times. However, this week I was with colleagues for a research kickoff celebration. There isn’t enough room to compliment this restaurant. First, we had the entire bar to ourselves, and the staff was amazing and on top of everything. The appetizers: fried eggs, calamari, raspberry goat cheese dip, cheese and bacon… I can keep going because there were so many options. The wine was also fantastic. I stuck with the Cabernet for the evening and was a fan of the Rodney Strong Cab they offered. Everyone in our group was comfortable and happy with the establishment and service. I will continue to frequent this great place!

Four of us ordered the short rib, catfish, poutine, and chicken. Everyone was a fan of their dish, but the poutine received the most praise. We all agreed the dish was pretty out of control with the short rib, fries, cheese, and egg all together in this bowl full of gravy and love. Final verdict: FOODIEAPPROVED!

I have been to Salt twice now and it has been incredible each time. Both times I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad. I am usually not a salad person at restaurants but this salad will not disappoint! Loaded with chicken, avacado, hard boiled eggs, and bacon, it is sure to fill you up without bogging you down! They have an excellent wine list. Pairs with whatever you would order without breaking your wallet. I took my cousin here for her birthday this fall and they gave us a complimentary Apple Pie Cheesecake. Hands down, it is one of the best desserts I had ever eaten! The atmosphere is hip, but classy. The mood changes from lunch to dinner as well, which I think is a very nice touch. I recommend this restaurant to everyone. In those«where should we eat tonight» conversations, this one usually wins.
