Fort McRee, one of three historic fortes constructed to guard Pensacola Bay Pass. The U.S. Naval yards were located on Pensacola Bay so the navy felt a blockade was needed to protect them. Fort McRee was completed 1839. Now, time has not been kind to the forte. All that is left is the foundation and a small amount of bricks. The notable feature now is the secluded beautiful beaches. To get to the forte, you either must hike in from Perdido or take a boat. So if you want a beautiful private beach, this is the place!
